    The defensive ring strategy.
    Outer defences. Inner defences.
    After all, it's war.

There’s certainly a lot of water coming down that hill! You are winning though!

This is getting more and more like a Moore n Cook sketch " Been down the drains all my life" 😂. Bless your heart, will it ever end! Stirling work, well done. 👏👏👍

I'm no expert but from my experience the size of those gravel stones could be a problem in time when they assest and with the weight of the ground/paving above it because it could perforate the pipe.
It's advisable to put thin sand immediately below and above the piping covering it for protection and only then add the gravel.
Admiration goes for your hard work.

Yikes. It looks like the trench I dug along the side of my allotment. 😬 My condolences.

Your house is going to be so much drier. It has lasted all these years with just the rudimentary drainage you started with. Everything you are doing can only improve matters.Well done sir!

I really like your style and attitude, I often wish I had the benefit of hindsight prior to the job.😉 Anyhoo, you chose the perfect day to dig with a ‘lubricated’ spade.🤣

You're doing very well for someone who is learning as you go. The location of your house vis a vis groundwater is a really challenging problem to solve. I do think you're going about it the right way. The Terrace should be built up with compacted washed gravel (no fines) to encourage that draining, perhaps topped with a paver patio or similar. Above all, the only thing that concerns me is that one 100mm solid pipe is expected to drain all this groundwater behind the house plus a significant fraction of the rain gutter runoff from the back half of the roof. I am concerned about capacity and, what may happen in the event it is overwhelmed. Keep going Lewis.

More great progress 😀 the house will be so dry this winter. Ground works are always the most unpredictable of things so don’t beat yourself up for not expecting more drainage.

Not sure if it's helpful in your case... my backyard held water as the a natural low bowl collecting water from multiple yards. Over a a two year period, I dug 17 drains of varying lengths & depths to redirect the water. In the end, they all connected at some point, but once the final drain was in the difference was incredible. I just kept following the water to determine where to place the next drain.

The water coming down from hillside drain may flow back to the drain near the house.
You will need to check and tend that

How will you deal with the water in the bank before it gets to you drain?? Will you build a wall with drainage behind it? 🇬🇧🇬🇧👍👍
