The most important thing I learned about learning Japanese is: Do not fear using the language. It's the most important thing. You can read school text books and use apps all day long, without really making any progress. Even the usual language classes don't really help. And Heisig himself for example, who revolutionized the Kanji learning method, said that he doesn't deem school a good place to learn a language. Unless you start actually trying to read books or use the language otherwise, you will never really become fluent or be able to really use it. It's also a big motivator when you just sit down and try to translate a game or anything else you are actually interested in instead of these sameish practice sentences all these books seem to copy from each other.
I think people that fear using the language are those that just learn in classroom settings and don't get to hear people talk in real life. If you hear people talk often it will come out naturally and so no fear.
I'm completely self taught and went down the learn to read route and can somewhat translate things in my head now but I don't have the confidence to actually speak with people. Either I can't think of the words or I just get to embarrassed, do you have any tips to overcome this? I've recently been watchin a lot of tekashii's videos to try and hear spoken language but I just get lost and don't hear the words that I know written down. p.s my favorite way of reading is to translate my favorite japanese songs. :)
Thank you so much for supporting me always !! Im moving forward Little by little and can’t wait to hit one million subs. I finished a lot of interviewing for new videos please check them out when I upload !
I am from India, Most of the Indians learn Japanese in India. It’s amazing that many people study upto JLPT N2. Japanese people who are working in india helped us a lot. In my case, I wanted to work on Japan, So i studied Japanese very hard. I was also doing part time as a tourist guide for Japanese visitors. Which helped me to improve slang and vocabulary.
Congratulations Takashi on 100K+ subscribers!! Glad I found out about your channel. Planning to come and work in Japan in a few years! Hopefully by God's grace!
Two months ago when this came out you said thank you for 100k subs and now almost 2 months after you are very close to reach 200k. Amazing quick growth! Keep it up!
Ur Japanese videos are great injoy watching I like the japanese languish just started to learn japanese hope to.one day visit Japan great job keep it up
congratulations Takashi !!! very well deserved, your videos really helped me to understand how things work in japan !! keep it going and good luck for the rest !!!!
When I moved to Tokyo the only Japanese words that I know were Arigatou & Sayonara😁. The company that I worked for provided Japanese lesson once a week but for me that was not enough. I decided to took a private Japanese language lesson 3X a week, joined the local community activities ( hiking, photography & kintsugi ) and begged my roommates to speak to me inly in Japanese. That really sped up my Nihongo proficiency.
Channel’s blowing up! I was watching your reaction videos to History of Japan and the Visiting Japan animation just a few months ago and you like 1000 subs. Nice job!
Takashii‘s „How was it? That was interesting.“ line at the end. (And it really was interesting every time!) I find it interesting that his foreign interviewees come from so many different parts of the world. I am never disappointed with his interviews and it does provide practical tips and valuable information and experiences from his interviewees. Congratulations on more than 100K subscribers!
Congratulations! I truly love your vids. I'm currently studying Japanese and I can definitely say that I learned a lot from your videos. It's nice to know other people experience and perspective plus I really like your reaction when conversing to others hahaha more videos to come!
I just stumbled upon your site a couple of days ago.You have a natural and immediate way of putting the people you interview at ease. You look away mostly only to keep in contact with the camera person but that is in itself a plus both the camera person and the interviewee. An apparent shyness that is less threatening. From just hearing the Japanese spoken by you, I understand how rich and deep the sounds are. A truly beautiful language. You are one of the best ambassadors for your country. I taught English in France for 30 years. Your English is easy to understand and sounds as if you have been abroad in an English speaking country. If or when you go to an English speaking country, might I suggest somewhere in the Highlands of Scotland where the dialect there gives a similar richness in the sound quality as the Japanese you speak. I am not from Scotland and other people may disagree but if you hear and listen to this accent, you might agree that the quality of the vowels at least ,approachs that of your Japanese. Thank you Takashii !
I would love to learn Japanese and move to Tokyo when I’m old enough. It will be hard but I’m sure it will be worth it, i want to start fresh and have a new place to explore. I’m in love with how the buildings look at night and i would be so happy to experience it in real life.
Congratulations @TAKASHii from Japan 🇯🇵 As someone from the US, I’ve always wanted to get a perspective of Japan from the people there including foreigners. This is definitely a great venture. Definitely want to visit in the future.
I LOVE Japan for its unique culture and places. For how they live I mean it's weird but I like a strict environment. Everything there is so organized and beautiful.. I mean there are always some withdrawns in everything but... Anyway japan is also where anime started!! I love their food and how polite they are. The buildings and their history, their appearance! Almost everything really😅🖤
I've been in Japan for two years and have the same fear of speaking that the guy at 19:08 talks about. His Japanese is so good! It's inspiring. He would probably make a great teacher.
I'm Japanese. To be honest I was a little surprised when I saw this video. Because in my daily life, when I meet foreigners who speak Japanese, it is almost always foreigners of color and I rarely meet caucasians who speak fluent Japanese. However in this video, the caucasians are speaking more fluent Japanese than the foreigners of color.
I love how modest they are about their ability to speak it. I am the same with Spanish, even though native Speakers tell me that I speak it perfectly. Humility is the secret ingredient in learning other languages.
Takashi probably asked so many random strangers especially those that stood out as gaijin before landing these people. That's why his videos rarely feature East and Southeast Asians.
The idea that caucasians are worse at learning languages is a complete myth. I have the same problem in Spanish-speaking countries with some people not speaking to me cause I have white skin and light hair.
Happy 100k to you takashi 😊 I'm learning Japanese right now and I hope I'll be able to travel japan and have conversations with japanese someday 😊 hoping to see more of your contents 😊❣️
Congratulations on 10K subs Takashi san! I’m sure your channel is appreciated by lots of people overseas and as I see you interviewing so many people in this compilation, you are telling us that efforts are rewarded!🥰✨
It has been a year and a half since I started learning Japanese and I’m studying hard everyday! One day I hope I’ll be able to voice act in anime and games even though I know it will be though. Congrats on 100k subscribers!
11:34 his side profile looks like Tobey Maguire for a couple seconds edit: I love this video, you gave great tips for anyone who wants to learn Japanese from another's perspectives with various experiences in Japan! and also watching this video really made my day because it's my birthday when your video is up! hopefully I can go to Japan either for pursuing a master's degree or work there!
Congrats! Thank you for what you do. I'm visiting Japan this summer, so I'm trying to learn as much Japanese as I can before the trip. I'm only about a month in and I'm currently feeling pretty motivated. Your channel is a great source of information, inspiration, and assurance. ありがとうございます!!

Congratulations on 100k subs! You'll hit 1 million in no time just keep on producing these quality contents! Glad to see your channel grow :) Congrats again ♥
Love your videos. I did a trip to Japan and I loved everything. Shinto and all the shrines, Sakura 😍etc and I started to learn Japanese a few weeks ago. Having trouble memorizing the big words 😅 someday I hope to work as a Portuguese, English, Spanish and Japanese translator ♥️ I’ll take me a few years first to learn Japanese 😍 💪🏻
Congrats man on reaching 100k, you have always made the best content for us and this is the proof. Thank you for your videos and good luck towards the future.
I am currently learning japanese on my own and I am fascinated with the language and will say this " Start practicing speaking even if it's by yourself or your dog or the air😅😅 this is crucial on improving. My native tongue is Spanish(supengio) but I am also fluent in Eigo(English)and honestly I've never been more excited in my life about learning something as I am with Japanese. Also guys,I am 54😅but... mastering 2 languages and being able to interpret simultaneously between the 2 is a huge advantage when learning another language. The brain is just like any muscle of your body, it needs to be exercised for optimum performance. Now I am not learning kanji just yet bcs it's useless if you can't understand conversation; IMO as an interpreter the writing and reading come easier when you can speak and comprenhend better, at least that's how it worked for me. Ppl learned differently. Arigato Gozaimasu Takashii❤❤❤
Wow so cool this video.😉 I also like to learn japanese and visit Japan.🙌 I will do my best to achieve this goal. 🌟🌈💕 Thank you for the video. I'm still laughing at the 16:50 part! Who would expect someone to learn Japanese in a 試行錯誤 manner, after watching all those previous interviews! Amazing.
Living with the Japanese is the most effective way to learn Japanese. For example, Mongolians come to Japan to become sumo wrestlers, and they live with Japanese people 24 hours a day during their training so they can speak Japanese fluently in a few years.
ok.. 3rd time is a charm.. me and my little brother got taught in Judo and Jiu jitsu, Aikido and Aiki jitsu... at a very young age.. we come from netherlands.. not pretty my little brother is ambidestrous and really wanted to be a samurai.. xcept he's a 6 foot 7 redheaded viking .. that now teaches aiki jitsu in China.. something got lost along the way.. maybe not rich enough.. he is a master tech, musician and martial artist :)
