She didn't actually wanted to?! The ML (Boy) did not flirt with this so called "scheming girl", she was just a friend who asked him for help to propose to her Military boyfriend. The ML didn't do anything wrong, the FL (girl) just misunderstood it. I agree, that she could have just asked him, instead of trying to move on, before she even knows everything.
