Synopsis: The Sunlit Night follows an aspiring painter (Jenny Slate) from New York City to the farthest reaches of Arctic Norway for an assignment she hopes will invigorate her work and expand her horizons. In a remote village, among the locals, she meets a fellow New Yorker (Alex Sharp), who has come in search of a proper Viking funeral only to find that the Chief (Zach Galifianakis) is but a re-enactor from Cincinnati. The eclectic crew ranges from "home" to "lost," within the extreme and dazzling landscape of the Far North. Under a sun that never quite sets, and the high standards of an unforgiving mentor, Frances must navigate between ambition, desire, obligation, and risk in order to find a way forward.

This is a sweet, slight, slip of a movie with a sweet heart and a lovely main character.
Yes. It's uneven and not all the casting works, but I love the Jenny Slate. So I really enjoyed all its eccentricity, flaws and all.

Jenny Slate is the most busiest, talented,versatile and greatest actress of this generation but she is underrated actress . She deserves more than Oscar. She needs fame, popularity and recognition for busy doing several films like 7 - 11 films a year in which 70% ( majority) are masterpieces and 30% ( minority) are dumb but actors like Anne Hathaway and Natalie Portman have gained recognition.

okay as the person who actually read the book none of the characters actually look like anything I had envisioned in my mind and apparently a lot of people felt the same given the score it received, I'm nearly two years late to the party and I had no idea that this film had even been released....😐

How is this a real comment? Did you read the book? There are pretty much zero “American being surprised abroad” scenes. Also there’s nothing inherently wrong with the concept of travel - please, do us all a favor and point out what’s specifically wrong about it in this instance with actual film or book knowledge to back it up.

I imagine it would be! Often or not, the story on paper doesn't translate well to screen. It's filmed in Norway, so the location at least is a plus.
