I love camping. I don’t care if it rains. Tip for wet/ Sandy shoes in the tent. Take a large plastic bag ( those blue IKEA bags are ideal) when you step in the tent, step into the open bag and take off your shoes then the mud and wet stay in the bag.

Why do I hate camping/hiking/being in rural outdoors/countryside? 1. Dangerous animals. People whine all the time about how there are dangerous and "toxic" people (which is bogus, because ANYONE can be toxic - look at the positivity cult people who judge you for not being happy and positive) but so to can animals be assholes. Especially dangerous ones who have no qualms with eating you. Now of course, if your into the religion of evolution/science, you MIGHT support this, but not me. So if an animal attacks a person unprovoked, yeah, that animal deserves to die and that person shouldn't be attacked! Did you know bears actually break into homes too, as do other creatures and insects? Which leads into my next point 2. Majority of insects - Aside from butterflies and honey-bees (you keep their distance, they usually stay away from you), most insects are a nuisance at best and deadly at worse - especially for those who are allergic. It ain't fun being a feast for mosquitoes, even if you are wearing organic bug repellent and if you encounter a swarm of killer bees or fire ants, etc. especially those exotic ones like bullet ants - most people learn probably best to avoid them (which is kinda hard when your outdoors). Of course, bugs get indoors as well as outdoors, but they're LESS of them indoors. Just a fact and if you DO have insect pests, thank gosh for them house centipedes, they can kill cockroaches, ants, spiders (semi-unfortunately, because they do play a part in killing some of the pesky insects), bed bugs, etc. All the same though, I'm not interested being in bug territory and contracting deadly parasitic diseases like malaria or dengue fever, bot flies, gangrene from sand flies, etc - try looking that up - you bet those people were NOT happy having got that. 3. The Sun - Reality/factually is that not everyone seeks to become a piece of burnt sweet potato, or worse. Yes, its shallow but hey, its easier to avoid the sun and getting an unwanted tan than spending weeks/months later trying to scrub it off - and yes it DOES get costly removing a natural tan. 4. The general outdoors - Okay, I get it. Nature is beautiful to some people, but so to does also indoor locations. I am more excited seeing the inside of an opera house or an old building than looking at the ocean, a field, the forest, or mountains. My interest in the outdoors at peak is three minutes at best - 2 usually. I can look at the visuals and be like - "Okay, I'm done. That's all I need to see". I don't need to go out and smell the trees, smell the flowers, sleep in the dirt, and behave like an animal or tree hugger. Also, just because one is an indoors person doesn't mean they want to all cut down all trees or pollute the planet - another common myth dispelled. 5. Deadly Weather - Yes, there are dangerous EVERYWHERE - BUT it is unlikely your going to get immediately hit with a downpour inside your home, unless your in a hurricane and it does destroy your home. So to with tornadoes, but they usually destroy your home, as does flash floods. I actually like rain, but as said, I can enjoy it for 3minutes - 15 minutes if its a REALLY hot day and I can't afford to go to an indoor natural pool (which is FAR BETTER - seriously, there needs to be more indoor natural pools. Natural hot springs, yo - and the ancestors built buildings around them - best of both worlds! Granted, they didn't always have good plumbing but we can learn from them) but after that, I'm good. And if I don't want to go out and be in the rain to cool off, I can do it indoors in my shower and I can get to relax and have a home spa (home spas are so relaxing and so much fun, and far cheaper than the more expensive spas). I'll take an indoor spa day over a rainy day outdoors any day. So all in all, if I want to see the beauty of nature, that's what windows and coffee table picture books or the telly is for, I can enjoy looking at it without getting into it and when I do have to go from point A to point B, C, D, E, etc indoors - yeah I have to subject myself to it, but I don't take any interest really in it. My interest is people, good and bad, and just enjoying relaxing indoors either by going to a dance class, going to a library, going to a theater or opera, or the movies, go to a roller skating rink, etc. There is a breath of activity to do indoors. Not bad for so-called couch potatoes, eh? :)

I remember on our honeymoon I took my new bride camping. It rained solid and on the day we departed the sun came out. Well, after 36 years we are still married but, I go camping by myself nowadays. Funny, when the kids were young I still find myself packing for four. I just watched your video and I think everyone in the family deserves a merit badge for sticking it through. Yes, David, hang in there because the good camping trips do make up for the nasty ones. Thanks for sharing. By the way, your kids are adorable.

A tip for you. In this part of the world (I'm in Ireland) always... I mean ALWAYS... Expect rain & winds. If you prepare for that, but end up with sunshine, it's a bonus.
I love camping, but I always expect rain. Once prepared for that, the correct clothing etc... It becomes an absolute joy.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not a wild camper who goes off into the hills. Like yourselves, my wife & I like our comforts... Electricity in tent etc.
I'd urge you to keep at it... Getting out of the solid walls for a few days is a great reset. Plus... You're giving your kids very fond memories. All the best to you... Keep up the camping!!

Ireland still wins in terms of rain but we’re not too far behind you!! If you camp in Mayo, that would be classed as Wild Camping out here!! 🤣😂 I’ll give it another try and I’ll be ready and expecting rain, this time!! Cheers! 😎👍

I founded that when you have the right tent that suits your family needs and can stand against a storm it makes camping so much more pleasant for example in south Africa i found that a tent with a wall tent structure are the best against the elements as we had a super bad experience under wind conditions on a Campsite that ripped our previous tent a part. That was a traumatic trip and now I have this wall tent structure tent that opens 2 sides in which 1 side a make into a shower/ bathroom exit and the other side the entrance to kitchen. It really works for Our family. So find the problem you have in camping and adjust to your needs. Also quick drying towels is so much beter to use. So have fun and dont give up. Find your way how you would like camping.

Greetings from Germany, I spent every summer of my childhood on a British campsite (we drove from Germany and camped for 3 weeks straight)…this is EXACTLY what I remember! Gumboots, wet laundry, wind, cups of tea to keep warm. I swore I would never go camping ever again. 20 years later, guess what my holiday plans are with my husband and 3 kids this summer??? 😄 Okay, so not in Britain this time (Cornwall looks amaaazing though!) but the weather has been miserable everywhere in Europe from what I hear. Boiling heat, torrential rains and hail storms. Can’t wait….Thanks for the vid, it was very helpful, will show this to my husband so he is mentally disillusioned. Another tip would be get a windbreak to deflect wind from the entrance to your tent. It makes a huge different in a storm and makes it more comfortable to sit behind in shelter from the wind.

:) I’m at peace now knowing I hate the outdoors because it does nothing for me, I don’t find it interesting, I actually find it stress inducing, even with having survival skills and prep supplies in advance, I don’t like the bugs, I don’t like hiking, etc. I tried it for years and I realized it’s not for me. The one good thing is I can take my self sufficiency into the city and if there are other self sufficient people in the city like my husband and I and focus on God. That’s all that matters to us.
