I keep hearing in the comments that the watery sound he's making is his "friends and family" sound and that makes me so happy. The man walks up to him and goes "How ya doing?" and the bird pretty much responds with "MERLYN! MY MAN!"

What's really interesting is that call he's making is a call reserved for "family". So this raven essentially sees you as one of his own.

Hahaha brilliant i hit the deck reading that, be great if he turned the camera around at the end and there was a little welsh fella in a giant raven costume.
On a serious note great video Merlyn that bird is a crafty fella there's a brain ticking round in his head he knows what's going on fascinating stuff. Honestly you often think animals are just animals but we are animals no different than them. Like humans i believe some animals are smarter than others and he is a clever fella. Lovely eyes you can see right into his soul through those eyes you can see the emotions and feelings of that bird.

Magpies in Australia can recognize faces also.
Around August to late September each year they nest and came become rather savage. However I used to feed a clan that was around 20 birds.
Our local park had a huge problem with people being swooped - except me.
I could see people being swooped all around the park one day then I entered and they stopped swooping the others but came to me and waited for food.
I had never fed them at the park and only ever at my front yard. I also had no food with me at the park as I was passing through to the shops on the other side. They followed me all the way to the shops.
Crows, raven, magpies I believe are all from the same family group and ALL show astounding problem solving capabilities.
These seemingly tame behaviors from young magpies can change for the worst once a young bird reaches sexual maturity - they will take your eye out if you aren't careful. Adults can be quite tame once they learn to trust. I think the issue I experienced with a young and tame bird becoming aggressive after being a pet at my dads may have been linked to hormones - like most randy little teenagers they tend to lose control.

jesuriah faeces is the name given to human excrement. Faces is plural for face as far as I learnt in English.

+FilthyCasualKai "i am almost positive he's imitating the sound of trickling water."
Doubtful. Crows have two forms of vocalizations. The "Caw! Caw!" that is reserved for strangers and the crow community at large and those watery-ish noises you hear in this video. This latter form of vocalization is reserved for family and close, personal friends.
While it's not remarkable in the sense of the crow mimicing water (it isn't), it is remarkable in the sense that it demonstrates the crow really likes the man filming the video, since he's treating him like family.

The raven wants water. Listen to this 'stream or brook' sound effect ( */watch?v=TEwSi0alHBA* ) and you'll hear the striking resemblance. The man gives him food, but no water so the bird tries to communicate 'water' by imitating water. He tries over and over but the man just jabbers at him. At about the 2:30 mark, the crow gets frustrated and starts growling (this is common when mother birds try to correct their chicks). Frustrated that this doesn't work, the crow tries to establish communication by imitating the man's sound, but since the man is just laughing, the crow starts doing the same. "haw haw haw hu-hu-hu-huh". Then the man leaves. The bird is like "WTF bruh? I thought we were cool?" I'm fairly sure that since it's winter, all of the normal places to get water are frozen solid, so he's very thirsty. I'm sure he's thankful that you leave food out, since that is also probably scarce in the winter, but I think he wanted water. He realized that you are helpful, so he probably figured you could help him get water. Smarter than you think, these ravens...

oggyreidmore Oh I get it! This raven is saying something the equivalent of "splash splash" in English as a way of saying "I'm thirsty!"/"Give me water!"
It seems like ravens really do have their own language.

Sgt Slim It's a penguin, right? Or maybe an ostrich? Either way the point remains valid. Tell you what: I'll go ahead and make a spelling merstake so you can nit pick that too.

Natives in USA believe that the Raven is a relative inside the Raven's body. They talk to the birds through mental conversation and seek guidance for troubled times .

What a funny fellow! My husband is fascinated by corvids, and tried chatting up a raven that we met at a castle in Ireland. The raven hung out for a while, then moved on, probably muttering something about the dang tourists. We had fun watching the crows raid our garden in Maryland, but we don't have ravens or crows in south central Texas, and we miss them.

I think the comment from oggyreidmore is spot on, really nice of you to feed him and so good to see and listen to this lovely bird,
I hope you put water for him and the rest of the birds, they need both in the winter... he's amazing he really is making water like sounds.

Perhaps the raven didn't want water, but consider this:
1- It was all snowy, which means it was pretty cold. Perhaps the raven couldn't find water in liquid state (because all puddles were frozen) or the water in newly formed puddles was just too cold to drink.
2- The raven had a reason to be there. That man probably gives him food, perhaps even water.
If the raven has noticed that the water from that man isn't as cold, perhaps that's the reason why it was there.
      Who knows?
3- Being able to find food and drink on their own doesn't mean that animals won't try to get it from people if they have a choice. For instance, if they know of some "neighbor" that usually gives them stuff and never hurts them, that's a whole lot easier for them than having to fly around looking for it, don't you think?

Yes, I believe he did. What's really amazing about that is this seems to be a wild bird, not a hand raised pet. You'd expect a pet to mimic but a wild one doing that is pretty awesome.
