  • Heres my 1st year of piano :) Enjoy :))
I was NOT an absolute beginner. I had piano lessons from age 11-12. By the time I quit I had played a few Grade 1 pieces. The first piece you see me play, "Dance of the Hour" is actually the last Grade 1 piece I learnt. After a year of piano, I could barely read and didn't even manage to actually complete any of the pieces I'd tried to learn. 💀 However, due to these lessons, I could already identify notes and had decent hand posture when I started this journey. For this reason, my progression in the first 2/3months was definitely slightly accelerated.
    Reflection on 1st Year:
I definitely wish I stuck to pieces longer. I've just counted that I learnt around 20 songs! But only finished 5 or 6. And only had 12 or so that sounded decent. I may (or may not) change this for Year 2. I find that as I improve, I'm starting to get a lot quicker at learning pieces. Maybe I'll stick to 2 pieces a month in 2023.
I'm upgrading my set up very soon. I look forward to bringing you lot along in my journey and posting on a more regular schedule :)))
Here's how much money I made on this video:

As a pianist for 12 years (I’m also 16), you’re ability to pick up piano so quickly is astonishing. You’re going to be great if you keep your passion growing. I recommend you experiment writing your own music and making your own style, that’s what got me from “ok” to “this is the world of music.” I believe you can do great things with piano. Keep it going!

12 years!! Damn! I can't wait to be able to say I've played piano for that long. Thank you so much! I have definitely wanted to start writing music for a long time but I honestly feel like I'm lacking the music theory knowledge to do so :/ not sure if you will see this reply but do you have any tips for getting into writing music? It would be so much appreciated!!

    • @Snargloffin
      @Snargloffin 9 месяцев назад +1

@@pianoandeden writing music is something I’ve never been great at, and I haven’t been doing it for very long, but I don’t think music theory stands in the way of that very much. I know quite a bit of theory and it still can’t help me write good music, you kind of just figure that out. If you’re writing for piano, then pretty much any software works well, I recommend Musescore (it’s also free). Another thing I didn’t mention before is how important it is you play for people. How you’ve developed your channel to put things to show for your work is incredibly important and I can’t say I’ve done enough public performance. It’s really what I think drives a passion for music, otherwise you do a lot of work and there’s nothing to show for it. I don’t know if you’ll ever see this either, but I’m excited for the eventual self-written content. Good luck!

Hey I have some pieces you can practice for sight reading:
    -Minuet in G major
    -Minuet in G minor C.Petzold
    -Für Elise
As for ones you can learn:
-Little prelude no.2 in c minor BWV 934
-Minuet in b minor(French suite no.3 BWV 814) also a theme for tetris
-prelude in c minor from the 1st WTC by Bach
-the other two movements of Mozarts C major sonata

I really love that you added personal notes in the right margin. As an adult contemplating taking up piano it's really encouraging to see how the mind of someone in their youth (the most neuroplastic stage of life) works in the learning process in regards to memory, boredom, etc.
It helps me to feel like, hey ok, maybe my memory won't be so dusty to cause me great difficulty in learning this if this young person forgot the name of their favorite childhood movie. (Just so it's not misconstrued, I mean this as a compliment.)

Insane progress for a total beginner. When I started piano my mom forced me to play a level 3 RCM piece, and I learned to read sheet music by her dictating the notes😢. Also, it’s total insanity to play those nocturnes! To play them well is impossible for 99% of beginners, but even hitting the notes is crazy. I'm self taught too but left my piano back home 10 years ago and fear Ive probably forgotten everything now. I really suffer with memory so if I don't keep doing something, its gone. I think it's serendipitous that you found something that you didn't expect to love, especially piano. I'm currently on my piano journey, heading to a 3rd month. Although I had started out self taught, my school offers a piano course, so naturally I had taken that. I think it's incredible and very honorable that you stuck with piano, and I wish you the utter best when it comes to musicality.

I completely relate to the memorizing pieces and not being able to sight read. I did that ad a kid and regreted it, so this time I'm learning and let my teacher know I wanted to focus on sight reading!
The most difficult part for me right now is trying to find pieces at my level I can start learning. All the ones I bring to my teacher she says are too hard for me right now 😅
I hope to be able to continue playing for a long time. Though my progress is slower than yours, I hope to be able to play beautiful songs in a year just like you did!

Once I get a teacher I really wanna focus on reading aswell because I honestly feel like my piano skills right now are limited because I can't read well. I need to look for piano teachers in this area 🤔
I also have that same issue of learning pieces where the reading is waaaay too hard🤣 but I have a habit of playing by ear and so I can just about manage.

You've done extremely well for one year. A tip I think you should know is that for a lot of pieces, especially Chopin and Satie, it's better to give your own "touch" to the piece, staying at the same tempo throughout with the same volume sounds mechanical rather than organic. Good luck on your journey :)

I feel this🤣 I'm honestly surprised I stuck with piano because I typically go through interests super quickly and then get bored. I wish you good luck and am so happy to have encouraged you!! I'm curious to know what the huge song is?

Watching your progress gives me hope and ambition and inspiration. I started a couple years ago as an adult learner of music with a ukulele and recently had a massive change in my life having now moved to the other side of the world from the UK to HK and find myself with a bunch of time. So I bought myself a starter keyboard and started a slow process of learning piano. I’m learning through synthesia but a few friends have advised not to and I would find it much more rewarding going through reading music sheets the traditional way. I’m on week one. Well done on your progress. Amazingly hard work

Omg that's amazing! And I hope your new life is treating you well. Synthesia is tempting although I would always recommend learning to read sheetmusic (if you want to continue learning piano in the long run). I feel like synthesia is OK for messing around on piano but I do honestly think learning sheet music is worthwhile. Particularly as you advance. Learning to play Fantasie Impromptu using synthesia, for example, sounds treacherous 😅 I wish you so much good luck! Learning piano is so rewarding and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

Hi, Im a 27 years old who dream to play piano since i was a kid. Only recently bought a keyboard but as beginner to learn alone is tough and easily got frustrated. I saw your video and got inspired. And spend some hours practicing everyday. I never able to play right and left hand together. Now I finally able to play Gymnopedia No.1 Erik Satie and Yesterday by beatles. So there is hope to improve to anyone who just started the journey 😊

I pray to be receiving many more annual videos although in my simple mind, you have covered a Lifetime, including the parts ehivh you describe as being nit so polished. All I can add is a blind man can 'see' you are talented and gifted. Giving thanks for you and your sister, - the backing vocalist! Blessed Love 💗. Step out in great Favour girl.

The Alessandra Celletti piece at the end with the Coraline dreamlike flair is mesmerizing! Very cool! I am thinking of starting to learn piano as I have always loved music, and to see you skip around and learn what you enjoy and make good progress is really encouraging.

I love it too! I haven't played it in a while; I might come back to it. Haha I'm definitely not good at sticking to one thing at a time so I love piano for the reason that I don't HAVE to follow a structure to have fun. Definitely do pick up piano (or any instrument). It gives you such a different outlook on life. My approach to and perception of music will never be the same again.

I really love your video! And here's why - you made the comment several times that songs bored you after a while - and I feel it so hard.... I think I can cut myself a slice, just take a new song and do not get angry about it. Maybe you go back after some time and learn more... but maybe you learn 1000 beginnings and nothing to end - does not really matter, the main thing is to have fun in the time :)
    Thank you for sharing.

It's so nice to find people who also have this issue!! I typically learn about a minute of a song before getting sick of it 😅😅 I may go back to nocturne op 9 no 2. Not sure though. Definitely!! Having fun is the key!! I LOVE piano :) I dont feel the need to follow a structure if I don't want to :)
      Thank YOU for watching

WOWWWW! I’ve been teaching myself for almost 2 years, and cannot play anything like that. Well done! I’ve recently started with a teacher, to help me with a good learning path, and also to help me finish songs that I start! You seem to be extraordinarily talented for this instrument. I hope you continue. I can only imagine what you will be doing years from now, I wish I had learned as a kid😊.

I've had a similar piano journey as you. Started playing around a year a go but i still havent moved on from synthesia haha.
We have some pieces in common like up theme, gymnopedie, fur elise, the entertainer and billy joel! But I would love to learn some mozart!
Anyways cool video, good luck with your playing!

It's so great to have another person who likes Billy Joel!!! Mozart is definitely super fun to play. I find his pieces a lot easier to interpret and understand aswell. Synthesia is so tempting so I don't blame you😭😭 I've kind of gotten used to reading with scores now though. Thank you so much for watching and commenting!!!
