Nothing like being close to family so your child can get to know them. Time goes too fast and we have to appreciate family while we have them.

This may be a unpopular opinion, and You have to do ultimately what’s best for you and your family assuming that both of you want this, otherwise there will be bitterness in the relationship. As a mother of a Nicu baby, I can’t imagine not having family nearby to help out and give you a break. Your relationship will be stronger when you have the ability to have breaks together and separate. Also, keep in mind no matter where you move there will always be challenging times. Stand strong and face them where ever you end up.

Boston is truly such a beautiful city! I grew up in the suburbs around Boston and now live in the city with my husband and love it, especially in the warmer months :) Hope you, Z, and Bryson are able to find a great home and community here if you end up moving. So happy for y'all, Renee! 💛

I always loved your NY apartment. I think a busy city that’s not too crazy matches your energy and vibe. You can always fly back home to see family or they can fly over. You have a stable and steady partner by your side, your entire experience when you were pregnant was the true test of your relationship. If you can get through that together you can get through anything. At the end of the day life isn’t perfect and neither are our decisions. Do what makes you happy for now and if it doesn’t work out in the long run that’s cool too. Life is all about movement, you’re lucky you have the freedom and opportunity to make this move. No need to feel guilty. I hope it works out for you Renee 🤗

I pray everything works out if Boston is truly where you both want to be as a family ❤ the significantly higher costs, bigger city environment and distance from family seems like the opposite direction of what you wanted when y’all when were briefly looking at suburb Florida homes.

I’m originally from south Florida and have lived in Chicago for 10 years now. I’ve got an almost 2 and almost 4 year old and we love it here in the summer and fall but winter with kids has been a bit of a struggle feeling more cooped up- definitely considered moving back but we love the walkability, lakefront etc. There are definitely family friendly and safer neighborhoods- Lincoln park, lakeview, Andersonville, roscoe village, edgewater if you decide to explore this area. Good luck!

In the best way possible I think moving away from family is probably something that shouldn’t be done. Especially because you have voiced that it’s hard for you to do this mainly by yourself and you need help, so if you are moving somewhere that you have no one then your mental health will probably plummet further. I think with you still newly post partum and Bry being so little you should consider staying around family so you have others to reach out to and be able to come and help you when you need.

I’m 100% on board for doing what works for YOUR family! My husband and I moved to the Bay Area when our daughter was 8 months old. Completely away from family and it was the best decision we made. We grew so close, just the three of us. Fast forward a couple of years and our daughter was diagnosed with cancer. And while we were away from family, we are 100% grateful we are literally next door to some of the best pediatric oncologists and hospital in the world, for her specific cancer. And we always said if we moved, it would only be to Boston, DC, Seattle, Chicago, or NY bc they have the best drs for our daughter’s cancer and post-treatment issues. Do what you want to do for your family!!!

Renee, this is crazy you are moving so close to me! (Ive been following you since 2018) i think your son would benefit from the schools and the medical care he needs. One thing i want to caution you about is it gets COLD and i mean frigid during our winters. Weve been having more mild winters as of late, but just a cautionary thing for youre little one. Also, taxes are extremely high in mass and even more so in the city. I think it will be a nice move for you, but i am trying to get out of here, although i live in western mass so its not the city life. I wish you and your family the best of luck with the move and everything!!! ❤❤❤

It seems like boston would be hard to live with a baby. It's incredibly expensive, especially the areas youre drawn too, and the winters can be harsh. There are areas you can walk around, but not all year, especially when it's snowing or raining. Definitely still going to need a car and that weather can be terrible to drive in. I know many people from there who moved here to Florida to get away from the winters there! Also, people with families tend to live in the suburbs. Those high rises are more geared towards single people or those without children. Not to mention the whole college town vibes with a bunch of partiers. It seems as if you just like moving around and the thrill of exploring new places. I hope you can find a place to settle down eventually for your son. Traveling is great but with kids having a stable home to grow up in without constantly switching schools and having to make new friends is more important than the thrill of always moving around like when you were single.

I live in MA and worked in Boston for a long time...For the city, I think the Seaport area and Fort Point Channel might be best for you in terms of walking and having lots to do right outside your door, but it will be pricey, but is young and exciting. A rental along Beacon St. in the Back Bay near Newbury would be nice too.
Just outside Boston - Chestnut Hill, Newton, Brookline - you may get a bit more space, and outdoor space for your money :)
Beware, public transportation is not the best - the MBTA is not reliable, has safety issues (structural and equipment related) and they just hired a new director to try to get on top of things. You will be relying on Uber most likely.

I understand the want to have a fresh start, but the cost of living in Boston is really high, especially compared to Tampa. Not to mention, the winters in Boston are pretty harsh, so be prepared to be stuck in the house with an infant. You also won’t be near any of your family members, and as a mother of a 18 month old, I couldn’t imagine living away from my family. Moving to a new city would’ve been a good idea if it was just the two of you, but I don’t believe it’s the best decision with an infant. Sorry if I’m playing devil’s advocate here..

I tend to agree, especially while baby is young. It’s so much easier on a couple with kids to have someone nearby to help.

Agreed...family is so important! Sometimes moving is running away from something. Better to overcome the struggles or it will just be one move after another.

@@ylvandamme I second this. The infant days are when we needed our immediate family most!

I agree with this sentiment. Boston is full of people her age, but none of them have kids yet. It’s going to be hard for them to integrate as a family. Families are in the burbs and are in their 30’s. The winter is going to be limiting and there are just days there that you aren’t going to want to bundle a NICU baby in a puffer jacket and take him out in 0 degree weather. If there’s a snow storm, you aren’t going anywhere. My cousin had a baby and lived in an apartment in white plains with her husband. She developed post partum depression during the winters there. She felt trapped inside all day with a crying infant. They moved to FL during the pandemic where they are originally from and she’s been much happier. The daughter was also a NICU baby and is now thriving.

I don’t understand the hype over these luxury apartments. The apartments in Boston (specifically luxury ones) are incredibly outrageously expensive. I thought the house idea in Florida was such a great idea. Especially with a baby.

The Assembly Row area in Somerville is a great area. Great hospital, food, shopping. Next to T station. You'll be an hour away! 😊

The second apartment looked like your style, based on the previous places you’ve lived. Floor to ceiling windows, loads of natural light… ❤
