Old Composer REACTS to Incubus
Do more incubus. Such a criminally underrated band. Everyone mostly knows them for radio jams, but their deep cuts are where they really shine. One of the best live bands I've ever seen as well. MORE INCUBUS.
Thissss. I love them so much and everyone needs to experience them!
Agreed...
100% john way underrated ...live there amazing
Agreed
@@alrose6915 What are they doing now? I always liked them a lot.
Give 'A Certain Shade of Green' from S.C.I.E.N.C.E. a go - absolute banger 🤘🏻
Love the entire album, and that's arguably my favorite track
^ This.
‘Glass’ would be my favorite track off S.C.I.E.N.C.E. But CSoG is killer as well.
S.C.I.E.N.C.E. is fantastic from beginning to end. First time I ever heard Incubus was a festival in 1999, and they were playing mostly songs from that album. I was hooked immediately. I've seen Incubus probably 7-8 times, and actually hung out with them backstage in '01. Unfortunately, I feel they'll really lost their way after A Crow Left Of The Murder.
The song that got me in to Incubus!
The album "Make Yourself" dropped at a very key point in my life. The title track was a gut punch, one of the initial sonic catalysts that makes me who I am today. To all of ya out there, Make Yourself.
Same man. Right outta high school and Bam this hits like Mike Tyson, right in the face. What a great time for music the 90's were.
This was kind of right on the cusp
Heard Incubus for the first time when they opened for Primus just before this album dropped. I was blown away, best opening act I have ever seen. This track still gets me every time, love it.
Make yourself remains one of the top 10 most influential albums in my life
I can relate, this album and Morning View were so meaningful to me throughout my late teens/early twenties... all the memories and angst of those “growing up” years is brought back through this music. Never fails to amaze me that music has the power to feel so personal and yet so unifying through the shared experiences of others.
S.C.I.E.N.C.E. is literally one of the best albums of all time. Everything on that album is gold.
These videos rule 🤟
Agreed, definitely in my top 10.
100% agree.
Too bad they don’t play Songs off S.C.I.E.N.C.E. that often. I’ve seen them 4 times and I’ve only heard New Skin and Vitamin live.
S.C.I.E.N.C.E and morning view are their best albums in my opinion. Different ends of the spectrum but very well done. Fungus amongus was alright, Make yourself was kind of trying to fit a square peg into a round hole catering to the skateboarding kids, a crow left of the murder was meh and light grenades was non climatic for me although somewhat catchy. After those I stopped listening, but I still dig out the others relatively often.
Nothing but facts here.
Aight I'm convinced you have a direct line to the playlist on my PC.
Dude same
Same, same 😆
Who would say that there are still some connaisseurs around in this day and age...
Seriously, the audioslave, tool, System of a Down and other bangers he’s been doing have been sweet
Yep here 2...I'm not alone. Lol
Make Yourself is a killer album. Not a single weak track & let it play
One of the few albums I play beginning to end with zero skips. It's perfect.
one of those rare albums that's literally great start to finish... not too many albums I can say that about...
I respect Make Yourself but I love S.C.I.E.N.C.E
Facts.
@@HiddenHandMedia This is the way.
Incubus “The Warmth”
That was my favorite 20 years ago
Live Morning View Sessions of course😉
100%
my fav track of theirs
Hell yeah
@@perhvarnes same and still listen regularly
"The Warmth" by Incubus is to this day a song that I can listen to at anytime. Off the same album which I contend is their best not that the others aren't great.
Prettiest song they ever recorded.
Such a great song
that's the one with the sort of whale sounds in the beginning yes? it's been awhile since I've listened to "make yourself," so I just wanna double check... but if it's the song I'm thinking of, it's one of my favorites by incubus in general.
@@jillybeangaming thats the one!
Such a good song, definitely give The Warmth a listen
I love that you are recognizing Mike as the great guitarist that he is. He’s so incredibly underrated.
When I listen to Incubus, so do my neighbors. PAAAARDON MEEEEE WHILE I BURST INTO FLAMES
My favorite band. They’re INSANELY eclectic. Some people don’t realize that because their biggest songs are usually straight forward pop rock songs, but they came up as pretty much brother bands with Deftones and System of a Down. Those guys all came up together. Incubus touches on rock, pop, metal, jazz, prog, electronic, and even Chinese Traditional music! Their guitarist went to Harvard to study music theory and has worked extensively with Hans Zimmer on movie scores. Check out Sick Sad Little World. If you want something really wild, check out their prog epic they made for the Halo soundtrack. It’s 4 different movements of Mike being an absolute creative wizard with the guitar.
They were my teenage band and got me into eclectic music. Then I graduated onto Mr Bungle, Faith No More etc which totally influenced Incubus. Now I'm into Ween, Talking Heads and Primus. The list goes on.
Sick Sad Little World is my favorite, as a looong time listener of them, it's so damn good.
Most of the ambient stuff is guitars, their guitarist is legit.
Their drummer is sick af too
His kit is ridiculous. Reminds me of Brain's setup
i loooooove the acoustic versions of songs. the chord choices are crazy, ive been playing for over 20 years and still get tripped up with some of the finger positions for their chords.
Drive is one of the hardest songs to play I've tried so far. The chords are just so weird
@@Zander_Schilling I feel ya on that. I learned how to play new skin pretty quick even though some of it has some unorthodox chord voicings with the finger placement but yeah mike plays some chords that aren't used much in rock music and they sound perfect.
@@Rtapley89 yeah, Mike is almost like a Jazz guitarist deciding to do alternative rock. I love his chord choices and ambient tones.
Make Yourself was one of the biggest sonic influences I had as an adolescent. It blew open the doors to multiple genres that I had never encountered growing up in a Country/Christian music household. Will forever cherish this album.
Are you me?
It would be great if you could check out some of their tracks from Morning View, perhaps Just A Phase or Aqueous Transmission!
Goodness i do like me Aqueous Transmission
Aqueous or Under My Umbrella would be sweet
Omg yes, that album is still in my top 100 and I listen to everything from jazz to heavy metal so it takes a damn good album to make that list
I forgot Just a Phase
Battlestar Scratchalactica would also be nice :]
Mike einziger The guitarist is largely underrated that man makes some awesome ambient sounds like the ones you hear in the background on this track. It's cool because on some songs he works with the DJs samples on his guitar with the plethora of effects pedals he uses and allows the bass guitar and drums to take center stage..to me that makes him coming back in with the heavy riffs just that much more hard hitting💪
Incubus is a good one, stellar great song by them as well.
Waiting on VICARIOUS tho
“Summer Romance (Anti Gravity song) is one of my favorite Incubus songs. Jazzy, rocky, a little bit of everything . Jose Pasillas is in my top 3 of drummers❤️💜
I've been WAITING for Incubus!!! Listen to everything dude!! Love you! Keep it up!!!
Ya almost no one does them and they are missing out
Definitely should keep exploring 'Incubus' as a whole. One of those bands where everyone is a gifted musician.
Beyond being one of the best mixes Ive ever heard on a song, that band will be heard for the next 50+ years, and every generation that hears them will say they were COMPLETELY underrated!!!
Incubus was the band we didn't deserve.
They’re volume swells that einsinger does, so everything’s on guitar. So much talent. Sick dad little world, a lot of the background stuff is the dj too when they play live at least. And of course Mike E, absolute beast
Mike absolutely kills it in Sick Sad Little World. Definitely would want you to dig into the Incubus discography like you did with Tool.
Sick Sad Little World is perhaps Incubus' greatest song ever. Even better than anything on S.C.I.E.N.C.E.....and that album slaps like hell.
Heh
Dig

@@lipayy9852 I think you may be onto something.
A Crow Left of the Murder, Rogues, Anna Molly, Sick Sad Little World, 11am...and yes, The Warmth.
I've seen over 100 bands live and Incubus is one of the best live bands I have ever seen.
Ditto!
You've gotta give "A certain shade of green" a listen, also, the singer, Brandon Boyd, is in my opinion a massively underrated singer. You hear it a lot more in some of the newer things but he's really got a solid, solid voice.
The musicianship of Incubus is amazing. You should definitely look into their older stuff from the first 2 albums.
Incubus is one of my ALL-TIME FAVORITE bands. They are the band that got me into the music i love.
This band is amazing. They sound amazing live.
They have such great sounds
Aqueous Transmission n Loneliest are 2 to songs to put your ears to work.
Saw them at a lollapalloza one year with janes addiction, audioslave, and queens of the Stone Age. Amazing live show !!
I am so envious of you, I bet that was epic
I did too! I Phoenix. It was the second time I’d seen them. In Phoenix, in place of Queens of the Stone Age, it was A Perfect Circle though
@@heighleybaily8037 I was their with my husband at the time. He used to give me shit about my music. Some of his comments were: is it weird if I say how good looking he is ??
No dear it’s Chris cornell everyone thinks he’s beautiful ☺️ then perry was on stage with 4/5 women scantily clad dancing and he was in leather pants no shirt and all over the stage. He said “Theres so much going on I don’t know what to look at first.” Lol then incubus. He kept saying “oh I know this song “ I said see my music isn’t shit, you’ve been listening to it on the radio and you didn’t even know. I had such a migraine towards the end from screaming so much, but I just couldn’t stop. It was truly amazing.
One of my favourite bands ever!!
The Guitarist, Mike Einziger, has pedals he's swelling in and out during the verses. He get's crazy inventive with his pedals (he has a whole pedal array he calls the "Gonkulator") DJ Killmore does more scratching in this song, but he does do loops in some songs and also plays the keyboard.
This album in particular, the snare sound just has SO much attack, and the immediate airi-ness to it.. I LOVE the snare sound in this album.
DUDE. You HAVE to do more Incubus. These guys will take you on a ride.
A recommendation for a follow up would be "Dig" by Incubus, but you would also need to have the lyrics. His voice and the emotion of the song based on the lyrics are just incredible. Love the channel, keep it going!
Loving this 90s alt journey you've been taking lately!
Yeah, more Incubus! A very talented and professional band, loved them for years.
I'm so glad you're getting to Incubus. My suggestions for next songs to cover not in any order.
Sick sad little world (alive at red rocks version), Pendulous Threads, Aqueous Transmission, and the 3 different versions of their song Redefine. (Original, acoustic, and the rendition by their side project Time Lapse Consortium - this one song shows their progression as musicians through out these versions.)
OH AND ECHO!
Wish You Were Here will give you ocean vibes.
Never fully appreciated incubus till I saw them live for their morning view tour. These guys are fukn legit! Absolutely amazing musicians, great show! Been a huge fan ever since.
Both Deftones and Slipknot also have a DJ in the band.
Wow, I didn't know that - thank you!
And linkin park, limp bizkit, everlast... Part of those times =D
I was totally gonna mention Slipknot after hearing the opening comments here... You're forgiven, though, considering Sid sometimes gets lost with everything the other 7 of them are doing 😂
@@Spitx I am pretty sure Geebz hasn't reacted to them yet though.
I think the best band to listen where DJ is recognizable and makes a big difference in a song is Linkin Park. Sid from Slipknot is awesome, but they also have Craig doing samples and keyboards, where Hahn from LP does everything alone
Please do more from these guys! They're my absolute favorite band and their catalog is massive! Their sound evolves with each album and I HIGHLY recommend you check out the warmth from make yourself and megalomaniac from the album a crow left of the murder.
Incubus, 311, and Tool. My favorite bands
Literal GOAT band for me. Brandon and Incubus have helped shape and define me into the person I am today.
Thanks for the reaction. Incubus is one of my favorite bands. This album and video was the beginning of more woman going to shows. Before this it was mostly guys. I did not mind that at all.
My wife and her friends all love Incubus as well. We went to the 20 year anniversary tour of the album this song is from , Make yourself in 2019. They played the album from start to finish. Hoping they will do the same for Morning View.
What I love about Incubus is that they have progressed with each album as they have aged. Some bands just keep trying to recreate their first album.
Please react to Vitamin, The Warmth, Rogues, Pantomine, 11 AM or Karma, Come Back.
Incubus is fantastic.. So many great songs.. More Incubus please..
No matter what style of music they are performing it's done with thought, care, and passion. Love every album (8 is a little weak but still great!) Truly one of the great bands during this generation
Please do "Sick Sad Little World" if you decide to revisit Incubus!
This. This so much.

a great song...."Drive" next perhaps?
Incubus was the first band I saw live. I love them! I really hope you react to Coheed and Cambria!
Coheed all day, Incubus for life
@Ryan I got screwed out of that concert aswell in SLC 1999 Black Sabbath reunion tour..freakin ozzy "got sick" and cancelled TWICE!!...if i remember Rob Zombie and Godsmack were on that tour aswell..
I added Coheed and Cambria to my list a couple weeks ago. But what would be the best song to start with?
@@KeyOfGeebz Gravemakers & Gunslingers is killer.
@@KeyOfGeebz keeping secrets of silent earth 3, or the crowing. Most would suggest welcome home, but while it's a great song, I think keeping secrets has more depth musically, at least in my opinion... Plus most who do welcome home end up listening/reacting to the video which cut out half the intro and outro. Mahalo Geebz! Can't wait for Coheed, we are one among the fence!!!!
Woohoo! First time you've hit on one of my top 3. Incubus, genre-bending, self empowerment tunes. LOVE them.
Incubus are one of my favorite bands.. such a great back catalogue of music so many great tracks to get into... Great song ..
So funny, I recently started re-listening to Incubus in the last few weeks. They were a huge part of my junior high days, funny how Geebz just happened to get into them now :)
This album still resonates with me today.
Incubus musically are just brilliant bass fat smooth melodic, drums on point technical, guitar effects chords are just sick, he figures out a way to say ok this is A D G what notes can I add to the chord to make it unique and sound different!! U get funky ass chords learning there music…. Chords u don’t see anywhere… and sounds !! And the DJ is wicked good and just suits them so much!! Underrated band they really are!!!
I love their stuff. Mike Einzinger's guitar work is incredible.
There's a reason Incubus is one of the only 90s alternative bands anybody still likes. You should check out Jose Pasillas's drum clinic where he plays over a live recording of Sick Sad Little World.
I think I was a Junior or Senior in High School when this first came out. This song will never get old.
Under my umbrella, one of my all time favs🤙.
This band is amazing live, Branden is also so underrated
the perils of being in 3d ....has there ever been a more apt description of life?? BB is a god-tier level songwriter, singer and just all-around musical talent and incubus is the most influential band in my life ...science is top 5 albums all time for me
Pardon me while I burst into fangirling mode! I was just in High School when their first album S.C.I.E.N.C.E. came out and me & my friends were immediately addicted! We ended up seeing them live at the Metro in Chicago, it was their first tour ever and you could tell.. Not music wise because they killed it but by how they acted. Their lead singer was absolutely blown away at the reception they got and kept telling the crowd how appreciative they all were. I was standing literally 5 feet away from them, I think they played with System of a Down that night, those were the daysss.. And back then, we were all convinced they would blow up because of their song Summer Romance and they eventually did! To be honest, after they reached commercial success, after their second album their music didn't feel the same to me anymore. Maybe it's just me, but I don't think it is, after SCIENCE they weren't the same band anymore! So I suggest and plead that you go back and listen to their first album and break it down because to me it's a masterpiece and they never came close to that album again as far as I'm concerned! But please listen to songs like Redefine, Vitamin, New Skin & Idiot Box! Hell, listen to the entire album loud and tell me I'm not right about everything I've said sofar! I remember driving around, blasting this album pretty much nonstop! I highly recommend it, to this day, this album is in my top 10 of all time! So please please please go and listen to SCIENCE next! 🙏
PS. NEBULA, Deep Inside & Calgone are the songs that demonstrate their variety & potential! Don't get me wrong, I'm so happy for their success, it feels like my own child making it big! I just dreamed even bigger for them I guess and feel like they never reached their true potential as a band for whatever reason. My joke was always that after that album, they got ABDUCTED by little green men and replaced by their vanilla doubles.. Its just been a lifetime mystery to me what happened to the band from that album. Not saying Make Yourself is bad, I dig it, it's just not S.C.I.E.N.C.E! I wish they did a remaster of it, for the 25th anniversary next year or something? That album deserves it! Anyway, sorry for rambling, just love them and needed to get it off my chest! /rant
Incubus... Dig, Promises Promises, Into the Summer
Incubus is elite
These guys were in their early twenties when this came out. In some of their early tracks you can tell they multi-tracked live, not bothering to remove some artistic bleed. Definitely worth checking out tracks like; Calgone, Nebula, While all the Vultures Feed, Quicksand, Sick Sad Little World, Pistola, Makeout Party, and the Odyssey collection. Their DVD from Red Rocks Colorado, 2004 is one of the coolest live shows I've seen. I'm also a big fan so maybe bias.
"Stellar" is one of my favorite songs by them. It's a beautiful album!
Please do more Incubus. They are one of the most unique bands of their Era where every album they evolve but still retain an authenticity of who they are throughout. The album Morning View is a top 5 desert island album. Right up there with Led Zeppelin IV, Allman Bros at Fillmore east, Dark Side of the Moon, and Metallica S&M
Keep doing Incubus!!!!
Some of the best live shows I’ve ever seen INCUBUS
I remember seeing incubus open for 311 way back when. What a great night
Saw these guys for the first time in 2002 in Duluth, MN. Absolutely brilliant show! I left with more sweat on me from other people than my own. I remember walking outside after the concert and we were all freezing in the cold October air. Man I miss college.
The bass guitar is so forward in this song.
Incubus is my favourite band, I have followed them for about 20 years. Listen to them everyday. This has brought me so much joy this morning 😁 Also so great to read all the lovely comments from other Incubus fans. We are the best 😄

I'm a little late to the party, but I feel I need to share this. Incubus was involved in the "Halo 2" videogame soundtrack. They did around four instrumental compositions I think. It will blow your mind lol. Also the literal best live recording I have ever watched is "Incubus: Alive At Red Rocks 2004"
Aloha! Another great breakdown! I'm sure others are already letting you know that the band Deftones you have reacted to a couple of times actually has a DJ, too. His contributions are more subtle atmosphere sampling and synth pads as opposed to record scratching. Might I suggest a song from the album "El Cielo" by Dredg for a future breakdown? It's another benchmark in rock engineering and production from the early 2000s. "Same Ol' Road," "Triangle," "Of the Room," "Whoa Is Me," and "The Canyon Behind Her" are all excellent choices for a decomposing. Just about any song you pick from that album will have a ton of depth to wade through, even the short instrumental "Brushstrokes" as they're called. Cheers!
These guys got me through the last year... Thank you. Enjoy
One of the most exciting live bands. Hope we can see live music, soon. Have a nice couple days away from us, your new fans! See you again, soon
Geebz, what a pleasure this one was. Im an orignal Tool Army guy but also a musician who grew up playing drums in the late 90’s to today and this song was one to BLAST for sure! Thanks so much for the listen and analysis of some of the nuances. Great stuff as always. It’s always fun as hell to see what song you upload next. By far my favorite content creator on youtube. My next smokes to you good sir! Aloha!

Awesome to see you doing some Incubus! Check out Into The Summer, Stellar, Dig, & Wish You Were Here by them
Huge fan man!! Just checked out your reactions and I'm amazed at the diffrent types of music your listening to. From incubus to shpongle, to polyphia to heavy metal. I'm very impressed with your open mindedness. I feel like we're a rare breed
The lead singer of this band has a band now called "The Sons of the Sea" and they have an INCREDIBLE 4 song EP called "The Compass" and I think you'd really enjoy that. It holds a special place in my heart. The opening track "Space and Time" is really something else, a real experience, "Come Together" is a jam that flows really nicely, and "Where all the Songs Come From" is wondrous atmospheric vibe that really just draws you in completely. "Lady black" is a somber and fluid composition. If I really had to choose, the Opening song and Where all the Songs Come From are the best. Hope you love it, as you seem to love music that makes you feel a certain way. Hell yeah, sorry for the rambling
Edit: And as much as people love Incubus, I haven't really met anyone who has heard this band

That whole album is great. Their songwriting and Brandon’s voice really shine on those songs.
Was hoping to see this posted here! The song, and the album, are so beautiful. It's always bugged me how little love that album gets when compared to their other stuff. I love SCIENCE, but sometimes you just need some chill ballads too lol
@@LoganFreund agreed, me and my friends got into them when make yourself was released and my the time crow left of a murder came out I was the only one who still listened to them. Me and the wife had if not now? For our wedding song.
every time I catch up I see you're listening to a song/band I know well. Man I would not have started with a such a radio type song. SCIENCE would be the album to show you. Great work my man, you're very appreciated:)
Dude you're becoming one of my favorite youtube channels, between your explanations, your mannerisms and your voice, and your incredible knowledge, it's all ~chefs kiss~
the tone of the guitar is done by pedals and delay but the main thing to know is that mike used to play with PRS and MESA BOOGIE and uses volume delays. He mutes his guitar while giving the strings a stroke and then uses volume knobs on the guitar to release the sound. he pretty much plays beats in advance of the beat itself. A little bit like Tom Morello does. On the latest albums he doesn't play with this technique anymore. I hope it makes sense. Peace
I love Incubus! They are incredible live. Their drummer, Jose Pasillas, has clear influences from Stewart Copeland. Their covers of The Police songs are spot on.
Man I’d love if you could do a breakdown for their song “Love Hurts”. It’s one of those tracks for me that I will never get tired of hearing. Used to hear it on the radio almost every other day on my way to school when I was in middle school, and it’s always kinda stuck with me.
Incubus is a very vocally driven band. I mean the vocals seem to drive the track and the instruments play around them.
Geebz, you've done it again with another one of my high school memories! I appreciate everything you do with these reactions! I may be many miles away but damn everytime you react to a song to my life soundtrack, makes it seem like you were part of my highschool years. Thank you geebz.
True story: just before these guys got big, I saw them open for 311, McNichols Arena, Denver, CO in like 1998. Booed off the stage after like a 15 min bongo solo. Dude must have been stoned. XD Turns out they're actually pretty good.
These guys are sorely underrated. Been jamming together since they were 15. Yes, they hit it big with their poppier sounding stuff, but their musicianship is insane and so much fun to appreciate. Also, they were my last live show Nov 2019. They did a 20th anniversary tour celebrating Make yourself (album this song is on). They sounded exactly like they did 20+ years ago. Even better. Mike is the guitarist and has some of the craziest chord choices and solos. Brandon’s a bit of a narcissist, but super kind and it bodes well as his voice hasn’t aged at all. Hope for more! Lots more incubus!
Deftones technically have a DJ, although Change is the only song you've done where he used turntables.
i would LOVE to see him cover a deftones song... i would recommend it myself, but I can't decide which song.. too many amazing tracks to choose from..
@@jillybeangaming he already did Change and Passenger.
He did Change, Passenger, and Sextape. But I won’t complain if he does more!!
Frank NIT uses turntables on almost everything. He uses them the same way they used to use tape to do musique concrete but uses keyboards now a lot more than he did originally in the band
lol I knew someone would bring up Deftones
