In a world where there are no instruments, Pentatonix are there to save the state of music. Choose from any of your 5 favorite singers and Play Pentatonix 2: Revenge of the Overtunes on your NES this Christmas.
Their arrangements really are perfect for the NES sound hardware capabilities. Five members of the group, five polyphonic channels on the NES. Given, the NES only has three 'tone' channels with noise and synth (both used for percussion) while the group has four 'tones' and one beat boxer, but it gets the job done. It just means implementing some fun tricks!
I've posted some "how it's made" info for other similar projects in the past. Here's one for my 8-Bit Dr. Horrible animation series: www.doctoroctoroc.com/8-bit-dr-horrible/making.html That should give some insight into the process for this one.
WOW!!! That was AWESOME!!!! That faithfully kept true to the Pentatonix medley and video. The 8-Bit sounding music was amazing. The pixel art was awesome, you made the pictures look almost like the real people. Keep up the AMAZING work!
Best 8bit remix I've heard in a while, done to one of the best songs I've ever heard. 10/10 would be up all night for the good fun of listening to this on repeat :D
sunny barnard It got enough, and Scott Hoying tweeting it and following me on Twitter definitely made it well worth it! I'm only bummed that other members of the group didn't tweet it but I'm sure one or more of them saw it at some point.
Ferro Ignique I'm contemplating it. I didn't want to barrage their Twitter account with too many fan animations too close to each other haha. But I have started laying down a track for Love Again so it will be the next one I upload if I end up doing another.
Lol, it's not my full time job! I wish it was! I'm about 1/4 through making the track but don't hold your breath, I have other work keeping me busy these days.
In theory, perhaps. It just wouldn't look as smooth - various sprites and parts of them would be choppy on the actual hardware. The music was made with an actual NES so that's a given, but I did extend the color limits a tad. The limited color palette for the NES was used for the graphics but the NES probably couldn't technically handle so much going on at once, and the animation sprites were typically limited to four colors, so if multiple sprites were used for each character, it might be doable. The character sprites in the classic Mega Man games used an extra sprite for the eyes - which is why you see it blinking away here and there.

hahahahahaha
+John Van Haneghan That could actually work as a real commercial!
I imagined reading this in an epic trailer voice! lol
With rockapella as a pre-order bonus
John Van Haneghan e
So cool. The whole time while listening I was imagining playing a Pentatonix RPG that I wish was a thing that existed.
I'm on it.
lmrelm im adding a skin option as an easter egg to my game that features these guys... how could i not?
lmrelm So this is the character select screen? have fun getting the character you want with all the movement of the characters.

Love the arrangement. The sound was amazing and the texture of it. You really made it sound like the pentatonix and that's a huge compliment to them

hyygggg
I swear I had an eargasm.
I can literally see this as being a track that plays at the main menu of an 8 bit game. It probably would have been a classic in gaming too.
This is amazing!! I hope Pentatonix sees this!
They did, I tweeted at Scott Hoying and he started following me :-D that was great to wake up to the next morning!
Ashley Cowan lol
DoctorOctoroc Are you f*cking serious?
Surely I can't be the only one imagining that this remix + Pentatonix as the characters would be a great mod of the NES Megaman games?
I could just listen to the first 35 seconds of this song forever its so good sounding!!!
I'm jealous of that pixel art all I can do is hand draw, play games, cook (kinda), sleep, walk and watch videos FAN FLIPPING TASTIC!
kimyina :3 u
this, people, is what you call an 8-bit cover :) i'm so happy i found you
This is quite possibly the raddest thing I've ever heard!
This is awesome, well done!
I hope Pentatonix actually watches this at some point, I think they would be flattered.
this is so amazing
kirstie's smile would've been more accurate if curved a liiitle more to one side tho xD
That is my one regret lol.
Seriously, she and Natalie Dormer should have a smirk-off
E Holc I'd pay to see that.
DoctorOctoroc Me too, mate. Me too.
+Abby Gaby its weird how her smile does that
This came out pretty good. I love 8-bit/16-bit styled remixes. Then again, I absolutely love that era of gaming.
Favourite game of that era?
Jacob Parsons Probably Earthworm Jim or Starfox.
Is this what they would look like if they were in a video game? That is what we need, a Pentatonix video game! :)
"Absolutely not."
- Simon Cowell
Too fun! Would love to see a behind the scenes of how you put this together...

Loved it! I also loved the original and Penatonix's cover, but I really must say it really works with the NES sounds.
I feel like this was a storyboard mockup of the actual vid and got this made to visualize how it would look before shooting

Wow, that is fantastic, I just wonder if this would be able to be really played on a real NES,
