This is an absolute class act. I can't think of ANY music act that ever took time out to do an instructional video like this. This should earn everyone's respect.
How can anyone dislike this video? It's the definitive way to play this taught extremely well by the artist himself. It doesn't get much better. The guy took out the time to do this which he didn't have to do. Thank you, Dave!
No better way to learn how to play a Lady Antebellum than have an actual person from Lady Antebellum teach it to you themself! This was pretty damn awsome and he made it so easy. Also, I love how he says "Now, I'm not an expert at guitar" yet he's a guitar player for a famous country group. Really shows you that, yes, there are a few stars left who know how to remain humble. He seems really nice, like an uncle that I'd want to hang out with all the time lol. Thanks again for the tutorial!
Why there are 99 unlike👎🏼 from this video? It’s Dave Haywood from lady Antebellum teaching the chords. Sorry I’m a beginner learning to play guitar and watching tutorials on RUclips but to see the original guitarist of a band teaching the method, is freaking awesome. Am I missing something here?
Seriously, more bands need to do this. Not only does it do a great job at promoting the song, but it really connects the band to their fans. Dave's effort on this video has only further sold me on Lady Antebellum. Well done!!
Could not agree more. As a long time guitar player, its wonderful to see the actual artist show how he does it, instead of trying to keep it a secrete. After a couple of views I was able to play it exactly ...Now if Dave could only teach me to sing???:)
Seeing these videos just gives me even more respect for Dave and Lady Antebellum, you don't see many artists these days who truly take the time to help out there fans and other musicians who are still learning and who look up to them. Thank you so much Dave for showing your appreciation and encouragement to fans and musicians.
Thanks, Dave! It's great to see an artist so willing to share how to play a song the *right* way, rather than just leaving it up to the tab sites. My respect for you and your band continues to grow because of things like this.
So cool of them to post this video. Unbelievably cool. Nothing gets you more into music than learning how to play it and who else teaches you exactly how!
All the notes are the same on all guitars, but I just love when artists share how they approach their songs. It opens fresh ideas of creativity for the rest of us. Many thanks!!! Keep up the good work!
I am learning how to play guitar as part of my sons Senior HS project....and I was looking for a song to learn on my own as a surprise for him.....THIS IS PERFECT....Thanks so much for taking time out our your busy schedule to do this.
This is amazing. There is so much turmoil about learning songs, tabs, lessons, etc. It's absolutely fantastic to see a band being willing to teach their own songs to people. Not only is it a great benefit to your fans, but you're going to have an army of us fans out there singing your praises (literally) to all who will listen. This can be nothing but good for you (and for us). It's great to see a band recognize that win-win situation and take advantage of it.
Mr Haywood...... I liked the song when I first heard it. But to see the actual artist teaching how to play the song on here. I am totally impressed. Now I hope all artists of your high caliber follow your great example. My hat off to you sir!
Good to see you guys aren't paranoid about sharing this stuff, apart from the fact that we could figure it out ourselves, you just add to your popularity with this type of thing. After all, it's a great flattery to see other people doing covers of something you all (in front and behind the scenes) put so much work into, looking forward to buying the album.
Wow..I typed in "How to Play on guitar" your beautiful song, not dreaming for a second that you would the one teaching me....How fantastic is this....Gee thanks a million Dave.....from Down Under..:)
For those wondering why this song is in E Major - the song starts with A chord, because it is the fourth chord of E Major scale. But the main chord still remains E. The B chord is dominant chord that leads to E. The c sharp minor is the minor fourth chord, built on the six note of the E Major scale. The g sharp minor chord is a minor tonic chord built on the third note of the E Major scale. Here you go, a quick harmony analysis! These are the basic chords built on very basic degrees of the Major scale. A proof that you don't need complicated harmonic solutions to write a good song. Enjoy as much as I did!
Great explanation and tutorial of what you play and recorded! I can't believe the knuckleheads that gave this a THUMBS DOWN! It still boggles my mind! Thanks again for taking the time to post this, much appreciated!
I've been playing guitar for +28yrs now and this is the very first time I see the guitarist of a band teaching how to play the song the *right* way. This is telling me how much appreciation you have for the Fans, thank you Dave.
There is a Nancy Wilson video out there showing how to play "Dog and Butterfly". It starts out somewhat simple and then she actually plays it with a bunch of different chords/variations and it gets complicated in a big hurry, lol. But yeah, it's great to have the actual player give a lesson. Kudos to Dave!
Dave this is truly special that your putting your lesson out on the web for need you now. just saw you guys in San Diego at the Lakeside rodeo center.. your now my top band.. I play in a band called Ray Mo in SD and have a feeling someday we'll meet up.
I loved this song from the first time a friend introduced me to it, and at the time I thought is was a marvelous song. Now, with this explanation I understand it's a 100% genius. Chords are simple to learn, but powerful when mastered. Thank you so much for this.
Josep
very classy thing to do. made me break out my sunburst Gibson SJ200 tv and start playing early this morning. thanks LadyA. classy as always. Cheers from the Walters family
Dave, it's great that you put this on. I wish other groups would follow your lead and post their work as well. Instead of suing us, teach us your songs and you have a life long fan. Plus, where do they think the next artist is going to grow from? Way to go Dave.
Brilliant!! Fell in love with this song from the moment I heard it, and as has already been said a couple of million times already, hats off to you, Dave, for taking the time to show us all how to play it properly! Thank you. :-)
Dave - really nice training video. The song blew me away - saw it switching channels this morning (on MTV) while I was half asleep. I don't even watch MTV. The piano has a beautifully haunting quality. The song is an absolute winner on all levels. Moving - will be on my iPhone!
excellent that he is showing how to play it correctly. Very generous of him and this is a hauntingly beautiful song. I am an accomplished player of over 40 years been looked at by Sony and other reps back in the day and can tell you stick with the guitar you can do it and don't be afraid to dream big!
This is pure class from Dave Haywood. Not only is he a great musician/guitarist, he's so articulate and soft spoken with his instruction. What a great guy!!
Thumbs up! I can't sing but I love playing guitar and playing correctly. It's hard to find a tab any more accurate or complete than this on the internet. Top quality, my thanks.
Hi Dave, thank you so much for posting this. It made me drag out my old guitar from the attic and start playing again. My wife was impressed. That was so cool!!! Can't get enough of this song.
LADY EHH~!!! with Keith Urban in Winnipeg!!! The show was amazing!! Thnks so much for coming to our town, We were so glad to have you, please come again anytime!!! Especially when you are headlining!!!!
I love this song..You wouldn't think it just by my appearence I can't stop listening to it, and I don't know how I can do without, I just need you now!! Take care M.Dmon
What stuck in my mind the most was when you said "I'm no expert at guitar". You NEVER hear artists talk like that, and I was plesently surprised. It seams to me that your not letting fame go straight to your head, which is a good thing! Keep up all the good work! I'm DEFFINETLY going to be able to learn this song now!
Dave thanks not many artiist will do this for the guitar players . Thanks Just saw you guys week back amazing job you guys are great . Great tune as an old bartender believe this thing getting played a lot across America on bar jukeboxes.
I live a few miles from the Lady A amphitheater in Evans and we consider you guys our hometown band. I really think it is great that you took the time to show us how you play Need you Now. Now I just need to practice more. Thanks again.
Looks like he's varying it with down-strums on the Verse and Up and Downs on the Chorus. Mostly an eighth note strum-(two per beat) He does change it up though, with dynamics- playing louder and softer, and perhaps missing on down strum beat three sometimes. It's a free feel type thing. He's definitely a great rhythm player. Hard for beginners to imitate that kind of feel. Great Lesson.
how amazing is he. seriously. he makes it so easy unlike some tutorials where its like they just tell you the notes to play! he tells you what fingers to use! and its such an amazing feeling when you actualy get it and can play along! I
Thank you for showing us how you play this beautiful song. I'm guessing that this was written about a divorce, certainly holds a spot in my heart, can't stop the tears when I hear it, as it's so beautiful, and yet touching...so much meaning, and it's a shame other artists can't do this today. Great song!
Wow! Nothing better than the original artist teaching how to play. This is so valuable! Thank you a lot! I'm doing a cover of this amazing song and this is a huge plus for me! So much love!
Agree with all others.....not only are you awesome on the guitar but also humble & generous in sharing your knowledge with everyone....thanks a ton! we need more artists like you!
I liked you guys before, but since finding your tutorials online my respect for you grew ten fold... Keep up the good work, and may you have a long, successful career!

Literally what a guy
Brandi Carlile made a guitar tutorial for her song “The Story” on RUclips. Such a good song
Very very few! Kudos to them!
I’m honoured to share this world with good people like him ❤️
i wish more artists did this!!!!
predjee me too!!! There are 99 👎🏼 from the original artist teaching this song. Although he said “I’m not an expert” but still..
What a classy move, sharing your work, chords and technique. Many thanks.
Bill Ritzmann
I know right? I do not listen to this kind of music but I really respect this. Good music.
This is a genuine display of fan appreciation, humility and generosity. What a guy! I’m a fan of the music - and now I’m a fan of the musician.
How can anyone dislike this video? It's the definitive way to play this taught extremely well by the artist himself. It doesn't get much better. The guy took out the time to do this which he didn't have to do. Thank you, Dave!

Agreed!

Seeing these videos just gives me even more respect for Dave and Lady Antebellum, you don't see many artists these days who truly take the time to help out there fans and other musicians who are still learning and who look up to them. Thank you so much Dave for showing your appreciation and encouragement to fans and musicians.
Best tutorial ever!! Not only just that, it's an original band member who's the teacher here!!

This just destroyed every other lesson on how to play this song, exactly what I needed to make this part of my play list, thank you mate🤙🏼
Thank you so much. Wish all performers would do this.
Thanks for uploading this video its good to see that an actual musician takes his time to teach his fans how to play the song.... again thanks a lot
This is outstanding. I wish more artists could share how they actually play their songs for others to learn and enjoy. THANK YOU DAVE!
Mr Haywood...... I liked the song when I first heard it. But to see the actual artist teaching how to play the song on here. I am totally impressed. Now I hope all artists of your high caliber follow your great example. My hat off to you sir!
I love that great songs don't need to be complex. Some basic chords, a great lyric with a nice meolody. Thanks for sharing Dave, most gracious of you.
Taking the time to teach your fans and the public your song is the definition of a class act. I salute you guys!
Wow..I typed in "How to Play on guitar" your beautiful song, not dreaming for a second that you would the one teaching me....How fantastic is this....Gee thanks a million Dave.....from Down Under..:)
Ever since I first watched this video back in '09 I've been playing C and F the same way Dave does, and I've never looked back c:
That was very cool of him to take the time to show guitarists how to play this fantastic song!

So awesome Dave and so humble of you to do this. This is the best put together tutorial I have ever seen. Thanks so much.
This is one of the coolest things an artist has ever done. I hope others follow in his footsteps.

When he said "I'm not an expert on guitar"
Me: eh? C'mon 😆😭

I was like whaaa..?. Then what am I? A dust ball in cowboy movie.
"IM not an expert in guitar, I AM the guitar"

Wow! Awesome tutorial!
Thumbs up! I can't sing but I love playing guitar and playing correctly. It's hard to find a tab any more accurate or complete than this on the internet. Top quality, my thanks.
Thank you. I am also a new fan because of this.
I think it shows a lot of class as an artist to take time and do a "how-to" video and be so modest. Im a fan now
AWESOME! and REALLY appreciated!
Hi Dave, thank you so much for posting this. It made me drag out my old guitar from the attic and start playing again. My wife was impressed. That was so cool!!! Can't get enough of this song.
November 2016👍👍💕💕💕💖
This is the reason I love LADY ANTEBELLUM! What artist would take the time to do this. You guys rock!
now that's lesson! (Y)
LADY EHH~!!! with Keith Urban in Winnipeg!!! The show was amazing!!
Thnks so much for coming to our town, We were so glad to have you, please come again anytime!!! Especially when you are headlining!!!!
What can you do about the F chord if your hands are small like mine that simply can't reach like that no matter what
You can try to an F bar chord
F bar chord will fix that issue. Google beginners bar chords videos. best of luck.
@Bobby Rust well if youre so bad tempered in your lessons as well poor students
I love this song..You wouldn't think it just by my appearence
I can't stop listening to it, and I don't know how I can do without,
I just need you now!!
Take care M.Dmon
my hands are too small to do the thumb thing
And Mine too big! Ugh!!!
Play the F chord barred then, I find it easier playing the F barre chord..ironically 😁

Omg me too his is beautiful I want an electric for Christmas, but I love the sound of acoustic too
Mayari Merchant

I live a few miles from the Lady A amphitheater in Evans and we consider you guys our hometown band. I really think it is great that you took the time to show us how you play Need you Now. Now I just need to practice more. Thanks again.
what are the strumming patterns
Looks like he's varying it with down-strums on the Verse and Up and Downs on the Chorus. Mostly an eighth note strum-(two per beat) He does change it up though, with dynamics- playing louder and softer, and perhaps missing on down strum beat three sometimes. It's a free feel type thing. Great song!

It's has been killing me trying to rap my brain around how to play this song and you just simplified it for me. Thanks for taking the time to do show us how to play the song. Now my sis and I can really jam out to this song. Can't wait for the album to drop. see you on the road.
Just wanted to say that you guys deserve all of the success and EVEN MORE!!!
Best thing to happen to country music in a LONG TIME! Can't get enough!
