I absolutely agree. I prefer my MadCatz MC2 wheel over my other DC wheels, by far. Especially with the easy fine tune adjustments to the wheel per game; wheel-max and dead-zone adjustments, and the throttle read out. Plus it feels so much better. I see so much hate towards MadCatz, but with all my DC peripherals, I can state in comparison that their DC peripherals were the better of the bunch.
@darkarch757 I appreciate that. I've been working with them for a while. I don't know if you watch Beer and Board Games, but I'm the Beer Wench. I also had a guest part in an episode of Chad Vader Season 3, and for a spot in season 4 that we just shot.
I was able to finally fix the VMU port on this Mad Catz Panther DC Flight stick by de-soldering and re-soldering on a new VMU connector from a beat up dreamcast controller. Now it works great!! I'll make a video on it soon. Glad i was able to do this since these are currently going up in value.
For those who want to play FPS on Dreamcast, just get the mouse and keyboard. They are a much better alternative to the regular controller or crappy 3rd party controllers.
@wip3outguy7 I have a flight stick to, the one made by ASCII. Now that I think about it, you're right. Thats a lot better. I forgot about it when I made the video. Oh well.
the MC2 wheel is awesome, response customization ect. Best wheel I've ever used on the DC and I've used all the US ones. i know you said what you said on 0:33 but the matcatz wheel set is great. and considering all the DC stuff you own I really think you should own it.
Sooooooo, I was a tech support lead when the XL came out first for pc and then for dreamcast. We tried to get the controller working for a KISS game that came out on the dreamcast. I totally shit on the game while the producer was sitting behind me at e3 and had no idea
When looking through my PS2 titles for some shared-screen and split-screen MP, I came upon the Mad Catz Panther _PX_ being featured alongside the rest of the specs that are shown on back of MDK2:Armageddon for PS2 - similar to back when specific third-party and Sony controllers which were supported might be listed on the back of PS1 game cases. 👉 So how well did that work for MDK2 for PS2 and did it plug into a controller port, the USB port or, as is the case with their blaster light gun, both? Can't find any example of a Panther _PX_ (as stated on MDK2) online. They are all PC or XL. The reason for so much curiosity is wondering, when so few PS2 titles listed specific controllers outside of maybe a Logitech steering wheel or the guncon light gun, why did Mad Catz receive a specific listing in the specs and was that the mark of a well-designed but maybe niche controller the only really works with MDK2?
Do you have a dream pointer..Looks like a vmu but bigger, with two extra buttons? It would make for a cool video. Thanks and cool looking device! Like the globe looking ball.
I actually knowed about this controller because Unreal Tournament showed a controller configuration, but not picture so I was confused what it is, and actually look preety nice from Madcatz... But I have one reason to buy this, and is Atari Anniversary Edition...could the TrackBall work on the games like Millipede, Centipede, Crystal Castels, Tempest?
It doesn't look great visually but I'm sure it really helps out on those first person shooters... not having a second analog stick really let the Dreamcast down but Quake III Arena's controls are actually really comfortable
how would you compare this performance wise to the dreamcast keyboard and mouse when it comes to first person shooters? from the looks of it, aiming on a mouse and keyboard seems a heck of a lot easier than than all of that stuff. or does this controller basically enable a true 2nd analog control vs a keyboard only allowing you to go in 8 different directions?
@darkarch757 I'm not much of an actor, I just handle the technical aspects of the show. Also, I don't drink so it wouldn't make for a great video. I do not play on private servers, truth be told I almost never play any game online.
I love, LOVE the Panther Flight Stick. So many games are made better by that peripheral, and funny that all of them are not the ones listed on the box to try out. Those happen to be the lesser... Must try the Aerowings series, Bang! Gunship Elite, Incoming(!), Propeller Arena, REZ, Yu Suzuki Gameworks -(Afterburner, Space Harrier), and even Star Wars Pod Racer. Adam, the STANDARD MODE is best switched for most games. The PANTHER MODE is only good for a few games, enabling use of the track ball.
This stick was originally designed for PC gaming. It was called the XL. The trackball is for mouse look in the FPS games. I guess you could use the hat but that defeats the purpose of this stick.
Looks cool, but confusing to use. Speaking of getting stuff from ebay, I actually bought the Yujin Sr Sega History Collection recently, which is miniature versions of every Sega console ever made. I bought it specifically for the Dreamcast, although it is nice to have the other ones like the Genesis and the Saturn.
I 100% agree. I think MadCatz got a bum rap because people think all 3rd party peripherals are cheap knockoffs. But I feel that they made some of the best gear for the Dreamcast. And even though their controller was the lesser of their peripherals, it was the best for mod/hacking because the MC controller PCB used a common-ground which allowed you to easily make custom arcade sticks for the DC instead of spending $150+ for the DC issued arcade sticks. If only they made Virtual-On twinsticks...
nickplays631 Hey, thanks! You can if you like, but it's really not necessary bro. I have not heard of that brand off hand. Do you have a picture? If I don't have it (and I'm guessing I don't because it doesn't sound familiar) then yes, I'd be willing to make a Keep Dreaming episode about it.
You made a video about using a Dreamcast Controller on the 360, if that method will work with this Controller, I'd kind of like to try this out with Zombie Mode
that thing looks so complicated, i've never thought that a joystick could be a good choice for a first person shooter :D.. yippee for italian language ;)
@AdamKoralik Im the person who was like "Oh man this is dreamcast Adam". Its weird i've been following Blamesociety for alongtime (long in intrent probably 3 years) and subbed to Gamesociety when that was new :P and i subbed to you probably last summer maybe a little before. I think it was before the end of summer because i remember braging about the dreamcast i got off of ebay. If it makes you feel better your videos were the biggest influence in me buying/collecting dreamcast stuff xD
Looks like a flight stick, if so could you use it with After Burner on Yu Suzuki Game Works 'vol 1?' (was there ever a second volume). I've actually found that the Twin Stick controller for Virtual On functions pretty well with Quake 3 and Unreal Tournament, although it may be lacking in buttons.
@AdamKoralik I love beer and board games xD its one of the series i can say makes me laugh even when ive seen them all before. The reruns are still funny and i have been trying to show some people. and i noticed that, I seen the Light gun comparision video (the tv one i mean) and then i was almost positive you where the beer wench. Have you tried to get into the show to be on it yet? also, do you ever play private servers on the dreamcast? I would but Broadbands are expensive .-.
My dad bought this for me to use about 15 years ago and I never used it. I never figured how to use this until I watched this/your video. I thought its for Plane games but it's mostly for First Person Shooters like Quake III Arena, Unreal Tournament, Outtrigger, etc. Weird....
@AdamKoralik Have you tried it with After Burner? By the way been watching your videos for a while, I love your dry humour and your obsessive passion for the white beauty that is the Dreamcast. Long live Ryo Hazuki.
"It does require protocol I believe." Yeah, but the games that support "two joysticks" should work, are you aware MadCatz did make a dual analog controller? But the start button was an action button and there was only 2 front action buttons. So I am assuming it was purely just for the 4 games that supported it.
The Dreamcast Controller isn't useless for fps shooters. Once you get used to moving with the buttons and aiming with the joystick it will be just fine for gaming, it just has a learning curve. And honestly if you really want to use good FPS controlls on the Dreamcast you can get a keyboard and mouse for a good price. This looks like another MadCatz "fix" from the sixth generation. It would have been cooler if they just made a dual analog controller. This thing doesn't look like it's worth the price.
+Jessey Lawson Because a trackball would still have better raw aim than a laggy imprecise stick only fixed with tons of aim assist on consoles. Best hand controller design for aim was MS Sidewinder Dual Strike except for the buttons durability and some layout.
@dimmddr1 No, RUclips doesn't give me money. They've thus far refused my requests to be a partner. Thats why I don't make videos that often, I need to run around and make money. I can only do this when I have time.
Yeah, Incoming is a very underrated and largely unknown game. And though it was more of a tech demo, it made for an excellent game and certainly had long playability to it. But the Panther Flight Stick makes that game shine all the more. Every aspect, and every ship in that game is made better by that flight stick. I showcase the use of the Panther FlightStick playing some good games in my Dreamcast Arcade Cabinets video at about the 26min mark. Brian, check that video here- /watch?v=sBCYo9Kn1B0

God this console was magnificent... only had to make a DVD Sega, why didn't you! RIP true best console experience, RIP.
Get a DVD player. You probably have a few. Sega is the last true games console made for gamers.

indeed.
@relo999 True, I didn't even think of that.
The box lies though because it shows the controller having a swirl on it, but it doesn't.

Hey Adam, I recently just bought this and I was wondering if you have any advice to take care of the Madcatz Panther DC arcade flight stick.
I have one of these too. Its more of a flight stick than anything else. It works well with the unreleased "Propeller Arena Battle".
For those who want to play FPS on Dreamcast, just get the mouse and keyboard. They are a much better alternative to the regular controller or crappy 3rd party controllers.
Simply put for supported FPS games the joystick acts and moves your legs, the trackball moves your eye/aiming.
@wip3outguy7 I have a flight stick to, the one made by ASCII. Now that I think about it, you're right. Thats a lot better. I forgot about it when I made the video. Oh well.
looks like a flight stick. have you tried playing any flying games with it?
That flight stick is awesome. Yeah the mad Katz light gun is the best thing they made for the Dreamcast.
this control stick will be awesome in the Gundam Dreamcast game
If you were saying you had one coming, how did that controller perform for Gundam on Dreamcast?
@straitJacketFashion No, I have not. Who knows, it might work well.
Thanks for watching, much appreciated.
I had that a long time ago for my PC and I loved it so much.
@toddieo1 Yes, US, Europe, and Japan as well as Independent releases.
the MC2 wheel is awesome, response customization ect. Best wheel I've ever used on the DC and I've used all the US ones. i know you said what you said on 0:33 but the matcatz wheel set is great. and considering all the DC stuff you own I really think you should own it.

@SegaDreamcastWorld Thanks.
It seems like a flight stick or HOTAS just without the "T."
Actually, Mad catz made one of the best steering wheel, called the MC2, for this console.
I used to play quake 3 arena with that shitty stick lol
Thanks for the recommendation I don't have a racing wheel yet I'll consider the Mad katz one
