I live near there, since 2003, and we walk that prom quite often! It’s stood the test of time well really, when you consider how hard it’s been hammered over the decades, it’s clear that it was well engineered! The surrounding cliffs have altered their profile considerably since and the beach level isn’t far short of the walking surface, whereas it was a 4/6 feet jump down 20 years ago! Cheers

I remember my father telling me that it was a calm day but there was a huge SE swell which thundered onto the front that caused all the damage and led to the building of the present sea wall. The wonderful VW Swallowdale garage on Harbour Road was apparently flooded out and a load of new VW and Audi cars were flooded with sea water and had to be taken away. When the wall was built there were grumbles from people who were used to driving down and parking on the front that they no longer had a view of the sea! It has certainly done a good job. As a student I used to be one of the part-time pebble pickers employed in the summer so very aware of how much shingle can be moved by a single high tide.

I live in Burnham on Sea, Somerset and we had a new sea wall built in the 1980s as prior to that, floods were a regular occurrence.
I hope you have enjoyed watching these nostalgic cine films.
