I'll probably get this game eventually, considering I never played the Wii U version & I've been constantly hearing how great of a game Wooly World is & how it's apparently on par with the original Yoshi's Island game, which is a fantastic SNES game, & it's nice to have a good Yoshi game on the go, especially after dealing with the disaster that was Yoshi's "New" Island...
I got this game and I'm super happy with it. It's great that the people who only have a 3DS (like me) don't miss out on this game. It's a lot of fun to play and Poochy is an awesome addition. Plus those movies were adorable.
"Is the port of Yoshi's Woolly World on 3DS just as good as the original? Or is Poochy just a bad dog? Find out in our review of Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World!" I don't want Poochy to be a bad dog :'v
Whenever I'm early to a video, my master Shrek says to spread the word about him. We need to get Shrek party switch as a launch title! If that doesn't happen....he will punish me for failing... but I think I might actually enjoy it ;)
The port is really good. It's still a wonderful experience, no different from the original except for the lack of HD visuals. The extra features are nice, especially the custom yoshis!
in my opinion, the less detailed graphics actually make the whole yarn artstyle look better! and I also think that it is a good idea to port games from the wii u, so that people who don't want to buy a wii u (as the Internet says, a pretty bad console) can just play them on the 3ds or switch, both being much better consoles
I seriously don't know why I fell in love with this game so much on the Wii U. I already pre-ordered it for 3DS WITH the Poochy amiibo. I have all the Yarn Yoshi amiibos, including the Mega Yarn Yoshi! I love this game! 😂
It is true that the Wii U version is getting an update on February 3rd for this right? I read that on a handful of reputable sites like Destructoid and Nintendo Life. I would assume the amiibo would also work for the Wii U version
Just picked this game up on my Wii U. Kinda wish I would have waited for the 3DS version. It would have been a little more expensive, but this is a game that just feels at home on a portable system to me.
I just finished it on WiiU, so no point in buying it again on 3DS.. For now, at least. I might still buy it later this year. Just like with the Switch: Good things come to those who wait :)
I don't want to buy this game again, but I love the game and love the new features of new amiibo support and Yoshi customization. I wish they would update the Wii U game to add those features.
I was planning to get this game with a yoshi yarn amiibo but don't know if the yoshi yarn amiibo is compatible (or can be used) in this game. Any answer?
Hey Derrick, I hate to be nit picky, but on the Wii U version, you could purchase power badges mid-level just like here in the 3DS version. Other than that, it seems like a successful port. I probably won't pick it up, but it's good to see that it's jusr as good as the original, unlike Mario Maker 3DS.
This actually looks better than the Wii U version. I have the game for my Wii U but I am going to sell it (the console) once I get a Switch so I'll definitely get this game for my 2DS.
I feel that you should get the Wii U version because its 10 dollars cheaper (30$) plus if you are a My Nintendo member then you get a 15% off on the Wii U version, obviously if you have the platinum points. I was going to get the 3ds version until i looked up the Wii U versions price.
I just bought the game for the wii u, but I REALLY want the poochy amiibo (1. My dogs name is poochy and it's SOOO adorable). I'm pretty sure the amiibo can only be bought with the game, but I just want the amiibo, what should I do? Also I feel like I'm missing ALOT from this game, Am I?
I own both a Wii-U and an old 3DS. If I was to pick up Yoshi's Woolly World I would get the Wii-U version since I don't care about missing out on an auto runner mini-game, though no offence to the new poochey mode. While I like the Yoshi's Island games Woolly World isn't high on my list for next game to get, that would probably go to Pikmin 3 or Hyrule Warriors on Wii-U.
I missed out on the original game, so I'm curious which of the two versions I should pick up. I'm not to worried about having it portable or not, I just want to know which would be a better first impression.
Stephendw Yea I've got the same dilemma. I just don't know which version to get.. I guess it comes down to do you want to experience the intended art style and aesthetic or do you want the bonus content/levels... it's so hard to choose!
Stephendw I'd definitely get the wii u version. The only reason i prefer the 3ds v is portability but the visuals are vastly better on wii u that its really not worth losing over some new levels.
The 3DS has tons of games worth playing. I just got a new 3DS XL for Christmas after my old one was stolen. I would recommended a new 3DS or a new 3DS XL
I wish they'd sell the Poochy amiibo separately, that thing's adorable! But if I were to get Woolly World, I'd want the Wii U version. I mean it's suuuch a good looking game on there that it feels like if I want the game, that's the one to get.
With Mario maker 3DS I didn't feel like I was missing out since there was some new stuff but some stuff missing. Here it's just more and better stuff with no downside apart from graphics and they're not even that worse, particularly since I have a new3ds, so I feel a bit screwed for having bought the Wii u version. The poochy stuff and shorts should be available as DLC on the Wii u version
hey guys, quick question. Do you guys think Nintendo will port over Wooly World to the Switch? Reason I ask is because I'm a yoshi's island fan but I own a decrepit/worn down launch day 3ds with the whole scratched screen, rubber no longer on the control pad situation. I really want to play this game, but My options are buying a new nintendo 3ds or buying a wii u. Both of these options require I pay 200+ dollars for a dying system that will no longer have new game releases. I can't afford either. console Considering I plan on buying a switch. So, again, do you guys think there'll be a Switch version of this game...eventually?
3ds is not dying any time soon, not only that the 3ds already has an amazing library as of now thx to Nintendo and 3 parties supporting it so its still a great system to have with the Swtch. So my thoughts on Wolly World potentially being on the Switch, well i don't see that happening BUT in IMO a sequel or a continuation of this game would be a lot better for the Switch than an other port. Having a sequel that improves and surpasses the original is what the Switch needs and deserves.
I beat and got 100% completion on the Wii U version, and don't feel like it's necessary to get the 3DS version, imo. But also, I don't really agree with those who think "why did I buy the Wii U?" I mean from just looking at it and how little it adds, it doesn't seem that much better, and the same with Mario Kart, you got to play the game 2-3 years earlier than those who wait for the Switch version
while I'm happy this is a solid port, I'll stick to the Wii u version. first off I haven't even completed the original (thanks to time and games like mgsv, spirit of justice, ff15, rise of tomb raider, etc. taking priority) and secondly while there is more additional content than I thought, it is overall not very interesting or really adds to the core game. Still glad that the majority of Nintendo's audience get to experience it and now the 3ds has a good yoshi game.
This port demonstrates that Nintendo prefers Yoshi over Super Mario Blecch-ker. Its even hinted in the names! "Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS" Mediocre name, mediocre port (and the Wii U one may probably have been mediocre as well if it weren't for the online). "Poochy and Yoshi's Wooly World": For a port exactly just as awesome as the original Wii U version (it only lacks multiplayer in comparison), a better name than the one the SMM port got.
should i buy this game or the wii u version, really want to play co-op but my friends don't visit very ofte so I actually can't do anything with it, i rhink i buy the 3ds version
I'd say go with the 3DS version. I really didn't enjoy co-op that much. I kept accidentally eating my partner and making him lose all his egg/yarn balls plus if Player 1 goes to far the screen leaves Player 2 behind making he/she die
Real_SuperPig I would get the 3ds as well because you can take it anywhere and the short levels amd simplicity to the game makes it feel just right on 3ds. w
One big problem I have with YIDS is each world's boss castle level music. I do like some of the original level themes in that game though. The soundtrack, while not the most important thing in a game, I definitely think is better in the original YI and in YWW.
I too love the DS game and the baby-swapping is amazing, but some of those levels (I'm thinking of the autoscroll ones) are almost too difficult to the point of frustration. Not only is the difficulty on the extreme side, but some of them are kind of a clusterfuck of awful in terms of how much crap is being thrown at you (bouncies falling out of the sky, etc.). Please don't misconstrue, I 100%-ed that shit, but when you're playing black Yoshi in that autoscroll lava level and you have to catch every damn star buddy or risk wrecking your high score, AND the lava levels are rising from below, the game can be brutal. I still don't really know how I managed to do that one. I think I ricocheted an egg off of a goony or a bullet bill and got my stars that way. LOL :P Great game, but some of those levels make me shudder in hindsight.
Or, as LuckySevenDX said in his playthrough: "You may break my body, Yoshi's Island, but you'll never break my spirit!" It's the DS game he was talking about, and truer words were never spoken. ;)
In what way? This has more features than the Wii U version, it's objectively better unless you *really* care *that* much about stupid graphic- Oh wait. It's you. #WiiUMasterrace #NintendoSwitchMasterrace.
Diamond Dragon721 No. It's not. I really enjoyed co-op in Yoshi's Woolly World, and I don't even see a reason why it wouldn't be on the 3DS. Yoshi designing is not that great when you already have so many designs to choose from. Sure, it's nice, but nothing major. And neither are the Poochy stages. They don't even look that fun, to be honest. Of course, I don't mean that these additions are useless, but they certainly don't make up for the missing co-op.
The same happens in the 2DS and 3DS versión of Poochy & YWW. In the NEW 3DS, the same game runs at 60fps instead. Therefore, only NEW 3DS owners get the closest thing to the original game (not counting the additions, those are for everyone)...
This is great for people who don't have a Wii U, but wanted to play this game.
Cyotetrickster excatly
Yeah I prefer the 3DS over the Wii U because well, I don't have one
@@yoshixcrossing2355 Haha, same here!
I just bought it on eBay I wanna play it I love platformers and games where you have to collect things
So the average demegraphic
Here's what he should've said"
"This game is cute"
(ends video)
I couldn't agree more.
Good review! I appreciate you pointing out the differences as I've only played it on the Wii U.
Those poochy levels look more fun than mario run
tough the same.
@King Savage uh why? What he said is true dude
If you are going for 100%, than it is very enjoyable.
If you’re looking for specifics from me, Mario Run and the Pooch levels in WW3DS are interchangeable for me.
mario run was too short imo
remix 10 doesn’t count in this cass
Legit getting this over the Wii U version because of the pattern designing.
Brionne Plus it's portable
Plus the Poochy Pups are the cutest things in the universe, hands down.
I'm getting it because it''s on a much better system in general in my opinion. Also makes that Yarn Yoshi theme released a while back more meaningful.
I'm getting the Wii U version because co op
AdNintendogs You just reminded me that I have that theme!
I like this game a LOT thanks to the DAISY AMIIBO SUPPORT!!!
memoryman3 Stop. Fucking. Stop.
Waheed Abdullah Probably Rosalina.
Liquid Mikael Stop trolling.
How do you have the stamina to post this everyday?
I agree with liquid, please fucking stop, also hypocrisy.
As a Yoshi fan myself, I would say if you liked the original Yoshi's Island, this is the best comparable game to it.
New island wasn’t bad
Yoshi's New Island was ok, it definitely could've been better, but it was ok.
What I love about Derrick's reviews is that he never puts optional features as a con that bogs down an experience like other reviewers do
I got this game and I'm super happy with it. It's great that the people who only have a 3DS (like me) don't miss out on this game. It's a lot of fun to play and Poochy is an awesome addition. Plus those movies were adorable.
Wool yoshi better be a skin in smash switch.
It's never happening but clay Kirby would be nice too
Wool Yoshi, Clay Kirby, Classic Sonic (Generations), Shiny Pokémon
ZoruaBoy98 also yarn kirby
Yarn Kirby wouldn't work
Now that I think about it, Clay Kirby doesn't work very well either...
Did you die during your play through from the cuteness??
"Is the port of Yoshi's Woolly World on 3DS just as good as the original? Or is Poochy just a bad dog? Find out in our review of Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World!"
I don't want Poochy to be a bad dog :'v

Zz Blast are you mlg?
Goku Black Lol idk
.....help me.... my body....is ready.....
Zz Blast Remember buddy, it is never ogre ;)
I'm fine with an HD port of that GameCube beat 'em up Shrek game. Was fun as hell when I was young.
The port is really good.
It's still a wonderful experience, no different from the original except for the lack of HD visuals. The extra features are nice, especially the custom yoshis!
Yoshi Craft World 2019
This reminds me of my Childhood! I played the Wii U version, now i am getting a 3DS to play it portable!
Great review as always, however, you can definitely buy power badges during a level on the Wii U version too. That's not a new addition.
Thanks for being so thorough on the new features...you answered all of the questions I had! Getting this at launch for sure :)
Just a quick note, you can use power badges mid-stage in the Wii U version as well.
Never bought it on the Wii U I'll definitely check this out! Also there's a demo for it on the 3ds eshop
in my opinion, the less detailed graphics actually make the whole yarn artstyle look better! and I also think that it is a good idea to port games from the wii u, so that people who don't want to buy a wii u (as the Internet says, a pretty bad console) can just play them on the 3ds or switch, both being much better consoles

Poochy has attained heaven.
I seriously don't know why I fell in love with this game so much on the Wii U. I already pre-ordered it for 3DS WITH the Poochy amiibo. I have all the Yarn Yoshi amiibos, including the Mega Yarn Yoshi! I love this game! 😂
"Look Yoshi, it's our new friend, Poochie!" "What's that name again? I forgot..."

I preordered this thing with the amiibo. That will be my first amiibo. Like the almost everyone . I didn't played the Wii U version. I'm very exited
What's that about the 3ds XL running at 60 fps? is that not the same on all "new" 3ds models including small one, please explain. thanks
Just picked this game up on my Wii U. Kinda wish I would have waited for the 3DS version. It would have been a little more expensive, but this is a game that just feels at home on a portable system to me.
I can design my own Yarn Yoshi?! Okay that alone just made me want this game even more!!
Great review Derrick! You actually have me on the fence on whether I should buy this! And I already own and love the WiiU version! Lol
You could still choose Power-Up Badges in the middle of levels in the Wii U version, Derrick.
3:00 super poochy run
Poochy runners
So 2017 is gonna be the year of 3DS ports of Wii U games.
and switch ports, hopefully
I just finished it on WiiU, so no point in buying it again on 3DS.. For now, at least. I might still buy it later this year. Just like with the Switch: Good things come to those who wait :)
Sawtje2 I'm saving up for it and Mario Odyssey!!!
I don't want to buy this game again, but I love the game and love the new features of new amiibo support and Yoshi customization. I wish they would update the Wii U game to add those features.
Wait. So which version is better 3ds ( i have a 2ds so idk if it will look as good as it did in the gameplay) or wii u. and is the power up new?
The 3ds. the graphics are downgraded, but it adds alot to the gameplay
I was planning to get this game with a yoshi yarn amiibo but don't know if the yoshi yarn amiibo is compatible (or can be used) in this game. Any answer?
yes, yarn Yoshi work whit the game

do they still have the whole tap the amiibo get the yoshi with the patch pattern?
I just bought the game for the wii u, but I REALLY want the poochy amiibo (1. My dogs name is poochy and it's SOOO adorable). I'm pretty sure the amiibo can only be bought with the game, but I just want the amiibo, what should I do? Also I feel like I'm missing ALOT from this game, Am I?
Are the amiibos necessary for playing the game?
I own both a Wii-U and an old 3DS. If I was to pick up Yoshi's Woolly World I would get the Wii-U version since I don't care about missing out on an auto runner mini-game, though no offence to the new poochey mode. While I like the Yoshi's Island games Woolly World isn't high on my list for next game to get, that would probably go to Pikmin 3 or Hyrule Warriors on Wii-U.
Wasn't it said that the Wii U version was getting an update that gets the 3DS features? Is that ever coming out?
The Wii U is dead.
wait power badges were able to be bought during a level on the wii u version too
I missed out on the original game, so I'm curious which of the two versions I should pick up. I'm not to worried about having it portable or not, I just want to know which would be a better first impression.

maximooo Thank you! I'll definitely consider that :)
Get whichever is cheapest...I'm assuming wiiu is like 20 dollars now.
Hijynx87 Where I live, they're both the same price sadly. Makes it all even harder to choose.
If this had come out a year ago, or had been ported to the Switch, I'd be more likely to buy it.
I will get this eventually. The demo was actually pretty fun and I haven't played a Yoshi game in years, lol just saying.
Is it still worth getting a 3DS now? I'm not sure if I should get one or not. Or which one I should even buy.
The 3DS has tons of games worth playing. I just got a new 3DS XL for Christmas after my old one was stolen. I would recommended a new 3DS or a new 3DS XL
You could already change badge during a stage o the wiiu version...
I wish they'd sell the Poochy amiibo separately, that thing's adorable! But if I were to get Woolly World, I'd want the Wii U version. I mean it's suuuch a good looking game on there that it feels like if I want the game, that's the one to get.
It only comes bundled? Weird, we can get the Poochy amiibo separately in Europe.
Yoshi sounds like Steve Urkel when he aims to shoot yarn.
''this is soothing'' not the level perls of the perplexing piramed
I have already played the Wii U version but this is a cool port!
With Mario maker 3DS I didn't feel like I was missing out since there was some new stuff but some stuff missing. I tried the demo and I do like it but I prefer the Wii U version
Lowkey want it just to also have a portable version 🤔 love the OG
I bought this game on Mercari for $20, I have the Wii U version as well. :)
I CAN MAKE MY OWN YOSHI??? SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY.
So I ain't gonna double dip this time. I'll just get the Poochy amiibo.
So, the Poochy levels are like Super Mario Run?
Kind of I guess. I saw them more like Super Mario Bros 2 Cannon Levels
You could buy badges mid-stage in the original too, that's not a new feature.
Really? You could? I never noticed. Mainly because I rarely used the badges except when I'm looking for something.
Diego Medina I'll keep an eye out for that, then, next time I play it.
Power badges could be bought in a level on the wiiu version on the poaze screen
hey guys, quick question. Do you guys think Nintendo will port over Wooly World to the Switch? B-but Gamexplain, the Wii U and 3DS versions costs the same... what version should i get, i don't understand!
*Obviusly the 3DS version*
I prefer Wii U for couch coop, graphics, and overall, I tend to enjoy the home console experience more - but that's just me.
The Wii U version costs 20 bucks more than 3DS version. Or has the price dropped?
Alexander Cabrera The 3ds version is more exspensove now
24-29 bucks on Wii U
40 on 3ds
Nice review, Derek.
Target accidentally had the game on the shelves early. Almost bought it. They wouldn't let me once they rang it up and realized what happened...
Great review derrick!
It's compactible with ammibo?
can you still summon another yoshi using a yarn yoshi amiibo?
I'm assuming all of the same features are there. 3ds does support amiibo, so I think it's safe to say yes.
I beat and got 100% completion on the Wii U version, and don't feel like it's necessary to get the 3DS version, imo.

Jake .06 I can't wait! I'm getting it on launch day! I still don't get why MK8 Deluxe isn't a launch title though; it looks pretty done.
TheDryGuy Probably just to not have a massive game drought.
Yeah, I guess so. Do you think they'll have a pre-release demo? I've been wondering.
I have a Wii U and a 3DS. Is it worth getting this version over the Wii U version?
SpotterX4 depends for people with no wii u they can finally experience the game but those who had a wii u it depends on which u play more
No. If you get this port and don't like Poochy, you're getting the exact same thing.
Im late but yes. The yoshi shorts, the pencil patches, the new content is awsome not to mention you can play this on the go
Nah, Yoshi's Island DS is easily the best Yoshi game since the original, heck maybe even better.

I'll get this one someday...
Can you put the game in 3d ?
I thought this game wasn't out yet...?

bro i use skin designers for minecraft i’m more than prepared to make my own yoshi let’s do this
But why are the piranha plants the only thing not yarn!!!!!!!!!!!??????????
a great option for people like me who like 3ds but dont care about nintendos consoles.
Why did I watch this review? I already have the Wii U version.
Is there local multiplayer?
no

Exactly. NSMB2 and DKCR3D had it.
Definitely getting this!!
YOU DIDN'T BUY POOCHY AMIIBO?! YOU MONSTER.
so this is exactly the same game as before just like donkey kong country returns 3d
At least it's THE SAME GAME, not just 1/4 of it just like Super Mario Online, i mean, Maker's port.
The same happens in the 2DS and 3DS versión of Poochy & YWW. In the NEW 3DS, the same game runs at 60fps instead. Therefore, only NEW 3DS owners get the closest thing to the original game (not counting the additions, those are for everyone)...
So it's Super Mario meets Donkey Konga
I love Poochy
This is actually BETTER then the wii u version
