First off, congrats on getting close to 1000. By definition there's only about 1000 people that can even have a full Alpha set -- unless you have really deep pockets I'd not want to start now. As far as questions, here's a few: 1. When did you start playing and/or collecting Magic? 2. What got you started? 3. If different, when did you start gaming? 4. When did you start collecting Alpha cards? 5. I know you have a full set (even if some are slabbed only -- they count) -- when did you complete it? 6. (Optional for obvious reasons) How much did it cost to put together the set? (Again, optional -- it'd be nice to give at least ballpark numbers so people contemplating an attempt at a set get an idea as to what they are facing) 7. Ever contemplate going for a second set? 8. Do you have or plan to get a Beta Set? Unlimited? Arabian Nights? Antiquities? Legends? The Dark? (or any other sets of note?) 9. Do you have an exit plan? 10. Any thoughts on collecting and/or investing in Magic in general (besides card condition -- you've made it clear your thoughts on that already)? I can think of more, but trying to stay on topic. oh yes, I'd like to echo #9 here - that's something overlooked 99% of the time... sure, we know these are great investments and will go up, and how and where to buy them, etc etc. but few people talk about when is a right time to sell? And how do you sell? Since there's typically a big price descrepancy of average sold ebay listings and what actually goes into your pocket when selling 😂

A topic for your Q&A: what is your opinion on ICE and CE cards? Some state that the print run of ICE is around 5k or even below that, which makes the commons from this set the rarest commons in the entire game. The Alpha still has this prestige factor over ICE and CE and it will remain as such, but do you think the current gap between Beta/Unlimited and ICE/CE will disappear?

I personally like the ‘buy out’ kind of content and the market data you have accumulated and share. I also don’t think it’s flexing at all to show what you. That’s all the fun of collecting and seeing what others have got after all. I’d say just keep on doing what you’re doing. I just don’t get bored of looking at cards, I really like when you open packages and go through purchases examining each card very closely and slowly. But heck I guess that’s the allure of Alpha

Honestly, though, it's not really flexing if that's the intended purpose of the channel. Say there's a channel that is intended to talk about and document a guy's collection of fine Italian sports cars. Some may perceive that as a flex, but it's just life to that guy. Call it whatever you will, his main viewers are there to see the cars. Whether some think it's a flex or not is irrelevant. At the end of the day, they all want to see his cars. In our case, we all want to see your cards. 😁
Mike, i wouldn't change a thing....don't listen to the naysayers and ignore the "dislikes".....i really like your channel b/c it's actually quite calming and relaxing....yeah, i own and like Alpha cards too, but i really come here just to hear you talk....i'd rather you not change anything and do a video every 4 weeks or whenever you can....the real "fans" will stick with you.....numbers are just numbers...don't discount the "ancillary" benefits of your videos....like the buyout one....i'm doing the same thing and it was great to see your stats and how it worked out for you...family comes first of course, but so far i think on the whole the community loves your channel....like they say, "if it's not broken, don't fix it"....i for one was really looking forward to seeing more of your collection....i say stay the course with your original plan.

I spent some time going through my Alpha binder yesterday for the first time in a while. Do you have any collecting goal in mind, like 4 of each Alpha card? Or do you just buy every Alpha card that is in good enough condition for you if the price reasonable? If you are buying many copies of the same card, you would be increasingly pushing prices against you, both when buying and when eventually selling. Don’t you find that an issue and wouldn’t you prefer to buy something different when you have many copies of the same card?
Question: Watching your videos and others like Openboosters... I'm interested in the financial aspects. Not to get too personal, but how do you afford this incredible collection? Also how do you protect it? Insurance, fire-proof safe, home vault? :)

Random Topics for a Q&A: if you had to go for another complete set (other than Alpha/Beta) which one would you go for? What’d you think of all the new product WotC is pumping out? Other than alpha what was your favorite set when you were playing (I think I recall you mentioning that) or what would be your second?
I still can't quite wrap my head around how high end collectors like yourself know exactly what the total inventory is like for these vintage cards! I remember someone showcasing some P9 alpha's and blurring out the serial number to ensure the anonymity of the seller. It's a very interesting, narrow community of folk who have a really cool appreciation of not just the cards, but also the market. I don't have the scratch to spare, and didn't start collecting until 94/95, so these ABU/AK/Antiquities/Legends cards generally stand as cool rarities instead of nostalgic desires for me. My son is 5 and loves the art, stories, and quotes, but doesn't really care otherwise heh. Does the Volcanic Eruption have printer errors on the front left, there were some white splotches in the border? Is that normal? Anyway dude, I dig your channel, it's cool hearing your thoughts on the field and seeing the - oh damn that Basalt Monolith looks particularly pretty - cards!

I can possibly complete an Unlimited set over time. I've often heard and believe almost any goal can be achieved if you work hard towards it. My question is, what is your goal, if you have one, and when did this goal take root?

Yeah those guys are great 💪💪 I only recently realized that when you buy directly from their site, they give you a discount in the cart. Their list prices on the site all match their TCG player listings until you go to checkout… buy from them directly!
I wonder if it's time to buy out all the U1's from both Arabian Nights and Antiquities. Seems odd so many cards that have the same print run as Library of Alexandria, or Candelabra of Tawnos are sitting at sub $50, (same with quite a few of the U2s as well).
I know the feeling! Granted, print run is only one of the variables in a card’s value; nonetheless, I do suspect it’s a good time to build the positions you want in those cards, since the supply depth is becoming ever-more shallow. As for buyouts, my own experiments suggest they are only feasible for the very playable cards, and none of those are still priced in that range, unfortunately.
What's your opinion about using relatively unknown sellers or big sellers with a dubious reputation, who have been caught selling fakes or trimmed card in the past? It also depends on the protection provided by the platform, right? Ever look into buy cards in sets rarer than alpha like Summer Magic or English Portal Three Kingdoms?

An interesting idea, although I think the Internet is pretty much forever 🤔 it’s not like I have giant piles of stuff I haven’t shared, it’s just that the tone is changing as the channel gets more viewers. My most disliked (thumbs down) videos is the one where I shared at my White Commons hoard. I still would like to do that for the other colors, but I admit that reaction surprised me. That’s one of my favorite parts of my collection. So it’s things like that where I don’t feel the right message comes across…

I wonder if it's time to buy out all the U1's from both Arabian Nights and Antiquities. Seems odd so many cards that have the same print run as Library of Alexandria, or Candelabra of Tawnos are sitting at sub $50, (same with quite a few of the U2s as well).
I know the feeling! Granted, print run is only one of the variables in a card’s value; nonetheless, I do suspect it’s a good time to build the positions you want in those cards, since the supply depth is becoming ever-more shallow. As for buyouts, my own experiments suggest they are only feasible for the very playable cards, and none of those are still priced in that range, unfortunately.
What's your opinion about using relatively unknown sellers or big sellers with a dubious reputation, who have been caught selling fakes or trimmed card in the past? It also depends on the protection provided by the platform, right? Ever look into buy cards in sets rarer than alpha like Summer Magic or English Portal Three Kingdoms?

An interesting idea, although I think the Internet is pretty much forever 🤔 it’s not like I have giant piles of stuff I haven’t shared, it’s just that the tone is changing as the channel gets more viewers. My most disliked (thumbs down) videos is the one where I shared at my White Commons hoard. I still would like to do that for the other colors, but I admit that reaction surprised me. That’s one of my favorite parts of my collection. So it’s things like that where I don’t feel the right message comes across…

Hahaha yeah that would be an epic pickup 🤣 I haven’t confirmed it independently, but supposedly a small portion of the beta print run had the alpha cut corners before the die was replaced. If that’s true, I guess that means it’s possible there is actually an alpha cut authentic volcanic island out there 🤔
