    so many "van life" videos are mostly about doing a bunch of expensive mods to vehicles. i like your videos because its more about making use of what you already have. which is very helpful to me just starting out with my first van. thanks for sharing

    • @SUVRVing
      @SUVRVing  6 лет назад +7

      Yeah, I think a lot of "vanlife" videos are more about the van than the life. That's fine, but it's not for everyone. Thanks for watching.

    I watch RUclips videos on living in vehicles ALL THE TIME and I have rarely found any so useful as this one! I have a 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan (minivan) that I 'live' in off and on. I travel a lot and wouldn't be able to afford doing so, if I had to pay for a motel or even a campground fee. So, I'm always trying to find free places to park that have cell phone coverage and bathrooms.
    I have a cartop carrier, so I have plenty of room. However, it seems I never have enough room, really. But, I realize it's just that I don't have things organized very well. This video gave me so excellent ideas.
    These are some of the ideas you presented that I will be researching further:
    1. Shelf/cargo net all the way across the back.
    2. Using thin plywood for shelving with small holes drilled into it, along with zip ties or paracord and carabiners. That is brilliant!
    3. Support legs made of PVC pipe.
    4. A bear canister for food storage.
    5. Visor organizers.
    6. Kleenex strapped to headrests.
    7. Paper towels held on with bungee cords attached to head rest posts.
    8. Hanging little hooks from the hard plastic ceiling lights, along with paracord loops. That is also BRILLIANT!

    • @SUVRVing
      @SUVRVing  7 лет назад +1

      Hi Cheryl! I'm so glad you found the ideas useful. The shelf/cargo net is enormously helpful and makes use of otherwise unused space. The bear canister isn't really necessary for food storage. I just use it because I have one and use it on some hikes on my trips. Let me know how any changes you make to your setup go!

    There are lots of camper van and RV interior videos but very few for SUVs so your video is really inspiring. My SUV is setup a bit like yours but with the addition of a mini "kitchen" that allows me to brew up coffee, fry eggs and cook a simple one pot meal. Thanks for this video and I look forward to more like this.

    • @SUVRVing
      @SUVRVing  6 лет назад +4

      I've used a weed sprayer shower in the past but didn't care for it because 1) it took up too much space in my car when not in use, and 2) I didn't like always having to have one hand operating the shower part. I prefer the kind of solar camp shower that can be hung up from a pole or tree branch because it is extremely compact when not being used and because it's hands-free.

    I love this idea because being in a Nissan rouge space is sparse at times. Now I could live in full time outside of doing uber with everything I own. I may do this to get more space above. I have a video posted on my channel of what I started with but it's all been changing. Making things better. I am a bigger girl so going from front to back with a board on top I'm worried I wont be able to sleep completely comfortably. Plus I have a dog as well so she takes up the front seat and floor board with her stuff. It's been great though for real. I wouldn't change it at all. Car dwelling rocks.

I lost my dog at the end of july so I do have more space now in front and passenger floor. That's where her stuff was. Still need a little more organization but I'll be making a video soon as it cools down and I can find time outside of crying.

    I just bought a 2015 Rav4 back in September and now I wish I had bought an older one lol. The donut is now in the spot where your basement is and the second glove box is just a shelf. I'm considering a roof rack solution with a spare (an actual spare) so I can use that space, but idk if it will compromise on stealth or not. Also, I enjoyed your book. It was really informative and I'm glad I have it as a reference.

    • @SUVRVing
      @SUVRVing  6 лет назад

      Yeah, my parents have a 2017 or 2018 RAV4, and it's the same with theirs. Is your spare full-size or a smaller donut-type tire? The one on the back of my 2011 is full-size, which I've always appreciated. As for the spare on top of the roof, I don't really think it screams "There's someone sleeping in here!", though it might draw an extra curious eye or two. And I'm glad you liked the book! Thanks for buying it, and let me know if you have any questions.

    The strong magnets still don’t seem strong enough to keep critters out of the RV. Reinforcing the screen with small hole chicken wire or maybe better a sturdy 1/2” square hole fencing. I recently saw someone with sturdy slide in window vents that are screened, that seem even more sturdy. They are not likely to prevent a large persistent pest, but perhaps keep a out pesky raccoon.

    Does no one know the word "floor" anymore? The ground is outside beneath our feet. Floors are inside as in the "floor of your car". You can have a ground floor indicating that the floor is at ground level. Sorry it just hurts me for some reason when people call a floor the ground, silly I know. I should share that I did subscribe and I do enjoy your videos. I have car camped in my Prius with the same self inflating mattress, a butane stove, a 12 volt coleman frig, a flip out plywood table using my hiking poles for the outer table legs, no see-um screens for my windows, a small folding 3 legged chair to sit at the table to eat, luci solar lantern, reflectix on the windows for privacy at night, etc. I really enjoyed it and appreciate the additional tips I am gaining from you.

      Your original comment was not nice, and I gave what was an appropriate response to the comment at the time. Now that you've edited it (and come on, you can't get mad at me for being quick to respond to a comment!), it doesn't sound as bad.
      I've only been making videos for a couple of months and have made only 11 videos. I'm thrilled with the number of subscribers I have.
      That's great that you've camped in a Prius. I was strongly considering getting a Prius before I got a RAV4. Those are great cars, and it sounds like they make excellent little RVs. I love how you can keep them running on the batteries overnight, and the AC will come on intermittently to keep things cool (or warm; whatever you've got it set to). At least, that's what I've read. What a great feature. That makes me want to get a hybrid RAV4 as my next car.
      Thanks for sharing your experiences, and sorry we got off on the wrong foot. I hope you enjoy my future videos. Friends?

      For two reasons, really. First, just to make sure it's not building up when I idle the car for extended periods of time. Second, for when I'm cooking with propane or butane inside the car. Thanks for watching and commenting, Pamela.

    So jealous of the organizational skills you have BUT really jealous that you're a guy and have pee bottles. Unfortunately, us ladies can't do that😭 can you show us the things you put on rice cakes? Need some ideas.

      A Tropicana (59 oz) orange juice container works nicely for guys as a p-jug. It`s long grippy neck insures no dropping. 'Spose it would work ok for a gal, too....
