    Well that was the fanciest room tour I have ever seen with color and graphics and then even arrows. I am voting this video for a VC award next year for best use of technology in giving a room tour. I’m pretty sure that is a category. Very enjoyable Jon. Glad I’m not an audiophile and I’m also totally clueless and could care less. Amen

    Fun video and you touch on a lot of challenges many record collectors face. I have decided to do more listening rather than buying records. As you say, there's a lot of records that just sit on the shelf and are never listened to!

      More listening and less buying is a wonderful thing. I have been doing that a bit myself. I’ve still purchased new records this year, but nowhere close to the same rate as last year. Thanks for hanging out. Always good to hear from you. Cheers! ✌🏻

    DJ Burns 🔥 is the star 🌟 of this tournament & a joy to watch. Duke V Houston was like 80's basketball 🏀. It will be must see TV 📺 tonight & tomorrow , South Carolina will likely take out Caitlin & Iowa. Swans & Slowdive later this month but Masters ⛳️ is first. " Hello Friends "

    • @TheDigitalGramophone
      @TheDigitalGramophone  7 месяцев назад +1

      Burns really did end up the star of the tournament. It’s kind of wild. UConn had the perfect defensive strategy. South Carolina was too much for Iowa on the boards. State allowed too many threes to Purdue. Bravos having a time with the other New York team this week. 👎🏻

    Loved this one. I’m with you about curating a collection. Let’s face it, streaming is always there if you get an itch and need to hear something you may only play once every 10 years. Loved seeing how you organize things. Congrats on upgrading your system. I hear you about not wanting to be an audiophile. I don’t consider myself one either, although we recently upgraded our turntable and now I start to see the speakers as being inferior. Ugh. It’s a no-win situation to always chase something.

    • @TheDigitalGramophone
      @TheDigitalGramophone  6 месяцев назад

      I wish I could organize the purging method into a formula. A list of rules or guidelines. The truth is there are dozens of factors and they are not equally applied. Streaming always enters the thought process. I’ve purged so many of those “classic albums that everybody should have” because I can stream them anytime.
      I watched a long-time VCer a few years back talk about upgrading an system. He said the amplifier or turntable is never the place to start. It should always be the speakers (unless the amp you have doesn’t have enough power). I always took that to heart even if I’m not sure it’s true. 🤣 He was just very convincing in his position. Could not agree more that it’s always a no-win situation to chase something. Hope all is well out there, Todd. Cheers ✌🏻

    Pack Power!!!!!! My favorite team was the 73-74 era with that first national championship. My Dad took us to see games when Thompson and Towe were freshman and couldn't play on the varsity and those Freshman games were so good. But the next year we couldn't go anymore because it was always a sellout. As for your collection, very impressive organization, but those visual aids were just you showing off!!!!! Or maybe it's just the boomer in me that makes me jealous of your skills. I completely understand your gear perspective. I like used gear because I can get better equipment cheaper, and have the time to work on it when I can and when I can't I have the retiree benefit of flexible time to get it to the repair guy. If you were to start a tag now that would be a mind blower so yes, please do one, hopefully a quirky, random one. Take care my friend, and go State!

    • @TheDigitalGramophone
      @TheDigitalGramophone  6 месяцев назад

      My dad talks about that ‘74 team all the time. I found as much footage on them as I can. I actually think the UCLA Final Four game in on YT in its entirety.
      As far as the gear goes, you’re right about having time to dedicate to it. I would love to have an all-vintage setup, but I’d have to pay somebody 10x its actual worth to fix it up for me. 😂
      It was a helluva run by the Pack. I’m gonna miss watching DJ Burns. Hopefully they can build off this run, and get back to being a conference contender again. College basketball as a whole is better when all three triangle teams are relevant. Cheers ✌🏻

    • @TheDigitalGramophone
      @TheDigitalGramophone  6 месяцев назад +1

      There are still a lot of labels out there that keep prices reasonable and under $30. Some indie labels still capping records at $20. But, yeah, way more 2LPs popping up these days for $40. It’s a problem. The size of the collection is a “me issue.” Lol. I don’t judge people that have 4,000 or 6,000 records. Now… 15,000? Those people have issues. You don’t have 15,000 records do you? 🤣 Thanks for hanging out, Alexander. Hope all is well your way. Cheers ✌🏻

    Yeah, when it comes to gear an old Vinyl sage in the nineties told me ‘when you get to a sound you are happy with..stop’ that was pretty good advise. I’ve probably bought 5k albums over fourty years and never spent more than £150.00 on a set of new speakers & £200 on an amp...btw I’m down to about 1500 records now...still to many. I think 750-1000 is the maximum Really. Great video btw. 😊

    Echo this Jon, as I have banged-on about this subject too for the past year or so. I'm not far from my first goal of getting below 2,000 records. After that maybe I'll go for 1,500...2024 so far has been 25 records in and 80 records out. I'm quite ashamed about the 25 records in.
    I'm not a gear-head thankfully. I also don't have a clue about basketball. However the cricket season has just started over here and that is exciting. Also my football (soccer) team is in a final at Wembley tomorrow. Look forward to a mid-year tag...Hope you and yours are well, cheers Dale

      @TheDigitalGramophone  7 месяцев назад

      Hey Dale! You know those records that sit on our shelves and we haven’t gotten rid of them because we haven’t “spent enough time with them?” I’ve found that once I spin them, they immediately go into the purge pile. There was a reason I wasn’t spinning it. 😎
      There’s a guy that started a RUclips channel where he would breakdown baseball - at-bats, fielding plays, pitching performances, controversial calls, etc. Anyway, it’s huge now, and along the way he started doing cricket breakdowns, too. I actually learn something watching his videos. 🤣

    Nice upgrades. I agree, you can keep it simple and things will improve dramatically. You basically upgraded the two most important parts of the chain, the entry and the exit point. Klipsch is always good indeed. As for purging, I don't disagree and have always done it (selling on discogs) but lately maybe less. I'm one of those 4000 plus records types you mention here, but I do listen to records all the time when possible (and I don't have kids which does help in terms of free time) but I absolutely agree that there are records which I rarely play.

They also did that death cab one that they royally f’d up and i wish I’d gotten than one too. What you lack in gear knowledge you make up for in high-tech video transitions and graphics. The purge is strong with you it seems. It is something I can admire though I don't think I want to chop mine very much, or any more than I have. I'm at 5500 or so. My saving grace for having a "library" is doing a weekly radio show so I definitely pull a lot of older records on a weekly basis. But yeah, it does strike me there are many I will never hear in full again. Long Winters...a band I checked out briefly for a time but never got too deeply invested in them. I know I had that CD but I think I ended up keeping the New Pornos cds in place of this, mining similar territory. I like that samples way better than I remembered though.

    • @TheDigitalGramophone
      @TheDigitalGramophone  6 месяцев назад

      Having the radio show definitely validates a larger collection, Dom. Again, I’m not judging. I’ve just realized that for me, it would be a stressful thing and take all the fun out of it.

    Now, not knowing a thing about basketball, and being utterly confused by US college sport, I don't know if their are many Wolf Packs in the sport? I ponder this as I have a track on a German compilation of rare groovy country, funky R&B and odd garage 7"s called Funky Country, which has the track Fast David and The Wolf Pack by The Embers.
    It's an instrumental tune from the B-side of the single, but the A-side, featured on another comp from the label, called Fast David and The Wolf Pack pt 1, has vocals about this basketball player. The lyrics don't really give any clues as to who this is and where, but it does mention teams coming from the city to try to teach "us country boys" a lesson. North Carolina?
    Check out the tune, I'm sure it's on RUclips.
    Cheers - Hedley

      Don’t, worry… now that college athletes are getting paid (deservedly so), we are all a little confused by college sport here in The States as well.
      Yes! I’m here all day for these wonderful discoveries, Hedley. I will seek this out immediately. The greatest player in NC State Wolfpack history was named David. BUT… it depends on when this song was written. I wonder if Elliott is aware of this tune?

    • @TheDigitalGramophone
      @TheDigitalGramophone  6 месяцев назад

      Wait! I’m still researching that song, but I know The Embers! They wrote and performed a song called “I Love Beach Music.” Both Elliott and I have mentioned Beach Music. I even talked about it when we were hanging out in the VC Pub.

    • @TheDigitalGramophone
      @TheDigitalGramophone  6 месяцев назад

      Okay… found that single on Discogs. Haven’t listened to the vocal version yet. It was released on Pack Records (the only release). Yep. Raleigh, North Carolina - which is the state capital and home to North Carolina State University. The Wolfpack. Song was released in 1974. NC State won the National Championship in basketball that year. So I think it’s safe to say “David” is referring to David Thompson who is widely considered to be one of, if not THE best college basketball players ever. He was otherworldly for his era.
      How do you come across these songs, Hedley? When I’m done with you (and with Elliott’s help) you’ll be the English Ambassador to North Carolina. 😄
