    Later that night when "Who wants to be a millionaire" aired, Norm was the final contestant on that episode. He declared that he was going to donate his winnings to medical research and he was on the million dollar question and knew the answer but was unsure and ended up opting to take the $500,000 guaranteed instead. He was an amazing man.

    • @j-rey-
      @j-rey- Год назад +9

      He was unsure, but he did in fact say the right answer, then said "final answer," but Regis didn't actually take that as a final answer like the rules dictate. He instead continued to press Norm and psyche him out, leading him to doubt his answer enough to opt for the half million instead. Regis got a lot of sh*t for essentially scamming him out of the $1 million, and I am inclined to believe that the network told Regis to be as obstinate as possible in order to prevent any contestant from winning the million. Why would a network want someone taking $1 million dollars from them? At the very least, Regis was trying to make dramatic TV by making Norm doubt himself, because initially, Norm kept his cool, took everything very casually, and gave his educated guess within a reasonable amount of time. Regis couldn't have that. The audience at home wanted to see Norm sweat a little.

    • @josh-kf2rd
      @josh-kf2rd Год назад +3

      @@j-rey- Norm didn't say final answer. Regis chimed in before he could. Regis was nervous because he knew Norm didn't know the answer and was making his best guess at the risk of $470k. Norm made the mistake of getting psyched out because he believed Regis had the correct answers in front of him despite Regis telling him several times that he did not.
      Also, the million dollar prize was insured, so it would have been less costly for them if he got the answer correct.

    Him destroying the view through weaponized incompetence was the funniest thing I’ve seen.

    • @noandno9144
      @noandno9144 7 месяцев назад +1

      you can only call it weaponized incompetence if your idea of competence is going along with what the hens expect. for example, you could try to say the whole phone thing was weaponized incompetence, but, in reality, it was a lame idea that the producer of a womens daytime tv talk show thought would be funny so he tried to foist it onto one of comedies greatest minds and norm simply declined to try to polish that particular turd on live tv. ironically, it was exactly this casual tearing the thing open to expose its inner workings while tossing it in the trash that injected some small amount of humor into the lame phone skit idea. none of what norm did there was even the pretense of incompetence. if anything, this was a masterclass of competence in the form of weaponized non-compliance and these are exactly the type of people who cant cope with anything that doesnt actively conform to their expectations.
      disclaimer: i know its 4 months later and i dont mean to be contrarian, i just happened to see your comment and it got my wheels turning. on the whole: yeah bro that shit was funny, by God.

    • @pablosonic892
      @pablosonic892 День назад

      @@vhscopyofseinfeld yeah, comics were all in the know on Cosby so Norm being full method troller 24/7 every waking hour of his life I think was playing the long game with the Cosby stuff. Like he knew in the moment the set up stuff hyping him up, emphasizing repeatedly how great a man he was and never had a single accusation levied against him wouldn't get anything in real time at the moment, but if the Cos's secret sexual assault crimes ever got exposed, it's like he purposely already laid the ground work for these planted seeds to be ready for a full blown comedy harvest decades down the road later making Norm look more like a NORMstradamus, if you know what I mean. Y'know, on account he like seemingly prophesied Cosby's downfall and all. It appears all the more evident by the way in how he keeps goading Barbara into answering his very leading questions, getting her on record to commit to publicly confirming for all prosperity that she agrees thinking Cosby is a great man, but this den of cackling hens even managed to interrupt Barbara before she could answer, therefore robbing us thirty years fast forward to the future of now and the pleasure of watching a clip on endless loop where Bab's would've been on film saying she endorsed history's longest running successful serial rapist who sexual assault spree went years and years, spanning decades undetected with hall of fame numbers when you factor in his peerless unbroken criminal win streak amongst all his other historical accomplishments and career accolades. That's like having a perfect season, but every season, for forty straight years without coming close to taking an L. That's a first ballot hall of famer right there. Unanimous. If the Coopertown inductions were for most heinous despicable vile hot garbage of a person with crimes against humanity and sexual degradation against women. Cosby would be a shoe-in! And Barbara Wa-Wa would['ve been his biggest female celebrity supporter and endorser with journalistic street cred. Yeah, now that's even funnier a joke than Norm's lifelong commitment to gaslighting the world his every waking moment on the planet. The idea of calling Walter's a journalist. Bwahahahaha. Good one.

Also the producer of the show had been trying to get him to do the phone thing for weeks which he thought was a silly idea and the guy kept calling him about it days before the interview. They put the phone in his pocket right before, so he just ruined the whole thing.

Norm said it was great to make people laugh, but even better to make them smile. A genuine smile is an act of intentional reflection whereas a laugh is involuntary, an almost unthinking reflex. Norm was going for the solitary smile in the midst of the ocean of spiteful stares. How amazing is that?!?

    There will never be another Norm Mcdonald. That smile meant chaos. He was going to say something and you never know what he's going to say.
