I am going to disagree with you, once the foundation of some rocks set up, it just kept piling up. all it needed was a few large rocks to hold it's place. What's interesting about these land/rock slides is that when they stop moving, they firm up, lock tight almost immediately (something like dried concrete) and require lots of work to move again.
Seems silly to allow all this rubble to flood the road. Wondering why the road builders didn’t include a runoff shed to cover the roadway so the rubble flow over the road and down into the valley below.
Unfortunately we were not entitled to “see” what was down hill from the runoff whether it be a village, farms or valley. In my area road builders constructed several “snow sheds” over the roadway in mountainous sections so snow from avalanches in winter time didn’t block the highway and impede traffic. Similar concept used for rail lines in mountainous areas too.
Absolutely not in Switzerland ! It takes place on " col du Lautaret" road ( Lautaret path) , in french Alps. Between Grenoble and Briançon . We are on the eastern part of that path , toward Briançon , in river Guisane' valley. The torrent of Rif is on left side of Guisane. The old "tunnel" allowed the National road n° 91 to be be protected against such flows of water mixed to stones. As it was too narrow for modern traffic, they built the new road outside of the tunnel ! Unhappily @@@

Well there are some chickens who want to cross, hence the civil engineers and road construction crews ready to satisfy that chicken urge and gravity's too. Generally, though, A to B takes the straightest route and blithely ignores the middle.

Another flow was approaching when the video ended.
Yeah looks to me that the photographer would have been in the line of fire for the next debris flow..... But that just my layman's perspective.
Impressive what the guard rail held.
Especially true given the fact that a Volkswagen missed that very turn and drove through that same guard rail the summer before.

What did I watch right there, Who designed that , and placed a road right at the end of it?
That's exactly what I was thinking.
The road is in the tunnel which protects it from avalanches or land slides
That's a gold mine!!! Natural rock for landscaping and home building!!
Don't even have to bring it down the mountain!
There was another large debris flow coming when the video ended. 2:17, another minute would have been nice. Thumbs down

it's a shame that you're not in charge

who puts a road there???
It doesn't happen very often and the cars use the tunnel while it is cleaned. There are also avalanches in the winter.

It's just a semi-circular tunnel that pass under the stream.
Since there are earth movers ready, I take it this was expected?
