Four years after this video first appeared, the Government of Indonesia and the United Nations now take the steps to make the maturing concept of this green school spread over the globe, starting with the great archipelago of Indonesia. The REDD+ Agency of Indonesia, reporting directly to the President, has a program that today reached out to 200 local version of green schools (and growing by day) and will cross fertilize with the Bali Green School. The 20% local poor family students on scholarship here is part of the beginning of a huge number of students anywhere to be beneficiary of this 'connecting learning with life' concept - the United Nations connection will help make it work. The Memorandum of Understanding signed on August 28, 2014 marked this occasion.

It is a challenge in the Middle East to implement this idea fully because of the geographical constraints but if we cannot do great things in small way; we can always do small things in great way. Cheers to this innovative concept!

1justice, you're right about this not being a school for the poor and this is the sad fact: your 'poor' will not choose this school and if you cajole or even force them, it will only break your heart. (I teach in a school w/c helps sons of poor farmers and fisherfolks in Asia.) Allow them then to choose situations that are compatible with their mind frame. Respect their freedom.

@MatosPianoMan Yes and the poor children may have lessons in old concrete buildings. But as always in history, initiatives start with the rich and later on the development is for everybody else.

I love the design and the Idea. But almost 12,000 USD annual fees is not that Green. Your parents must be really very Green to be able to afford that amount. Again I would say well done. I just hope they let some poor kids get the education for Free.

+Karim Lamrani A good bit of it goes into sponsoring other students. Additionally, I think it's inclusive of food and accommodation.

Does anyone know other schools in the world that share the same educational philosophy? All I've been exposed to is home schooling and something called 'montessory' schools.
