Not liking her, but since he has to live with her and go to school with her, he hides the hate and tolerates her. He did nothing wrong up to this point.

@@jenniferhuff4895 She only heard half the conversation. When he rejects the other girl, and she asks if it is because of the FL, he starts off saying bad things about the FL. He is describing how he felt when she first showed up in his life. FL then runs off not wanting to hear more. But then he says as he got to know the FL.... and says a bunch of nice things about her, because that is how he feels now.
