Thanks for this! My father was an auto mechanic. So is my brother. I watched him do a brake job on my 2007 RAV4 5 years ago. I decided back then that the next time I'd try to do it myself. Between watching my brother and your video I was able to successfully accomplish the job. Of course, I ran into a few stumbling blocks along the way. The front left and right caliper pins were nearly frozen in place, despite being greased at the time of the last brake job. I was able to get them freed up and working correctly. The rear brake calipers were TOAST! The caliper pins were completely frozen in place. One was so bad that when trying to free it up... It broke off in the hole! There was also an unbelievable amount of rust inside of the pistons. I replaced both sides of the rear calipers and bled the brakes. After the break in, all is well.
What I also like to do is spray paint with black or grey the rotor (the inner part that sticks out), this way the rotor looks nice for a lot longer time without looking rusty because that part rusts within a few weeks in rust belt states. Other than that, excellent video!
nice video hope next time you can mention the right and left Rotor as well the rear differences , please continue doing video regarding Rav4 so exciting to learn more Thanks
I purchased TRQ front pad/rotors for my 06 RAV4 and do not see the metal clip that goes on top of the brake pad in this video?? Jhun Zamora called them metal sensors. The clips were in the box the pads came with and was on the brake pad that I removed. If anyone is wondering what the bolt size is to help get a stuck rotor off it is 8M-1.25.
I like the comment you made right at the end about liking to check the you torqued all the wheel nuts. Last time i took my Rav to my local toyota dealer i got it back with one less nut on one of the wheels. So they don't even like to check it's got the right about of lug nuts holding the wheel. Wanna be my new mechanic?
Yep. I do the "Toyota way" as described in Rav4World - use a rubber/silicon-safe grease for the piston boot - it is good at high temps. Good for that side brake pad - apply thin film on the pad and piston area.

We watched this video this morning and had everything replaced by lunchtime, thanks so much for explaining in a clear way 😊

Use silicone paste for pins, not grease.

You'd be surprised how many people have no clue that drilled and slotted rotors actually have a right and left and that they really are different.
Beautiful video and very smooth job. Thank you.

Best video I've seen on this.
Do you have a particular brand/type of "grease" that you recommend for lubricating the caliper pins?
Well at least he was honest to tell you that the pads did not need replacing.

Nice tutorial on brake job!
This was super helpful. All these years I’ve been removing the caliper and bracket as one big unit. Now I know how to do it correctly.

What size of thread are the bolts used to break rotor clear of the hub and what type of grease to you use on the movable pin?
Yes...What size bolt????
@@rickbeckman2306 On my 2006 RAV4 the bolt size was 8M-1.25
Chris fix said to use silicone grease so that's what I use, look him up
Do you pump brakes if its AWD at the end or after each break and rotor change
very clear explained
what size bolt that help to push the rotor out
Went from a super rusty hub to a brand spanking new one in one take lol! Anyways, great instruction video.

Fantastic job...thanks!
thanks!
It's very clear , thank you so much .

is it necessary to use brake pad clips, I noticed this car only has a caliper retaining clips.
Good job
Yo forgot to mention to brake clean the new rotors since they come with grease
The drilled and slotted rotors have a nickel coating, not a film rust inhibitor. They don't need brake cleaner.
great video! what size is that bolt you used to push the rotor off?
14mm and I think 17mm
M8-1.25
11:50 boss did you put the old rotor?
Brake caliper bolts for RAV 4
I always clean and lube my pins while I'm there

Yeah, I wouldn’t use a socket wrench as a breaker bar…
You forgot to install the metal sensor on the pads
They are not "sensors" they are wear indicators. They are not essential.
Which me luck! 😅
The biggest rust problem occurs between the bracket and the hardware clips, forcing the clips to pinch the brake pad ears.
