I use purslane as a living cover crop. I thin it if it gets ahead of my harvesting and it helps me save on water.

I love Purslane and all the wild plants that grow. I make salves and eat them . Don't get rid of any wild plants until you know what they are and what they are good for
I absolutely love the joy you two exude with every video. The little things (a pepper) make you so happy and you haven't become complacent with your garden. I love it and it's what keeps me coming back to your channel.
Now...about those tomato plants. So this is the first year I've trellised mine up on a fence similar to yours. I started the bottom of the fence about 18 inches off the ground, above the tomatoes. At that time the tomatoes couldn't reach the fence yet and I was too scared to prune them (I pruned last year and ended up getting a very small tomato harvest). So now that my tomatoes have grown up I have massive bushy plants with like 3 main-ish stems and tons of suckers. They grew more out than up. How should I prune next year while they're still too short to reach the fence, in order to have taller plants?

Keeping you both in my thoughts and prayers. July is a rough month for me too. My dad passed on July 28th and my mom passed on July 30th..they died 15 years apart. And we have a lot of family birthdays in July also. I'm a Michigander too. I hope you all have a great time on your vacation! Make those memories!

Your harvest is awesome and if you get that much each day it's going to be wild when you get home and start putting it up and canning and etc.........love the crop! Waiting for our tomatoes to pop out they are just still in bloom...........cold here in Wash state and close to the mountain is even cooler........we are ready for some heat! LOL

I hope all of you have a great vacation! You will be home before you know it , so take lots of photos and maybe a video for those of us who love you guys . You make me wish that I was younger and had a green thumb. Your children will bless you when they are older for putting time with them as a family having fun together as a priority. Mine have, they are in their 40's and have many happy memories of family times and family vacations.
Hey ya'll, does the beta alpha cucumbers pickle well?
As in stay crunchy.
I know they make a great slicer but I have seen people canning them.
I tried a different pickling cucumber last yr that I loved fresh had a smoother skin and smell seeds.
But once processed it was mushy.
Like throw them all out mushy.
I had never had a soft or mushy pickle until those.
So this year I planted my normally pickling cucumber and that are great and stay crunchy even after processing.
I did grow the others for fresh eating or refrigerator pickles but will never process them again.
But I had been wonder about the beta alpha.
Hope you can give me some info on all that lol.

That sunflower will be perfect by the time y’all get back. You will get to enjoy it. They last more then a week usually. Mine grew taller than my house I’m in a double wide home I harvested the seeds

I wish I knew you were going to Gatlinburg I was there today, would have loved to meet you. I know you have been there lots of times but if you haven’t gone to Clingmans Dome it’s really nice you might enjoy the hike.
You can saute the purslane with some garlic and a little salt too. Mmm mm. I hear you can pickle it too but haven't tried yet.

I love sugar rush peach peppers! They are my favorite to make pepper jelly with.
My daddy taught me to always pull the stem off the tomatoes before you put them in your bucket/basket so they don't puncture each other. Your garden looks great.

I would say more anxiety than PTSD honestly. My better half has severe PTSD from service in Afghanistan and it's rather different than anxiety which he also has. I pray everything will be good while you're gone 🙏
