I have received multiple messages of people sharing that watching these videos made them feel that something was wrong with them because they didn't feel the same way. First, teach them that all nonbelievers are bad and are not to be associated with. Second, teach them how to start inauthentic conversations with nonbelievers with a hidden agenda to pitch a religion that teaches that all nonbelievers are bad and are to be avoided, in order to prove your worth to a vengeful god. It's shocking this religion mostly appeals to socially and emotionally unstable people.

My 89 year old mother, just months before her passing, broke down in tears(very uncharacteristic) in a conversation with me, fearful or more accurately, TERRIFIED, due to the fact that she was physically unable to go out in field service anymore and that Jehovah wouldn't be "pleased" with her. I was outraged that she was burdened by fears like this and attempted to reason with her-- that Jehovah understood...that he recognized her almost 40 years of service..and that he didn't need 89 year old women preaching...he could use stones if he wanted...surely she knew that...but she didn't. 4 decades of JW guilt-tripping you're-not-doing-enough indoctrination resulted in FEAR-- right down to the last words she actually spoke on her hospital bed- afraid we were going to force blood on her (which was not even an issue for her condition). Simply put, I HATE this organization
So sad for your Mom :( I feel the same way you do when I look at my elderly Moms situation. Driving her donation to a brothers home because of the Kingdom Halls closure due to Covid -19. And during this time the only help they were given by the brothers was apples and onions. My hate for the org continues to grow daily Lett and Morris top my list!!!!!

That was one of the most annoying and infuriating things I noticed while involved. Leave older or unwell ppl the hell alone already.The lady I studied w mother was somewhat older but extremely not well and they were on her case about not doing what she could. Had her breaking down about "not making it" bcuz she doesn't even do letter writing.
Glad Sharon gave a shining example of christian love by asking a deaf, blind woman to take a taxi then transfer to a bus to get to her meetings. It would have been such drudgery having to share a car with a fellow believer for 30 minutes each way. She also avoided having to slum it with Sharon's neighbors. Hope she didn't get any of Cecelia's poor stench on her. If you were so worried about her clothing why didn't you just ask her if she owned any dresses. If it was a financial issue, why didn't you offer to help her get some. Ikr. We only lived 3 miles from our hall but we got over a foot of snow one time. My mom was actually gonna make 11 year old me walk to the hall with her at 730 at night. I just outright refused and she walked there alone. These people are insane.

I was so happy that they actually spelled out this rule women need to wear skirts. It used to be an unwritten, inofficial rule. Now it is clearly documented that this is a REQUIREMENT. Making a woman wear a skirt (which is usually accompanied by uncomfortable shoes that make it harder to walk/run) when she needs to pass through an unsafe environment ... I don't even have the words to comment on that. I was actually surprised about this whole story. It spells "there is no love here, move on" as clearly as daylight. How could they not see that this plays not into their favor???

The demonstration of preying on recent immigrants hit so close to home. I spent most of my life going to a Portuguese-speaking congregation in an English-speaking country, a lot of new converts were often recent Brazilian or Portuguese immigrants.
I was not born into the religion but my parents joined when I was like 3 I can barely remember when my mom was tossing out all our Christmas ornaments and asking her what she was doing. The earliest child memory I have is going to a bible study with my dad and getting candy. Then sitting in a Kingdom hall bored and drawing on some paper with an ink pen that broke.
I was the same age as you when my parents got baptized. They got sucked in because I had a brother who was very sick & died when I was almost 4 years old.

My dad was just a publisher and took about 3 years after that to get baptized, found out later he had been a witness when he was younger and was baptized all ready (about 10 years previous).
@13:00 - yep, there’s some backlash happening, Lloyd. I get the sense that the GB has received a large number of letters just like they did with the violence they showed in their movies. In that case they might have doubled down on their need to scare the bejeesus out of the young ones but it seems this time the backlash might just be enough to have them retreat from their hardline position. 1:01:14 - I used to be of these "Exemplary Young Ones" that you saw giving talks, demonstrations, and being interviewed at the Conventions. I sounded just like these kids. Don't believe a word they say. We were programmed to share how happy we were, how well we defended "the truth" at school, etc. But, in reality, I was always depressed and battling cognitive dissonance. I had to rehearse in front of the Circuit Overseer, who would tweak the details to ensure I played the part adequately.
I grew up with a boy like this, and he was put under SO MUCH pressure. He ended up sneaking out to attend prom, and let me tell you absolutely everyone knew. Then after graduation he left home and became addicted to adderall. Thankfully he has been sober almost a decade, has left the organization and is married with a newborn. But he could have ended up so differently.
The fake conversation in Taylor Born to shine's segment was so cringy to me. It reminded me of my mom and how every "conversation" in her mind is just a segue into her cult. Mom: "did you get the new carpet for your house yet?" Me: "not yet". Mom: "Well in the new system we won't need carpet. Jehovah's special grass will be softer than any carpet". Grrrrr. It is like a toy robot you can't turn off. At least the toy robot isn't fooling itself into thinking it is a genuine person.

That reminds me of a time when I hung out with two sisters in my hall, and one of them ha said they liked my shoes, so I naturally told them where I got them, then she replied "oh that's nice, well you should really sign up for the LDC, it will be really fun." That's when I realized you can't really have a normal conversation with a witness at all.
A big reason for my waking up before I watched the Scientology documentary 'Going Clear' was WT's tendency to insert their hatred for the pursuit of higher education at every possible opportunity. William Turner's talk was interesting. Last year I (non-baptised, on-and-off attendee for 9 years) faded after encountering too many questions my Bible-study leader refused to answer. They were genuine questions and not intended to stir the pot; just questions the public speaker raised in my mind after a Zoom meeting, and after a particular WT article. My leader knew always took notes during face-to-face meetings and that I always had questions. No different once we switched to Zoom. Well, she cut me dead. I had to stop asking so many questions and just accept Jehovah knows best, and to wait on Jehovah. I replied that my unanswered questions were blocking me from moving forward. And she cut me. Unfollowed me on IG. Blocked my phone number and has possibly blocked my emails (not prepared to test that theory. Rejection in any format hurts.). So I was obviously a problem and not even worth bringing in the Elders. The love that never fails, eh? Well, she'll have blood on her hands at Armageddon according to the GB.
This is trauma bonding. It’s not about balance. It’s about keeping you guessing so you wire your brain to serve your master. Herd is bad cop, Lucionni the good cop. In an abusive relationship, the perpetrator of abuse first removes the victims ability to feel worthy and lovable. Tells them they aren’t enough, that they don’t deserve to feel good about themselves (Herd’s talk). And then once the victim has an eroded sense of self worth, “It’s okay, I love you anyway” (Luccionni). And so the victims sense of internal validation is lost and their need for self worth and approval is filled only by the abuser. The abuser can continuously cycle them through periods or rejection and disapproval, then periods of love and affection. Over time, the victims brain gets wired to do anything and everything to avoid the negative emotions of losing approval and affection and they engage in “fawning” behavior to keep the abuser happy. Overtime, the authentic self is abandoned for the sake of serving the whims and moods of their abuser.

I wonder how long Cecelia lasts once they can’t count time with her now she is baptised? Seriously Sharon (a Karen) determined that Cecelia could spend money on a taxi to and from the train station to which she then has to take 2 trains each way and add an unsavoury area to travel through because it inconveniences Sharon as she lives only 5 minutes from the hall. I felt that the story of Sharon and Cecilla was filmed for a different purpose. The intro was that Sharon was an example of coping with not being able to do as much - but what we get is a line that had to stop pioneering, but then learned sign language instead and the major part of the story is about connecting in a different language - was it filmed as a stock for 'other language fields' but now that is not priority they found the opening comment and decided to link it here. The whole theme of 'balance' sets out to be a reasonable approach but then you get stories that do the opposite - the older lady who is still trying to get her time in; Sharon having to stop being a pioneer then long account of doing stuff; Cecilla having to commit time, money, and danger of a dodgy neighbourhood with reduced senses - where is the life balance in that?
Sharon 's accent sounds South African to me. More importantly, her militant attitude towards Cecilia is disgusting. If Cecilia, a disabled lady, is travelling alone from a bad neighbourhood, I would suggest wearing trousers a sensible choice, regardless of Kingdom Hall rules and regulations. Sharon sounds like she is from South Africa, a country with high crime stats, where we particularly have a problem with gender based violence. In regard to your comments regarding families needing more than just financial support - my husband's father was an elder. From what he has told me, between his parents working and his father's theocratic responsibilities, he didn't really have much time with his father. At my old hall, the CO was berating everyone (mostly all elderly) “y’all aren’t doing enough, this hall is below the average” No encouragement whatsoever, just negative. I thought that was disgusting!
Had a similar experience with a CO he took each young one to the back room and made us explained why we weren't baptized or pioneering. It was so embarrassing

The governing body seem to not only have everything they need as well as everything they want AND a whole lot more. They look to be eating, dressing and living extremely well. Let them give a lot more in donations instead of expecting others to donate to their comfortable lifestyles.

I noticed an interesting detail while looking at videos of the Governing Body and their Helpers speaking. The GB members, at least in this video, have fancy (and probably expensive) handkerchiefs in their suit pockets. I noticed that when Tony Morris & Samuel Herd were speaking. But when Robert Luccioni is speaking, there is no fancy handkerchief! I was wondering if this is by design, and not just a random thing. Could this be a class thing, where seniority gets to look better? I can't remember if this is the case in all instances, but I suspect it is. But, if "Tibor is Gracious", perhaps he'll go back on past videos and research this! 🤣

I was studying while listening and from time to time I take a look at your video Lloyd, and when I heard the music of the Iron Sharpens Iron, I looked at the screen and for a moment I thought it was a parody you were doing, then I saw the circuit overseer talking, how creepy the whole thing is.

When I was 17, forced to stay at an aunts house (all my relatives were non jws) across the ocean from where I lived, (from hawaii,this was california) I got in touch with a local kingdom hall by myself found a "friend" my own age (the only person who EVER offered to drive me) at the nearest KH, she just stopped coming to pick me up.

Speaking from my own personal experience (I'm not now or ever have been a jw) 'growing up' has been the challenge of my life and I mean by that, becoming my own authority, taking responsibility for my actions etc etc. It does seem 'followers' need/want to remain children because 'they, the authorities know best'. I'm 85 and many times still want to remain the 'child'...much 'easier' to be told than to 'think'. Anyway, love to all, myself too, whatever the present journey! Thank you

My 89 year old mother, just months before her passing, broke down in tears(very uncharacteristic) in a conversation with me, fearful or more accurately, TERRIFIED, due to the fact that she was physically unable to go out in field service anymore and that Jehovah wouldn't be "pleased" with her. I was outraged that she was burdened by fears like this and attempted to reason with her-- that Jehovah understood...that he recognized her almost 40 years of service..and that he didn't need 89 year old women preaching...he could use stones if he wanted...surely she knew that...but she didn't. 4 decades of JW guilt-tripping you're-not-doing-enough indoctrination resulted in FEAR-- right down to the last words she actually spoke on her hospital bed- afraid we were going to force blood on her (which was not even an issue for her condition).

That was one of the most annoying and infuriating things I noticed while involved. Leave older or unwell ppl the hell alone already.The lady I studied w mother was somewhat older but extremely not well and they were on her case about not doing what she could. I was so happy that they actually spelled out this rule women need to wear skirts. It used to be an unwritten, inofficial rule. Now it is clearly documented that this is a REQUIREMENT.

I remember a good few years ago a jw elder was jailed for molesting children and as he was being put into the prison van he had his little grey bible in his hand. Reminds me of the priests with their so called sacred vestments. Just props, it's like a panto.
The demonstration of preying on recent immigrants hit so close to home. I spent most of my life going to a Portuguese-speaking congregation in an English-speaking country, a lot of new converts were often recent Brazilian or Portuguese immigrants.
I was not born into the religion but my parents joined when I was like 3 I can barely remember when my mom was tossing out all our Christmas ornaments and asking her what she was doing. The earliest child memory I have is going to a bible study with my dad and getting candy. Then sitting in a Kingdom hall bored and drawing on some paper with an ink pen that broke.
I was the same age as you when my parents got baptized. They got sucked in because I had a brother who was very sick & died when I was almost 4 years old.

My dad was just a publisher and took about 3 years after that to get baptized, found out later he had been a witness when he was younger and was baptized all ready (about 10 years previous).

In that case they might have doubled down on their need to scare the bejeesus out of the young ones but it seems this time the backlash might just be enough to have them retreat from their hardline position. This organisation doesn’t reverse position like this unless they’re feeling some real pressure.
As much as I enjoy your rebuttal sushi Lloyd, I do look forward to these longer in depth rebuttals. Some may complain about the length because it is similar to the length of time we once spent sitting in a Kingdom Hall. I find that spending that equivalent amount in time in becoming undoctrinated is both helpful and upbuilding to resolve never to return to that organisation.

1:01:14 - I used to be of these "Exemplary Young Ones" that you saw giving talks, demonstrations, and being interviewed at the Conventions. I sounded just like these kids. Don't believe a word they say. We were programmed to share how happy we were, how well we defended "the truth" at school, etc. But, in reality, I was always depressed and battling cognitive dissonance. I had to rehearse in front of the Circuit Overseer, who would tweak the details to ensure I played the part adequately.
I grew up with a boy like this, and he was put under SO MUCH pressure. He ended up sneaking out to attend prom, and let me tell you absolutely everyone knew. Then after graduation he left home and became addicted to adderall. Thankfully he has been sober almost a decade, has left the organization and is married with a newborn. But he could have ended up so differently.

The fake conversation in Taylor Born to shine's segment was so cringy to me. It reminded me of my mom and how every "conversation" in her mind is just a segue into her cult. Mom: "did you get the new carpet for your house yet?" Me: "not yet". Mom: "Well in the new system we won't need carpet. Jehovah's special grass will be softer than any carpet". Grrrrr. It is like a toy robot you can't turn off. At least the toy robot isn't fooling itself into thinking it is a genuine person.

That reminds me of a time when I hung out with two sisters in my hall, and one of them ha said they liked my shoes, so I naturally told them where I got them, then she replied "oh that's nice, well you should really sign up for the LDC, it will be really fun." That's when I realized you can't really have a normal conversation with a witness at all.
A big reason for my waking up before I watched the Scientology documentary 'Going Clear' was WT's tendency to insert their hatred for the pursuit of higher education at every possible opportunity. William Turner's talk was interesting. Last year I (non-baptised, on-and-off attendee for 9 years) faded after encountering too many questions my Bible-study leader refused to answer. They were genuine questions and not intended to stir the pot; just questions the public speaker raised in my mind after a Zoom meeting, and after a particular WT article.
My leader knew always took notes during face-to-face meetings and that I always had questions. No different once we switched to Zoom.
Well, she cut me dead. I had to stop asking so many questions and just accept Jehovah knows best, and to wait on Jehovah. I replied that my unanswered questions were blocking me from moving forward. And she cut me. Unfollowed me on IG. Blocked my phone number and has possibly blocked my emails (not prepared to test that theory. Rejection in any format hurts.).
So I was obviously a problem and not even worth bringing in the Elders. The love that never fails, eh? Well, she'll have blood on her hands at Armageddon according to the GB.
This is trauma bonding. It’s not about balance. It’s about keeping you guessing so you wire your brain to serve your master. Herd is bad cop, Lucionni the good cop.
In an abusive relationship, the perpetrator of abuse first removes the victims ability to feel worthy and lovable. Tells them they aren’t enough, that they don’t deserve to feel good about themselves (Herd’s talk). And then once the victim has an eroded sense of self worth, “It’s okay, I love you anyway” (Luccionni).
And so the victims sense of internal validation is lost and their need for self worth and approval is filled only by the abuser. The abuser can continuously cycle them through periods or rejection and disapproval, then periods of love and affection. Over time, the victims brain gets wired to do anything and everything to avoid the negative emotions of losing approval and affection and they engage in “fawning” behavior to keep the abuser happy.
Overtime, the authentic self is abandoned for the sake of serving the whims and moods of their abuser.

I felt that the story of Sharon and Cecilla was filmed for a different purpose. The intro was that Sharon was an example of coping with not being able to do as much - but what we get is a line that had to stop pioneering, but then learned sign language instead and the major part of the story is about connecting in a different language - was it filmed as a stock for 'other language fields' but now that is not priority they found the opening comment and decided to link it here.
The whole theme of 'balance' sets out to be a reasonable approach but then you get stories that do the opposite - the older lady who is still trying to get her time in; Sharon having to stop being a pioneer then long account of doing stuff; Cecilla having to commit time, money, and danger of a dodgy neighbourhood with reduced senses - where is the life balance in that?
Sharon 's accent sounds South African to me. More importantly, her militant attitude towards Cecilia is disgusting. If Cecilia, a disabled lady, is travelling alone from a bad neighbourhood, I would suggest wearing trousers a sensible choice, regardless of Kingdom Hall rules and regulations. I noticed an interesting detail while looking at videos of the Governing Body and their Helpers speaking. The GB members, at least in this video, have fancy (and probably expensive) handkerchiefs in their suit pockets. I noticed that when Tony Morris & Samuel Herd were speaking. But when Robert Luccioni is speaking, there is no fancy handkerchief! I was wondering if this is by design, and not just a random thing. Could this be a class thing, where seniority gets to look better? I can't remember if this is the case in all instances, but I suspect it is. But, if "Tibor is Gracious", perhaps he'll go back on past videos and research this! 🤣

So, this Sharon didn't mind driving to Cecilia's home however many times, in order to manipulate her into wearing dresses or skirts to the meetings, but she felt put out by having to pick Cecilia up and drive her to the meetings? Very selfish of Sharon. If this testimonial was supposed to be about sacrifice for the organization, Sharon showed the exact opposite.
When I was 17, forced to stay at an aunts house (all my relatives were non jws) across the ocean from where I lived, (from hawaii,this was california) I got in touch with a local kingdom hall by myself found a "friend" my own age (the only person who EVER offered to drive me) at the nearest KH, she just stopped coming to pick me up.

The whole congregation was horrified when my new study Angus McPherson showed up at the Kingdom Hall wearing a kilt. The incident even elicited a message from tight pants Tony Morris himself who sternly sent note that "This is a place of worship, not RuPaul's Drag Race!"

@@DogWick My story about brother McPherson is made up of course, but if a brother has attended a meeting at a Kingdom Hall wearing a kilt and not been hauled into the hot box at the back for a serious talking-to, I'd be surprised. Maybe I'm wrong. I live in North America, I've never considered Kingdom Halls in Scotland though.

Speaking from my own personal experience (I'm not now or ever have been a jw) 'growing up' has been the challenge of my life and I mean by that, becoming my own authority, taking responsibility for my actions etc etc. It does seem 'followers' need/want to remain children because 'they, the authorities know best'. I'm 85 and many times still want to remain the 'child'...much 'easier' to be told than to 'think'. Anyway, love to all, myself too, whatever the present journey! Thank you
Agreed! I was born in and left about a year ago, and I feel so behind others who were never in it and had a chance much younger than I to form their own opinions and become their own person. The org takes “ignorance is bliss” to a new level. Thank you for sharing!!
