You've lost that loving feeling is a good one from them. Live Enjoy your reactions
They were truly timeless. This was recorded over 50 years ago 🎉
King. Well done. Fantastic choice. Beautiful Beautiful ........ Beautiful!
The Righteous Brothers could literally sing in any genre. They are Bobby Hatfield, countertenor, and Bill Medley, bass-baritone.
Blue Eyed Soul is what it is called. You are not 'ignorant', you are being inquisitive: that is a very good trait.
They were truly AMAZING❤
During this time, we pretty much only had three tv stations to choose from. The Ed Sullivan Show was an American television variety show and was hosted by a New York Entertainment columnist named Ed Sullivan it ran from 1948 till 1971 and the show welcomed all sorts of musicians, comedians, circus acts, Broadway ensembles and even puppet acts. The show ran on the CBS station. The song "Unchained Melody" was featured in the movie "Ghost" with stars such as, Patrick Swayze, Demi Moore, and Whoopi Goldberg. Here's another one of their big hit songs live *"Righteous Brothers - Rock N Roll Heaven on American Bandstand 30th Anniversary Special 1981"* they are considered to be under the genre of blue-eyed soul, R&B music. I enjoyed your reaction thanks for sharing.
The Ed Sullivan show was "The" variety show of the 60's -70"s.
OK I am from that generation. I am 72 years of age. They were considered the blue eyes souls. Yes they were Christians. And they brought soul and open the door for other white bands, especially the UK to come out and sing the blues. Back in those days we went up against the wall to be who we were. It was a very hard time wanting to have everybody to have rights. A lot of the singers of the Animals. for one came up with the blues as well. What you might not know back in the 50s and 60s nobody had rights and we came to change it. I’m still trying to change it. It was horrific time. Hippies had to use the back door to enter a restaurant. I’m Jewish and my one roommate who was black couldn’t believe the similarities we both encountered. The prejudices and I am still fighting up against the wall with that. Our music was different because we were telling the world you’re not gonna stop us from filming. We’re not going to live anymore by the rules of your game. Thank you for asking questions. You are amazing. An old hippie he doesn’t remember what 70s supposed to feel like but I do remember the 1960s and early 70s
It’s called blue eyed soul in those days
Music from the 60's and 70's is the best. People sang with emotion and it wasn't masked over with autotune.
This is gospel .... but these guys were soul singers. The sang rock, doo wop, R&B, blues and ballads ... they felt their music and made sure their audience felt it too. They were named 'Righteous' by the black community and it was not in a religious sense - it meant 'cool, right on, bitchin', solid' etc etc... whatever the current term for really great music.
Thank you for recognizing the excellence of the music of “My Day”!
The first music reaction popped up on my phone 3 years ago. I had been requesting 50s and 60s songs on RUclips and I think that’s why RUclips decided I would like reactions to those songs. I have checked out a lot of different reactors and love seeing young people (I’m 79) freaking out over the best music ever!
You're right young man 50's to 80's great music, country included.
The Ed Sullivan show was a weekly variety show and was on TV from the late 1940s to the early 1970s. In one hour, you could see comedy, dance, singers from opera to rock n roll, acrobats...I'm sure I'm forgetting something. It was considered must see TV.
There is an Ed Sullivan Show channel on RUclips. They are still adding performances to it.
As someone already mentioned the genre was blue-eyed soul (or Rock and Roll). I've heard it commented by several black commenters "I can't believe they are not black'!
If you had watched a slightly longer clip for Unchained Melody that contained banter between Bill Medley (Arnold Schwarzenegger 🙂), Bobby Hatfield (the countertenor from Unchained Melody), and the show's host Andy Williams (and excellent singer in his own right) they told how the group got its name. They were singing near a Marine Camp and after the show a black marine said Hey, that's righteous, brothers and they adopted the name. I don't know if it still has the same meaning now, but back then "righteous" was slang (especially in black circles) for meaning REALLY good.
According to a fairly recent interview with Bill Medley, he and Bobby were both religious, which I took to mean Christian (I'm pretty sure that Bill was Christian.) Bobby passed away in his sleep in 2003 from a heart attack induced by cocaine (congenital heart defect set off by cocaine). I PRAY that he made it to heaven despite the cocaine use - I really want to meet him some day. He got very nervous about his performances, which MAY have been why he took the cocaine. Once he got started you could never tell that he was nervous, but in that mini-interview just before Unchained Melody, he seemed a bit out of breath or hyperventilating.
It tickled me that you thought Bill looked a bit like Arnold Schwarzenegger, because in that mini-interview Bobby referred to Bill as the skinny one. To see that brief interview tacked on to the performance of Unchained Melody:
ruclips.net/video/m0EBs6uRgtw/видео.html It's not worth another review but I think you'd enjoy the interview.
Check out both doing Soul and Inspiration and You've Lost That Loving Feeling.
Blessings and Peace!
I agree with what you said about music being better in the 50’s through the 80’s and some of the 90’s.
Bill and Bobby were like salt and pepper in that they were opposite yet perfect together. Bobby always gave us a surprise note. Together they never disappoint. Us boomers were really more Kool than we realized with music from the fifties beebop to this meld of blue eyed soul.
Yes they were Christians. On every album they decided to each have a solo and always to have at least one gospel song. At the end of this song Bill sang You'll and then Bobby sang Never Walk and together they sang Alone. It's beautiful go back and listen to it again. Bobby sings these songs My Prayer and also Crying in the Chapel both are beautiful.
That was true music, talent, class with words with meaning.
These brothers will not disappoint you. The Ed Sullivan show was us baby boomers watched in the 1960's. These guys were awesome. I have all their vinyl record albums in my collection. These guys were awesome when our in 1964! ❤❤❤❤
The genre was referred to as blue-eyed soul.
Auto tune is not necessary when you're talented, like these guys were. Auto tune hides one's lack of talent.
You said 'voice control',,, all the singers and groups of the 50s, 60s, 70's, and 80s had quality voices and control.
They ŵere inducted intothe Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.❤❤
Bobby sang some songs that could be religious ' He, My Prayer, Crying in the Chaple ,
Somewhere. Beautiful enough to. Bring tears
...
They started with R&B and then they were given the label of blue eyed soul.
You think it's crazy that they didn't have AutoTune back then. Heck, we didn't have COMPUTERS back then!
You are correct, it was less forgiving. The artists added endless hours of hard work to their talent.
Now go listen to their greatest hit: "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'."
Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield got the name when a "brother" jumped up at the end of a song and yelled "That's Righteous Brother"
You say "like" hundreds of times.
We had people that could actually sing in the 50's and sixties
Please listen to summertime by Bobby
Its insane💖💖💖
Top shelf blue eyed soul.
The Ed Sullivan Show was on CBS-TV for many years from the '50s into the '70s on Sunday nights and was one of the last of the "variety" shows, bringing musical artists, comedians, jugglers, circus acts, magicians, puppeteers, and pretty much anything and everything. Ed Sullivan was a newspaperman who knew the entertainment business, even though his presence on TV was about as awkward and weird as anyone who ever appeared on television. Sullivan was the one who first brought The Beatles to America, and the episodes of his show where the Beatles performed are some of the highest rated primetime TV shows in history. The Ed Sullivan Show also originated from the same theater in New York City that today carries his name. The Ed Sullivan Theater is where The Late Show with David Letterman originated. And today, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert originates there.
That was real talent.
Ed Sullivan hosted a variety show, which had not only musical acts (Rock, pop, r&b, etc) but also comedians, dancers, magic acts, you name it. It was before my time, but some classic TV stations still carry it.
My grandma and grandfather watched the ed Sullivan show😇😓Rip
I am almost 68 and remember watching the Ed Sullivan Show.

They were called blue eyed soul. White singers who sung soul..
They were blue-eyed soul. A DJ in Philly after meeting them started calling them his blue-eyed soul brothers because they both have blue eyes. That is the origin of the term.
Watch..You've Lost that Loving Feeling.
you mentioned autotune, its bad, it covers poor voices and makes them acceptable. if that bothers you, as it should, use the available technology to gather support to force record companies from using it by NO LONGER BUYING THEIR PRODUCT. Maybe then you will get good singers again.
You’ Never Walk Alone is from the Broadway musical Carousel by Rodgers & Hammerstein from 1945. It sounds religion but it’s very secular. I’m very old but love your comments.
The Ed Sullivan show was THE show to be on for all major artists. The Beatles first American performance was in 1964 on Ed Sullivan.
The Ed Sullivan show was a weekly variety show
Blond is Bobby Hatfield. , Dark Hair is Bill Medley
"You'll Never Walk Alonr" was written for the Broadway musical, "Carousel" in the 1950's. I was a very young girl who was fortunate enough to see this musical performed live on stage. This song is a tear jerker when you know the meaning behind it.. It has to do with a wife and daughter moving forward in life after their husbsnd/father died.
His bobby hatifield thoe originial righterous brother
If You like this version of this song then You should also listen to Gerry & Pacemakers version of You'll Never Walk Alone which has been adopted by the sports team Liverpool Football Club in England as their anthem
Their type of music was called blue-eyed soul.
You should do a little research before you react to a video. Don't admit your ignorance. Reaction is something you want to do to influence people and show your own knowledge and build your own subscription base. People watch you to hear your comments regarding the artists skills and how the music is arranged, etc. You should know!
Ed Sullivan was a variety show in the 60s, If you want real blues and Soul, Listen to The righteous brothers do I just want to make love.
There was a lot of good music in the eighties and nineties too. Then, maybe five years after the turn of the millennium, I stopped listening to new music. Everything sounds like I've heard it before or overproduced. But there will surely be an artist who will get me back on track.
ed sullivan had a variety show, and any act who was booked for that show had really 'made it'. just as an example, rhe ed sullivan show was the introduction for most americans to acts such as the beatles, elvis presley, the rolling stones, and others. the righteous bros were what was called blue eyed soul. they were greatly influenced by black soul singers, early rock, and more. this song was a great example of their versatility, but just a little different from most of what they did.
The Ed Sullivan show was one of the first among many variety shows back in those days. A variety show featured different types of acts (variety) such as music, comedy, magicians, stunts, etc. -- all in a stage-like setting before a studio audience. I liked your analysis of artists being in situations less forgiving in those days. Very true. There were only three networks to make or break it on (ABC, CBS and NBC), and artists had to have the goods to get show time.
Listen to Elvis sing this
Oldies but Goodies
Arnold Swazrnicker and James bond brother?! Ha ha! Arnold has something on the OUTSIDE just NOTHING on the inside like the Righteous Brothers cause they are plain dynamite 🧨🧨 during their time!! Very professional! This song means God is with you always when you believe in God thru his son! You Will Never Walk Alone!!
They sang anything.
Thire Not Brothers
Beautiful Tear Jerker😢
58 years ago, on November 7th, 1965. Bariton Bill Medley and Counter Tenor Bobby Hatfield "The Righteous Brothers." Gave one of the best performances of this song "You'll Never Walk Alone."
On the Ed Sullivan Show. The song is from the 1945 Broadway Musical "Carousel." In (1956) eleven years later a movie starring Gorden Macrae and Shirley Jones was also made. Gordon Macrae would sing the song in the movie. In 1963 British Rock group "Gerry and the Pacemakers." Would bring this song into the music pop charts and Billboards Top 100.
The song by Gerry and the Pacemakers would become immortalized in England and in the United Kingdom. As a rallying cry and fight song sung in stadiums all over Europe.
The song is still being sung today in soccer stadiums throughout Europe and the United Kingdom.
Sing it boys!!! ❤❤❤ them to much soul!!!
