The smoothness of that hip throw is INSANE !
Thanks Coach
You're welcome!
So interesting how judo and wrestling treat tiny mechanical details different in this technique
Yes, someone else commented on that. In wrestling, we want to throw the opponent and land perpendicular so that we are not rolled through because we will lose points.
Former wrestler here (215lbs). Whenever me and my teammates saw bad stances we would get excited because that meant we could try a move like this and be the fastest to win a match or that we could just do really flashy moves and execute them. The moral of the story is that a solid stance is everything. A shoulder push and a tug from the back of your neck would tell me everything i need to know about you. Love the content. Keep up the great work
Awesome! Thanks!
Great explanation and great execution. Awesome
Glad you liked it!
The thing I most adore on a basketball floor is wrestling mats from door to door!
Great poem!
You make second nature almost look 1st..I'm 49 years young and still practicing shoots and flow styles always wrist control throughout need be..Ball n chain, pop, leg drag to ride. Respect
Impressive! Thanks for watching!
Salute ❤
Thank you!
Bro thanks I used to teach In a room like that god bless Life is never better thanks
True!
We appreciate the content Cary 👍
Glad to hear it!
Awesome ❤❤
Thanks!
Great technique. The cross step is important to pull this off and its something i always have trouble with. We call it a koshi guruma in judo and it works well.
You have to drill the back step with a bungee or a partner with many reps to develop this skill which is necessary for all hip throws in wrestling.
Great video! You should make a compilation of the best moves to do during a wrestling match, that would be sick 👍 😎
Thanks for the idea!
Super
Thank you!
That head and arm technique would work well in Judo as well. I'm sure somebody has done a study on the application of Judo throws to wrestling and vice versa.
We appreciate all out Judo brothers!
Beautiful hip toss! I’m a 1st degree black belt in Hapkido, and a wrestler. I haven’t seen that power in a hip toss in a long time.🤣
Thank you!
❤❤👌 very nice
Happy to hear you like it!
Fancy hip toss.
The backs step skill is the basic skill necessary for all hip throws. Arm Throw, Headlock, Hip Toss, etc.
The hip is the crucial part of this for me. You see people grab the head and try to muscle the person over and that’s such poor technique and will likely give up your back to your opponent. You almost can’t pivot your hip through this too far.
Yes, you have to have a good back step to get that hip in position for the throw.
I’ve watched homie get flopped like 15 times in a row. Hoping he’s getting royalties. Haha
Thank you for your contribution.
Cary, what take-downs, sweeps and throws do you recommend for someone 6 feet, 180 lb?
Watch David Taylor wrestle. He is 5' 11" and a good example for you to follow.
Thank you Coach Kolat. I will look him up. Off the top of your head, would you happen to know of any taller Greco fighters to watch as well? Hope your day is going well@@KOLATCOM
Very good move but shouldn’t there be a setup? Or could we really just go right in for the hip throw?
Yes, there should always be a setup. This video is just explaining the back step skill which is necessary for all arm, head and hip throws. Here is a playlist of throws where you use the back step the individual throws include a setup. ruclips.net/p/PLP-FIhaSeqypmOayMWEHuE9uDJxPA-IpZ
What a good sport OB is…
What a victim, lol. Kolat made him better though, no doubt about it.
Obe is a world-class wrestler and demonstrating moves is nothing for him or any world-class athlete. Obe is now Head Wrestling Coach at North Dakota State University.
Ive gotten really good at the sag headlock from the same arm and hand position. I can probably work this throw in pretty easily im thinking! Does it matter how much distance there is in between you and opponent as long as you hit the pivot right? Closer is better?
Not too close because it will be hard to pivot. Need to drill the back step to get the feel.
Any footage of OB? Would like to see him on the offensive 😂

Does this backstep work for the arm throw as well?
Yes, the back step skill is necessary for arm throw, headlock, and hip toss. Here is a playlist of all our short videos which use the back step. ruclips.net/p/PLP-FIhaSeqyrpUf1EjaDDe08FOkS4bQkM
Thank you.
Is there a reason why you pivot through so much and throw him almost sideways over youe lower back while the judo guys dont pivot so far and place their hips more or less square to the other person? Seems like your way makes you land already perpendicular, ready for the pin.
Yes, this perpendicular finish prevents a roll through in wrestling. In Judo a roll through does not matter because a proper throw ends the match.
@@KOLATCOM oh that's interesting!! thank you for the answer!
How is this takedown called in wrestling?
This video explains the back step skill which is necessary for all hip throws in wrestling (to get your hips in position for the throw). The move shown here in the demonstration of the back step is called a "headlock" or "head and arm."
@@KOLATCOM Thanks! I practice Judo and we call it Koshi Guruma. I wonder what other throws are available in both sports.
Is this legal in folkstyle for high-school?
No, standing back step throws can be called as slams in folkstyle. You can use it if you do a knee drop throw.

Thanks for the Judo info. Wrestling is the oldest sport!
Don't tell me wrestlers can't dance.
Ha ha!
Jesus that look like you broke his neck. I would not want to wrestle you LOL
Wrestling mats provide a soft landing and elite wrestlers know how to throw and they know how to land. We have no issues with these demonstrations this is how we train everyday.
Discus,?
Or hammer throw!
