WATER LILY Plant Growing Time Lapse - Bulb To Flower (63 Days)

  • Discover how a water lily plant is growing from a bulb to full blooming flowers in this time-lapse. The bulb was half covered in muddy soil contained with a bowl. Water was poured to fully submerge the bulb, simulating the natural muddy swamp. The plant was growing fast and developing lots of roots and lily pads. The first flower bud appeared around the 36th day and bloomed into a beautiful pink flower. After that, the plant output more buds and flowers. Each waterlily flower will bloom openly and collapse depending on the light/dark environment before wilting.

    Incredible how it is able to bring the leaves back onto the water surface and stopped doing that when there was no space on the water surface.

      Jane,
      Yes, algae was growing crazy, I had to clean it to see the plant. I leave 24 hours for making video. In general, you only need to turn the light on for 8 - 10 hours per day.

      May to September are best to grow outdoors.

    what variety/cultivar did you use in this video? was it Perry's Baby Red? and what type of light did you use?

      Yes. It was a Perry's Baby Red. We used a 36W GE grow light.

      They open at the morning and close at the evening for a few days before wilting.

      ​@@st0n3p0nyRed tiger lotus sold in stores or online shops are very vague though.
      Some are 'Zenkerii', 'Rubra', or 'Alba' or even hybrids so we can't really tell.

      @@st0n3p0ny also, includes 'Stellata'.
      Although Nymphaea Stellata is sold as Red Tiger Lotus, it's obvious it's a Stellata because of it's spear like tip. I have it in my aquarium, never grows big.

    In timelapse it almost looks like an animal. Like an Octopus or snake at times doing things, aranging leaves etc.
