Little do you youngsters know and understand, is that Steve Gadd played on a lot of TV show theme songs and a lot of commercials in the 70's, 80's, & 90's!! He is the innovator and creator of Disco, Pop, Jazz, & Pop Latin Music! A lot of Gospel drummers and R & B drummers mimic his style of playing and put their own spin on it! And let us not be so rude and vulgar to our fellow community of drummers! I'm sure each one of you are all great musicians, just with different approaches!
Gadd is always so musical and understated and probably the most influential drummer with just regard to his discography. You were influenced whether you knew it or not.
You know you sound exactly like the people your making fun of. On another note I loved this solo. I wish there was music to play drums like this too that didn't always have cheezy synth sounds xD
"all western music comes from Africa and Greece" A shining example of a made-up fact. So in your opinion no western music has it's origins in Asia, the Americas or northern Europe.
Wow wow wow, I'm a a metal drummer, and I love so much Gadd, Weckl, Colaiuta and so on... Don't say that blast beat players are unmusical and not open-minded /watch?v=nLe-qvsy71Q&feature=c4-overview&list=UU5_QlLa23CZ-MWSWe8GNtUw
Simply by your comment 'can do things most drummers only dream about', you concur that most GC players overplay. 'Do things?' It is supposed to be about the music. Showmanship? or how about showing off? Taste and musicality stand the test of time. Bill Stewart or Gadd can speak more with two bars, than most gospel guys do with a whole tune. That's just how it is.
first of all everyone there is no such thing as what is wrong or right musically because every culture in the world has a different meaning and purpose of what music is
Ciao
Just to follow up - You probably think Tony William's didn't know how to tune his drums, eh? It's ok. I was young and closed minded once, too. You'll grow out of it. Hopefully.
WOAAAHHH wait wait wait....lets make this clear...."Gospel chops" is a brand NOT a style of playing. ALL of the great players come from different backgrounds and mostly respect the same thing...which is music. Prime example...Calvin Rodgers is a "Gospel drummer" who doesn't over play and grew up on Vinnie Colaiuta,Tony Williams and STEVE GADD and is open to everything. or George Koallias or Derrek Roddy who studied more than just metal As long as you know music is relative you'll prosper.
I like blast beats, but I'm still a big fan of Steve God...Usually those who dislike Gadd are ignorant fan of travis, not serious metalheads. Don't become close-minded just because a few teenagers piss you off, metal is not a style for ignorant people like you may think.
HaHa. Ballard couldn't even shine Gadd's drums. If you don't like him or anyone else then shut the hell up. We really don't care for your opinion because you probably can't play anyway. Not everyone likes the style of all drummers. That's why there are lots of them. Love 'em or leave 'em !!
One of the best things I ever did was attend the Collective. Love that place.
he's an icon for the music hystory, simply the best one!!!!
The master at work. Wonderful, just wonderful. Gret lesson on “pocket”.
I love how Steve Bounces up and down on the drum throne to get that extra dynamic...
How can anybody vote thie wonderful video negative?
Larry & Steve - two masters.

1 pedal , 2 pedals, 3 pedals...skeet skeet skeet, does it matter when you sound this good.
I think it's all personal preference. Although Steve Gadd is the Master with years of experience and that in itself speaks volume!!!

On another note I loved this solo. I wish there was music to play drums like this too that didn't always have cheezy synth sounds xD
MUITO BOM !
if you look back at Steely Dan's Aja recording Steve Gadd did that in one take.....
Another made up fact.
Shark Eyone 2 hours was the length of the session.
and for your information all western music comes from Africa and Greece
"all western music comes from Africa and Greece" A shining example of a made-up fact.
So in your opinion no western music has it's origins in Asia, the Americas or northern Europe.
western music was played in Greece before it went to northern Europe
Reminds me of George Clooney 😃
Dare I say... simply the BEST! No ejaculation - but close.
That cowbell grooves takes me all the way, all the time.
very tasty...even the solo grooves :)
Wow wow wow, I'm a a metal drummer, and I love so much Gadd, Weckl, Colaiuta and so on...

Larry Goldings on org.
What hat sizes is he using? uses? Just curious.. Could they be 15"s ?
A sweet tasting ratamacue with chocholate double dribble paradiddle smothered with thick, rich caramel zildjan bronze.
I think JoJo Mayer has so much a better a foot technique, but he (Gadd) is still truly awesome.
@xvizionsx Steve Gadd...
haha he hesitates at 1:28 jsut before he hits his crash, still fantastic though.
I made a youtube account simply to agree with this comment.
what kind of music would u call this?
first of all everyone there is no such thing as what is wrong or right musically because every culture in the world has a different meaning and purpose of what music is
that's how you use a double bass pedal!
Steve is far better until 1:30 where he shows only (wich is insane technicaly but less interesting)
Gadd uses 2 pedals, Jojo 1 pedal, so Gadd is out of the chalenge! ;P
Oh oui, il est bon tel le bon vin. Plus il vieillit plus il devient bon.

Ciao
in some cultures it isn't about time and groove
@mrsmithcolin175 why?
....or Steve Godd as I like to call him....
Guess you would know huh?
Comments made human.....hahahahah!
There is a reason why gospel chops drummers are all under 30 yo.... When the mind matures, all that juvenile chops shit becomes passe and trivial.
Just to follow up - You probably think Tony William's didn't know how to tune his drums, eh? It's ok. I was young and closed minded once, too. You'll grow out of it. Hopefully.
Manis
vinnie calouita and dave weckl any day..
Steve Gadd, die Waffe !!

WOAAAHHH wait wait wait....lets make this clear...."Gospel chops" is a brand NOT a style of playing.

Now this is a real drummer!! Not like these wannabe metalcore idiots today..... haha

i may be ignorant but not when it comes to great music making. This drum playing is stiff and only collection of boring phrases.
Yes I agree, however their solos are fucking boring. It's like shred guitarists and just as unmusical and wanky.
one of he most boring drummers
