Amazing to watch your journey from how you felt at the start as to why all the hype at the start through to being so genuinely stressed over choices at the end. It was hard to watch you feel so uncertain at some of them but that's just a compliment to the game/writing/etc. That's what the game does to you - it drags you in with the slow burn and suddenly you're another fan. Great watch all through.
1:58:50 one of the very few flaws in this game is that it doesn't go very much into A2's backstory except as text. That backstory is in other nier media (books, the anime). If they had gone into her backstory in the game a little more in depth (maybe even had a whole route dedicated to playing it before Route C) , this scene would have been more impactful. That said, I highly encourage you to check out her backstory, and this scene will make a lot more sense.
As far as Automata being called a love story, this is accurate especially when you consider its a japanese game. It might not seem that heavily romantic through a western lens, but this style of romance writing is very common in japanese media; less direct, less explicitly stated. Shown more through subtle behaviour or selfless actions toward someone rather than the more obvious "i love you", or kissing, or having sex, like you'd often see in western media. A "read between the lines" kind of depiction, as you said.
Ok, last one! 27:45 "You cut down my sister like a goddamn animal and now you want to stop?" 32:03 Yoko Taro was asked in an interview: "What exactly does NieR mean?" and he said, "What does NieR mean.... That 2B plot twist was heartbreaking but it made sense considering how cold she was throughout the game. She’s been killing 9S for a while, way before the game begins because he would discover the truth or get close to it every time. She was responsible for the nickname Nines too before the game. She and 9S were also pursuers of A2 and have been killed by her quite a few times before the main game. Also, 9S’ true internal feelings, he’s obsessive with 2B and would go as far as murdering her to keep her to himself. He’s a nut. There are so many layers to the lore of this world, through literature, plays, etc. It’s pretty hefty!
@@lylianx4209 That could play a role but “Long Story Short” confirmed that he is truly possessive and obsessive of her. Adam was the character to get a glimpse of 9S’ true feelings when he was captured and 9S feared having those feelings exposed. He holds perverse feelings towards her and stated that only he is allowed to do whatever he wants to do to her. Even if it boils down to him hurting and killing her, he will do so to avoid the possibility of anyone getting close to her.

@@lunitygaming I’m telling you, it’s insane. I’ve been down this road since Drakengard. Yoko Taro is a complex story teller but I like how he goes about it. I do wish certain things made it into the games as well.
If you have already started play Nier replicant I suggest you watch a youtube video of the game "drakengard" Nier is technically its sequel with its own ending E. the games have nothing to do with each other narratively. but if you want to know why both games talk about a red dragon falling from the sky, thats ending E of drakengard. its an old ps2 game and you can't play it without emulation so i feel no guilt in telling you about it. you don't need to know it to enjoy Nier but it adds some context.
The bit about "falsification being complete" in the Yorha project document just means that all evidence that mankind is extinct would be destroyed. "Raising android morale" was the project's main goal, as stated in a document you obtained earlier (in soul box I think) After reading it 9S mentions 2B, he says "That means all of us... 2B..." At the top of the tower he finishes his thought "Me? 2B? Sacrificial lambs, all of us" I remember there was some confusion regarding the wording used in the "black box" document as well, the gist of it was that it would be inhumane (not inhuman as a chatter typed iirc) to install traditional ai in androids that were going to die by design. Think how we'd rather use a robot than a human for a dangerous tast. Yorha androids' "souls" were made from machine parts, therefore they're lesser, not human enough that killing them off would be inhumane The E designation is a well kept secret. The Amnesia sidequest reveals 9S didn't know it even existed. And if their job is to kill other Yorha units, then yeah it'd make sense to keep their existence hush-hush. Afaik a E type is only mentioned three times: in the 9S v A2 scene, amnesia and the A2 document Though the game does strongly hint that on some level 9S did know before it is revealed to him And the blindfolds are purely a rule of cool thing, in-universe they provide some kind of hud
I really enjoyed watching this playthrough and I appreciate how seriously you took the whole process and the lore. I think you will enjoy Nier Replicant. The story and characters are stellar, although there is a lot of repetition (but it's ultimately really worth it). Regards Nier Automata, I think there should be a shout out to the voice actors, especially Kyle McCarley as 9S.

1:58:41 Since 9s put on the arm of one of 2b's copies (which are creations of the machines), his circuit was connected to the network of the machines and the virus he experienced could not completely eliminate him (that's why before deciding between 9s and A2, 9s' eyes started to turn red). Then, when A2 hacks 9s and enters inside, she sees that there is a light that is a bridge between 9s and The Tower and destroying that would restore 9s to normal. So A2 asks her pod to take care of 9s and she, in an unknown way, destroys The Tower from inside and, when she comes out of that hacking system, it is the scene at the end [C] where The Tower collapses together with her. By the way, I played this game almost a year ago and it has been my favorite game so far. So much so that's why I started watching gameplay/reaction from other users on YT and that's how I ended up here. I loved all the dedication you put into the game and the side quests. And I agree, this game is a masterpiece!

I'm glad you gave this game a chance. I bought this game on a whim back in 2017 with no prior knowledge to the series and it's left a mark in my list of games that I liked.
There was a bit of story lore in another game that referenced Nier Automata, and raised an interesting point. 9S had hacked 2B to temporarily cure her of the computer virus during the assault (prior to losing the bunker). This gave him access to all of her memories. Whatever his suspicions were up to that point, that revelation would have told him everything about her mission to keep killing him.

This was really interesting. I’ve never seen somebody do this order of the games. I was very interested in how playing Automata first would affect the understanding of some story events. It seems like this mostly works, except for this last bit of the game where a lot of replicant sttuff is brought up. This is really difficult to understand without the context of the first game.
Super summary of the timeline (NO SPOILERS FOR REPLICANT): - Humans exist -Humans create Androids -Humans are dying -Androids try to save humanity -Androids fail and humanity becomes extinct -After a long time, the aliens attack -The androids resist trying to protect their home (the earth) -Aliens create machines to fight against androids -Machines kill aliens and become interested in humans -The war between machines and androids lasts for thousands of years -To ensure that the androids continue fighting and do not give up, they create YoRHa and the council of humanity -As YoRHa are the only ones who know that humanity is extinct, they are designed to die, so no one will ever know the truth. -When they were created, as they were designed to die, it was thought that it would be inhumane to make them like normal androids, so they used machine cores (made from the enemy) -As they used machine cores that allowed the machine server to hack YoRHa easily and know everything.

This was a random playthrough i decided watched and man I gotta say it's interesting seeing how other people go about games. No judgement at all but it does bum me out when people don't fully use all the systems a game has to offer( chip fusion, the different pod programs, the different weapons) regardless though I enjoyed your playthrough!
Learning that it's possible to purchase achievements is a bit disheartening. I'm currently in a 75 hour long run to 100% the game... Oh well. I'll still keep at it, since I feel like purchasing them now would be a betrayal of all my effort so far.
I will finish ending E after getting 100%. Although I have a feeling it might trigger at least a few emotions in myself to just destroy what's likely to end up 80+ hours of effort. I feel it'll be worth it though, to make sure someone else will get the offer for assistance.
I totally get how you feel, but don't give up! I think earning them yourself will give you a better sense of satisfaction vs purchasing them all. and you'll be able to spend more time with the game that way too :)
There's some extra stuff with Emil and side quests in this game. Solid content, but if your eager to get to Replicant I wouldn't blame you. For my favourite quest. It's gotta be the tragedy that was 11B's memento. It's not that complicated, but the log you find on her body just breaks my heart every time.
oh we actually picked up that memento in playthrough A! probably when I had to go back to the abandoned factory for the first time. it really was heartbreaking
it's almost like as if I explained for an entire 30 minutes that I had no idea people were actually getting their save files deleted and that I wouldn't have taken the help if I had known that but yeah let's just say i'm gross for not knowing right :)
crud, you didn't see what happens after the 4th hack! you really need to do nothing other than hack A2 so as to achieve it. The greatest hacking in the game is there.

Yoko Taro explicitly goes into detail about how the entire Nier series is about an outsiders perspective on the events of 9/11. He made it a choice for a very specific reason. That there’s a deeper layer here in the meta narrative than just action RPG with hints of subtle romance. If you care more about achievement hunting that’s your choice, but the game clearly had a deeper meaning to it and was put into the game with that intention in mind, and people are allowed to voice that opinion.

Adam was the character to get a glimpse of 9S’ true feelings when he was captured and 9S feared having those feelings exposed. He holds perverse feelings towards her and stated that only he is allowed to do whatever he wants to do to her. Even if it boils down to him hurting and killing her, he will do so to avoid the possibility of anyone getting close to her.

@@lunitygaming I’m telling you, it’s insane. I’ve been down this road since Drakengard. Yoko Taro is a complex story teller but I like how he goes about it. I do wish certain things made it into the games as well.
If you have already started play Nier replicant I suggest you watch a youtube video of the game "drakengard" Nier is technically its sequel with its own ending E. the games have nothing to do with each other narratively. but if you want to know why both games talk about a red dragon falling from the sky, thats ending E of drakengard. its an old ps2 game and you can't play it without emulation so i feel no guilt in telling you about it. you don't need to know it to enjoy Nier but it adds some context.
The bit about "falsification being complete" in the Yorha project document just means that all evidence that mankind is extinct would be destroyed. "Raising android morale" was the project's main goal, as stated in a document you obtained earlier (in soul box I think)
After reading it 9S mentions 2B, he says "That means all of us... 2B..." At the top of the tower he finishes his thought "Me? 2B? Sacrificial lambs, all of us"
I remember there was some confusion regarding the wording used in the "black box" document as well, the gist of it was that it would be inhumane (not inhuman as a chatter typed iirc) to install traditional ai in androids that were going to die by design. Think how we'd rather use a robot than a human for a dangerous tast. Yorha androids' "souls" were made from machine parts, therefore they're lesser, not human enough that killing them off would be inhumane
The E designation is a well kept secret. The Amnesia sidequest reveals 9S didn't know it even existed. And if their job is to kill other Yorha units, then yeah it'd make sense to keep their existence hush-hush. Afaik a E type is only mentioned three times: in the 9S v A2 scene, amnesia and the A2 document
Though the game does strongly hint that on some level 9S did know before it is revealed to him
And the blindfolds are purely a rule of cool thing, in-universe they provide some kind of hud

I really enjoyed watching this playthrough and I appreciate how seriously you took the whole process and the lore. I think you will enjoy Nier Replicant. The story and characters are stellar, although there is a lot of repetition (but it's ultimately really worth it). Regards Nier Automata, I think there should be a shout out to the voice actors, especially Kyle McCarley as 9S.

1:58:41 Since 9s put on the arm of one of 2b's copies (which are creations of the machines), his circuit was connected to the network of the machines and the virus he experienced could not completely eliminate him (that's why before deciding between 9s and A2, 9s' eyes started to turn red). Then, when A2 hacks 9s and enters inside, she sees that there is a light that is a bridge between 9s and The Tower and destroying that would restore 9s to normal. So A2 asks her pod to take care of 9s and she, in an unknown way, destroys The Tower from inside and, when she comes out of that hacking system, it is the scene at the end [C] where The Tower collapses together with her.
By the way, I played this game almost a year ago and it has been my favorite game so far. So much so that's why I started watching gameplay/reaction from other users on YT and that's how I ended up here. I loved all the dedication you put into the game and the side quests. And I agree, this game is a masterpiece!

I'm glad you gave this game a chance. I bought this game on a whim back in 2017 with no prior knowledge to the series and it's left a mark in my list of games that I liked.
Looking back, 2B was probably the person who originally gave 9S the nickname "Nines".

There was a bit of story lore in another game that referenced Nier Automata, and raised an interesting point. 9S had hacked 2B to temporarily cure her of the computer virus during the assault (prior to losing the bunker). This gave him access to all of her memories. Whatever his suspicions were up to that point, that revelation would have told him everything about her mission to keep killing him.
This is a funny thing but Yoko Taro made a concert about what happened to 2b and 9s after they were repaired. It’s good! I saw it live in Bangkok!

In order to show up at another players credits, you need to sacrifice your safe data. Its lost either way no matter if they die

Today I've finished this game, and I didn't understand at the end what kind of help the pod asked me to offer by sacrificing my data so i chose NO, And after I found out what it was I really regretted my choice and feel kind of I was selfish

100%-ed 3 times and deleted my files 3 times. Such good game, feel like it is worth it.
This was really interesting. I’ve never seen somebody do this order of the games. I was very interested in how playing Automata first would affect the understanding of some story events. It seems like this mostly works, except for this last bit of the game where a lot of replicant sttuff is brought up. This is really difficult to understand without the context of the first game.
After the end of Replicant playthrough you should watch ending Y of Automata.
Super summary of the timeline (NO SPOILERS FOR REPLICANT):
- Humans exist
-Humans create Androids
-Humans are dying
-Androids try to save humanity
-Androids fail and humanity becomes extinct
-After a long time, the aliens attack
-The androids resist trying to protect their home (the earth)
-Aliens create machines to fight against androids
-Machines kill aliens and become interested in humans
-The war between machines and androids lasts for thousands of years
-To ensure that the androids continue fighting and do not give up, they create YoRHa and the council of humanity
-As YoRHa are the only ones who know that humanity is extinct, they are designed to die, so no one will ever know the truth.
-When they were created, as they were designed to die, it was thought that it would be inhumane to make them like normal androids, so they used machine cores (made from the enemy)
-As they used machine cores that allowed the machine server to hack YoRHa easily and know everything.
you don't have to equip a chip to taunt, you can taunt right at the very start

This was a random playthrough i decided watched and man I gotta say it's interesting seeing how other people go about games. No judgement at all but it does bum me out when people don't fully use all the systems a game has to offer( chip fusion, the different pod programs, the different weapons) regardless though I enjoyed your playthrough!
Learning that it's possible to purchase achievements is a bit disheartening. I'm currently in a 75 hour long run to 100% the game... Oh well. I'll still keep at it, since I feel like purchasing them now would be a betrayal of all my effort so far.
I will finish ending E after getting 100%. Although I have a feeling it might trigger at least a few emotions in myself to just destroy what's likely to end up 80+ hours of effort.
I feel it'll be worth it though, to make sure someone else will get the offer for assistance.
I totally get how you feel, but don't give up! I think earning them yourself will give you a better sense of satisfaction vs purchasing them all. and you'll be able to spend more time with the game that way too :)
There's some extra stuff with Emil and side quests in this game. Solid content, but if your eager to get to Replicant I wouldn't blame you.
For my favourite quest. It's gotta be the tragedy that was 11B's memento. It's not that complicated, but the log you find on her body just breaks my heart every time.
oh we actually picked up that memento in playthrough A! probably when I had to go back to the abandoned factory for the first time. it really was heartbreaking

This is such an annoying response. Why should I HAVE to give up my save file if I’m not ready to have it be deleted? Do you expect me to play through the entire game all over again when I have other things I want to do just to prove to someone on the internet that I “understood the game”?? This is such an elitist comment. I can give it away when I’m ready for it. I can understand those themes completely without having to delete my entire save file for the sake of it…
@@lunitygaming That comment is one of the things that i hate the most, deleting your save basically means you'll never touch the game again (unless you really liked the game and didn't 100%), by not IMMEDIATELY deleting your save you at least have the opportunity to see all endings, all quests, all the DLC, i'm sorry you have to deal with this fake fans
@@luciano1240and I hate when people call other people “fake fans” for their opinions about part of the game. Yoko Taro explicitly goes into detail about how the entire Nier series is about an outsiders perspective on the events of 9/11. He made it a choice for a very specific reason. That there’s a deeper layer here in the meta narrative than just action RPG with hints of subtle romance.
If you care more about achievement hunting that’s your choice, but the game clearly had a deeper meaning to it and was put into the game with that intention in mind, and people are allowed to voice that opinion.
