I have an 8’0 Ultra Tracker with a 8” Christenson tracker fin. This board is dangerous: it will displace most other boards in your quiver. I bought it as a mid length that could surf good days easily and also act as a longboard alternative at times when the log is the right choice, but you want something smaller to handle. It gets in early, drops in like a dream thanks to the belly up front. But once up, there are no limits. You can keep it casual and cruise, standing mid board, or you can whip this thing around easily from the tail. I mean radical direction change. The thin rails will cut into the face, to the point where if your turn is poorly executed the board will simply cut into the wave completely and eject you. It’s still user friendly, and you’ll quickly calibrate to the rails, but if you’re coming from a board with fuller more forgiving rails, your habits will show. For reference, I also surf a Nautilus 7’4 and a Takayama Howard Special Mini 7’4 and this board just begs you to take it out every time. Obviously the nautilus is the choice for great days, but if you’re feeling single fin the tracker is deadly.

How do you think one would go with a slightly smaller fin on her? They recommend going a little shorter on the flat trackers

Maybe for a normal tracker (2.0 or the original) where the tail is thicker and wider. With the foiled tail, I would not be convinced because of how far you can go on rail. The projection I get using the 8” on better days is hard to give up. It’s still very maneuverable. Ultimately depends on the conditions you intend to surf. Bigger, punchier waves would work with smaller fin. Average waves the 8” is working fantastically. Real Water Sports endorsed the decision to buy the 8” as well.

I’m looking later today at a used 8’0 that just came up for sale in San Francisco. I snapped a 7’8 Hess the other day, I’ve wanted one of these ultra trackers shit I’m wrestling in my head with whether or not the 8’0 is too long 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫

That’s up to you. Ultra has same volume as a 6” shorter regular tracker 2.0. I like length, not necessarily volume, so it’s a win for me. Longer but leaner gives you a lot of optionality. You have the thinner rail line if you want to use, or reduce the rail line by pivoting over the tail. For what it’s worth, it doesn’t feel big to me. It feels like a 7’6 with the tail and nose pulled out 4” and 2”. I also looked at a used one in SF, but bringing it home on the plane was 😂

I have a 7-2 original Flat Tracker and I love it. I wanted an 8 footer but they were no longer being produced. I gotta say, that ultra tracker is pretty sexy.

The Christenson Tracker range is all PU. If you're after an EPS midlength, we've got some better options for you if you get in touch with us!

Wow, what kinda review is this???? Where's the time on the board to give a review???? I've got plenty of mates here in OZ that could do the same thing with over 50 surfboards in our quiver combined.,..... You've just wasted my time Mr Pommy
