Jelly Roll was in a gang & spent 5 years in prison. Got out at 23 & started doing hip hop & rap stuff. Now he has been welcomed by the country community. He says he knows who his audience is & who he is writing for. He is trying to reach people struggling like he did. He just played a concert a week ago, here in the jail in Flint, Michigan for the inmates. That being said, you have not been educated on country if you think it is all sad. There are patriotic inspirational songs like Toby Keith's 'Courtesy of the red, white & blue'. There are party songs by every country artist, like Brad Paisley's 'I'm still a guy' or 'I'm gonna miss her' (FYI, he isn't) Sam Hunt & 'Body like a backroad' is awesome, Walker Hayes has fun songs like 'Fancy like' & 'AA'. Luke Combs 'When it rains it pours' (hilarious video), Kenny Chesney, 'When the sun goes down', Luke Bryan 'One margarita', 'Country girl shake it for me', 'Play it again', 'But I got a beer in my hand' Blake Shelton's 'Boy's round here' & I could go on & on with thousands of artists & fun songs. Your closed mind will make you miss a lot in life. To make a broad statement to not like country music is silly. They country styles are like apples & oranges & the variety within the genre is amazing. Some are pure traditional stuff like you hate, then there is some that has a hip hop edge, or a rap edge etc. Country music has evolved & so should you. You're awfully young to be so closed minded. You're only cheating yourself.

Every song young man tells a story good, bad, and indifferent. Songs like that reflect any person's life as they grew up and what they have experienced. That is how songs are made!

The OOOOLLDDD Joke is - "If you play a Country Song backwards you get your Wife, your Truck, and your Dog back! 😂
PS - Country (& Western) Music was where Blues Music was derived from so that's why Country and Blues are usuallyso sad. Blues uses the same 12 bar pattern, usually with a "turn around" and uses the same basic Chird Progression Pattern (for any fellow Musicians the I(1), IV(4), and V(5) Chords)

The reason country music is always so sad is because most country songwriters use it as a form of therapy to get out their sadness of their life. There’s awful lot of country that also is just good and fun. Have you ever heard of red Solo cup that was just one example.

2:09 its more of a song on recovery and change and the ups and downs on that path of change its still a little sad tho. But like you said you're not into country music and easy to be misinterpreted nowadays, God bless

If you've only heard sad country songs, you haven't heard enough country music. Shania Twain, Brooks & Dunn, Big & Rich, Toby Keith, to name a few who have some very fun, upbeat songs.

I love your reactions and your art too. You do absolutely amazing work. I think you would really love some stuff by Upchurch. He has some stuff with Adam Calhoun, Jelly Roll and Tom MacDonald. Him and Adam HOOLIGAN. Then his song POND CREEK ROAD (not country). Upchurch and Jelly Roll VOWS. Then his songs PEOPLES CHAMP and HOLLER BOYS cause you'll like them. I don't pumpkin spice or cowboy hats either. Have a great one😀

One of the most dangerous lies people believe in life is that they are alone, it’s songs like this that are written to show you that not only are you not alone, but someone else went through the things that you’ve been through and made it out the other side. Jelly Roll wrote this album as a praise and worship album for sinners. Sometimes people need to figure out where they are before they can figure out where they need to go.

I don't know if it's good for a reaction due to the length, but I would highly recommend checking out jelly's first viral video on youtube " jelly roll 10 minute freestyle".
It was how i discovered him a decade ago as a gangster rapper fresh out of prison. I've gone back and listened to that video a couple times a year since i first found it.

I'm from Nashville and have always hated country music too. Bluegrass makes me absolutely nauseous. I'll always be a head-banger till the day I die. Like you, I do have respect for Jelly Roll as a person and his videos with his family just living life are fun to watch.
