    Thanks so much for this video! I’ve just received this exact same kiln and can’t wait to set it up! Just wondering where your kiln is set up (garage?) and if you have it vented? Thanks!!

      I do have my kiln set up in my garage. I have a back and front garage door so with fans I am able to have enough ventilation.

      Try FB Marketplace, or reach out to schools in your area. Sometimes schools sell kilns not being utilized.

    Did your test fire go as planned? I did mine using the pre-programmed setting for 04 and it fired too hot. As a complete kiln and ceramics newbie I guess I expected the program to just work without an issue and I am too unknowledgeable to understand why it didn't work. All my other electronics in life work right out of the box. Feeling like I bit off more than I could chew because I was excited to start a new hobby.

      Thanks for your question. I am no expert, I am still trying to figure these things out myself. The temperature settings in these kilns are not perfect. I have noticed it depends on how you load the kiln, what you load it with. Whether the peeps are open or closed. So many variables!

    Hello! I’m considering buying this exact same model for myself from clay king. There are a lot of add ons I could get…but I’m not sure what all is actually needed since my community studio fired everything for me. What do you suggest? Some of the options are - kiln vent, envirolink, kiln stand, etc. The kiln would be in an attached, cemented floor garage. I would fire it with the garage door open, but there aren’t any fans or windows aside from that. Thank you in advance for your advice!

      How exciting! I got my kiln from Clay King too! 1) kiln vent is not needed if you have a way to vent fumes. In my garage I am able to keep several doors open and I use 2 big box fans to keep fresh air flow. I suggest getting a carbon monoxide monitor for your area just to be sure. 2) I do not have an envirolink either. 3) I have a hand made kiln stand with wheels, because I do not have a permanent place for my kiln. Kiln stand also makes it easier to clean your kiln area. The Skutt kiln comes with a stationary kiln stand. 3) You will need to purchase kiln shelves and post “furniture kit” 4) I highly recommend the KMT touchscreen!!! So easy to use!

    Loved the video thank you. I’m saving for the SKUTT 818. You said your Kiln was firing at different levels when you did the testing. How do you correct that so it all fires at the same cone please

      I think it depends on how tightly you pack the kiln. I am still trying to figure it out. Mine seems to be hotter on the bottom.

    Hi ! I just got the smaller version of this kiln and put it in the garage and I noticed that you have a fan behind yours, I assume it is for ventilation ? Have you had any issues with gases coming out of the kiln during firing ? Or any smells ? Thank you

    • @HardShellSlimySnail
      @HardShellSlimySnail  Год назад +1

      Since my kiln is in my garage. I crack the garage door by about one foot. I always run two fans when I use the kiln. I have one pointed at the kiln, and then one at the garage door venting the fumes out. You will for sure get fumes, especially with glaze firing. It’s also a good idea to have a carbon monoxide alarm in area as well.

      @@HardShellSlimySnail Thank you so much, that was really helpful !
      One last question please : Does the garage smell bcuz of the fumes or you haven't noticed it and the fans are good enough to vent out all the smells ?
      I'm just worried about that bcuz it is my very first kiln and I have to be as safe as possible ! 😭

    • @HardShellSlimySnail
      @HardShellSlimySnail  Год назад +2

      @@moea3413 I haven’t really noticed a smell. I think burning at that hot of a temp your not going to have a bad smell. It’s the scary fumes that don’t smell that are dangerous. So as long as you have a door/window open and a fan blowing the fumes out you should be ok.

    Thanks for this, I just got a new skutt and am still figuring it all out. Since it seemed to over fire did you end up having to adjust what program you use or do you just use the pre programmed cones? I've read a lot of people do cone 5 +15 min hold to reach cone 6.

    • @HardShellSlimySnail
      @HardShellSlimySnail  2 года назад +1

      Now that I have used the kiln more the firing seems to have evened out more. I’m not sure if it was just that first fire? Or it may be that the more objects in the kiln the heat is distributed better? I’m still learning. ☺️

  • @Carlitaczt18

    Hi! I just received my kiln and prepping to do my first firing, it is the exact same model as yours! when you placed the cones you did 03 04 and 05 for each level? this is my first kiln ever.

    • @HardShellSlimySnail
      @HardShellSlimySnail  2 года назад

      So happy for you! It’s a great kiln! For your test run and for a couple more kiln runs, I did put the cones on 3 levels of the shelves; the bottom, middle and top. It’s a good way to see if the kiln has colder or hotter areas.

    Does it come with the furniture set or you have to buy it separate?

    • @HardShellSlimySnail
      @HardShellSlimySnail  2 года назад

      It does not come with the kiln shelves or furniture. You have to purchase separate. It did come with an extra thermocouple, peep plugs and a metal stand to place it on. The stand does not have wheels, so if you need a base with wheels you can buy that separate.
