    Not surprising given her exploits accomplished at 17, still a teenager at Union Catholic School Sydney she ran her split 49.85 over 4x400m. At 18, in 2018, she ran 22.39 for 200m and the 400m in 50.07 in the rain. With this time, she would have been 4th at the World Championships in Eugene. This is incredible for such a young girl!

    Gulp. With the superlative speed work, doing events outside her specialty ... it looks like Sydney is working on actually getting faster in her main event, the 400 hurdles.

      @@uadedasilva8342 Based on the times that Gabby and Abby ran in this race. If you think that this is the best they can do then you are highly mistaken. Gabby ran a 10.8s 100m just a few weeks ago. McLaughlin hasn't proved that she is a fast sprinter in the 100m or the indoor 60m where she did run one last year and her time was so poor that she never pursued it again.

      Paulino's PB isn't even as good as Syd ran last summer after just a handful of pro 400's.
      Miller-Uibo only managed like 1.8 better than Syd's 400 HURDLES time at WC in Eugene.
      She'll be doing 47.9 or lower next year and winning the world championship.

    At this point, she has a good chance at being an over all sprint champion lol. She's still very young so gold medals in 400H, 400m, 200m and maybe later 100m is very possible. That would cement her as an all time sprint great.

      @@afrobuddy4801 Bronze medal at the 2022 WC ran a time of 22:02. Bronze at 2023 WC ran a time of 21:92. She just ran a season opening 200m of 22:04 or something like that. 22 secs has won plenty of medals for women, as only few have run below 22 secs.

    She's virtually sub 22.00! Perec ran 22.07 in '96, a few days at after a 48.25 400m! I can only imagine what shape she is in for 400mH. They going for sub 50.00!?

      @bodystorm She said she is concentrating on the 400 flat, Olympic schedule would be impossible to double, 3 rounds of each plus the relay, too tight of a schedule.

For her, heats and semis are such a piece of cake! Like normal, relaxing, training days! The only challenge would be the finals. Actually, real, real challenge, just the 400 flat final. Also, the relay... she would just run the final and, again, it's going to be a piece of cake for the american team. It's such a shame she's not going for both of them. SUCH A WASTE OF A HISTORIC, UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY!!! I really hope her coach realizes that before the trials...

      Syd was within 0.04 of Kenzie's 22.03 world lead...except Syd did it INTO the wind, whereas Kenzie had the wind at her back. Clearly, Syd had the better performance.
      She also did it on her 2nd 200...Long had run 9 or 10 counting indoors....
      Syd also did it early into her season.
      Syd also did it without specializing.
      Syd also did it while EASING out of the blocks...reaction time: 0.548.
      Just give her her due; she's fast as hell.

      She WAS the poster girl for the 200m at this LA Grand Prix meet. The organisers hyped it up as Syd vs Gabby and Steiner. That's what the commentator meant and she is always on point

    Syd EASED out of the blocks: 0.548 reaction time. She is a LOT more explosive than that; she was being verrry careful...yet she *SMOKED* everyone anyway.
    She is DEFINITELY one of the best 200m sprinters in the world considering that.
    Plus she did this into a headwind.
    Plus she did it early.
    Plus she did it without specializing in it.
    Didn't even try to put more knee lift in or cut the stride length vs her 400m form.
    When she does, WATCH OUT.
    Don't be surprised if she goes for a 200/400 double at Tokyo 2025...
