There's another show that probably will be really underrated. I mean it's an anime original, so we don't know much about it, but the EP1 and the trailer looked good. It's NegaPosi Angler. It's a fishing anime where the first scene is about the MC trying to hang himself.
Astronomy was pretty developed in several regions for thousands of years prior to medieval Europe. . It’s more about the Church trying to keep this out. But eventually, through Islamicate influence, it arrived in Europe. But even prior to Islamicate societies, there were other societies advanced in Astronomy.

Fun fact: Copernicus was born in Poland in the 2nd half of 15th century, so about the time the manga takes place and he wasn't prosecuted by the church for his work ;p he was actually a member of the church, he was something like a deacon. He even officially studied mathematics and astronomy on Cracow's University, so i guess Church in Poland didn't care that much xD The book in which Copernicus described his theory - "On the Revolutions of the Heavenly Spheres" was published in the Holy Roman Empire and the church didn't care either, it was forbidden 70 years after death of Copernicus, when after Galileo's trial the church realized that heliocentrism is a bit too popular ;p Many scientists were also theologists, Copernicus even consulted his book about heliocentrism with some theologists and in the entry he wrote it's his hypothesis, not a fact and that was enough to officially not be consider a blasphemy by the church, such a disclaimer was lowkey a loophole i guess xD So, the reality of scientists wasn't that harsh as it's presented in the manga ;p
Copernicus did a lot of work before his theories on astronomy. He made himself indispensable to Poland/the Holy Roman Empire with his other works. Also, he published his book on his deathbed even though he had the ideas cemented when he was younger. The church couldn't make a man they deemed holy suddenly become an enemy of the church. Also, he was friends with the pope/prince during his time. Side note: they might not have targeted scientist nobles. The anime mainly revolves around so far an orphan, and an illiterate commoner so far. The noble at the bar knew of the movements of the planets mainly Mars. Then, he proceeded to mock the poor man with his observations. While the noble well stood noble and proud that he can one up a peasant who lost everything. The story might not be a battle between church and science, It's about power and control. side note the church did treat science as a conflict. We still do it to this day with the US church demanding to take control of education. Limiting great ideas and possibilities for future thinkers. School doesn't say evolution is the truth, but a possibility what we were willing to think of. Yet the religious folk have a kick back to the idea. I still don't know why when we ignored gods first mission for humanity.
I love this anime. Just by imagining all that passion, effort and bloodshed to pass on knowledge... And centuries later humanity consumes Clorox and thinks the earth is flat 🤷♂
I’m having a really hard time with this show. Like how do you kill off the main character in episode 3. And the move on to some time jump with new characters
This and Dandadan had surpassed the Frieren Manga in my eyes so you KNOW theyre good these two are so goddamn peak writing man 😭 (No disrespect to Frieren tho it is a timeless classic no matter how you slice it)
I've my eyes on this series too. Although personally I'm most excited for Mecha Ude as one of the people who watched the pilot when it first came out, and Haigakura because it has the same author as Amatsuki, which was unfortunate enough to be adapted by Studio DEEN and directed by Furuhashi (ugh).
I agree that the art is definitely not his strong point but I think it gets the point across at the very least I hope Madhouse doesn’t go 1:1 and at least gets more creative with the visuals for certain scenes

The only thing holding this anime back is the prologue is slow yet necessary but once the journey starts it gets really good

It's then that you realize the main character of the show is not Rafal, but the curiosity of human being.
I watched the first episode and it is amazing. I love these kind of stories. I guess this will fill the hole left by Frieren.

I read this story and i thought it was ok, but i thought the biggest problem was the artstyle was off, so a well made anime could really help.
