I watched this when it first aired as a kid, here I am in 2020, 26, and it still gives me the same feeling! I will never forget this cover. The prettiest cover of this song thus far to me, this very version! It always makes me release any sadness on my heart, and gives me hope. 😭😭😭😭💕
I remember watching this when it aired live in remembrance of 9/11. Had me sobbing, and has never failed to bring me to tears since. Heck, someday I want it played at my funeral...it’s a song of comfort for loved ones, for sure... (is that too macabre? Heh)
When I was going through a rough time at school, I remember listening to this which made me almost burst into tears. With her singing this song, she basically sang it to me saying just hang on to this and one day you will be free. That's what I like about Alicia Keys till this day!!!!!!
Absolutely perfect voice. Alicia is the best. So extremely soulful and absolutely beautiful. No matter what, Alicia is always soulful and very passionate and emotional with all her songs. Some things never change. Maybe clothing style but not the soul, passion, or emotion she puts into every performance. She is amazing! Great then and NOW!
I will never ever ever ever ever forget hearing her sing this while our city and country were devastated. This to me is the soundtrack of NYCs healing.
@scorpioize I couldn't agree more. Watching this live was one of the hardest moments I had in the couple weeks after 09/11. Hands down it was the best performance of the special.
@scorpioize I also saw this performance live during the telethon that night; I always think of it when I remember the morning of September 11. This song has been a vital part of my life's soundtrack since then, and always will be. I know what you mean.
+ConservativeAnthem Haha! Who cares?? It's amazing and beautiful. I really think those things your talking about are emotions coming out in her performance:)

Best cover of one of the greatest Donny Hathaway songs ever.
So profoundly beautiful... Sacred.. It makes me cry every time I hear it...

Much love to you beautiful lady 🌹✌️
Y’all catch that short sample she did from Michael Jackson’s, “Lady in My Life?” 👀 🤌🏾

que que isso meu deus ela é muito boa
Her voice is beautiful! Watching this almost brings tears because of 9/11.
She's Crying in 2:56.
This performance was done a few days after September 11 at a tribute for 9/11 Heroes
After my true heart.❤
♥👑
This turns me into a big baby every time I hear it 😭
mee too i thought alicia keys didnt come out until 2002 wow i am only 19
❤🖤💚 SOMEDAY
She was nineteen years old when she did this.
20
Just noticed how she borrowed from Michael Jackson's "The Lady In My Life" at the end.
I was SCOURING the comments to see if anyone else picked up on that! Glad you heard it too :)
❤❤❤
this should have been on "element of freedom", it would have been a standout track
She did put a live version on the Songs In A Minor re-release. It's on RUclips. In my opinion, a superior version. She sounded a bit shaky here.
@@lookhowshegobbledthat I got to check it out
❤️
🌹
Well...this one is really nice, but you should check out how miss Lalah is performing this song...
what do you meen by that?
she is great
i though alicia keys didnt come out until 2002 wow she was out when aaliyah died and 9/11 attacks?
+angel johnson She was. If I Ain't Got You was inspired by Aaliyah's passing.
@scorpioize i found this song through that CD.
💔💔💔
@12youtub amen!
@rosiaa sorry ... but before what?
This is when she could sing
@Angel Johnson Not as well
she was so much better before
true hater on the front line conservative anthem
She is good. But this particular song, she cant touch Donnie Hathaway. not the hymn of his garment. vocal or keys.
Voice off, timing changes, and a few clams on the keys, but still an interesting rendition.
+ConservativeAnthem Haha! Who cares?? It's amazing and beautiful. I really think those things your talking about are emotions coming out in her performance:)

Fair enough.
I seem to recall there were only a few days to rehearse this.
There's a better version on here, vocally and pianowise, a live concert performance she released on the re-release of her first album.
