In today’s video I’ll show you how I paint a WILD SEASCAPE in watercolor.
Painting water, waves and abstract shapes can be a big challenge, but also quite the opportunity to master a multitude of skills: abstraction, avoiding patterns, painting loosely, expressing depth and volume, negative painting and much more!
I hope you find this process enjoyable and educational 😊🙏🏼
I also hope to have another go at this one in the future, and perhaps aim for a higher level of accuracy.

Liron taught me to paint, i started practicing with him in sept 2019 and now i have paintings everywhere, if you want to learn to paint or draw, here is the place to start! i recommend his lessons. no timewasting rubbish just helpful and inspiring tips to challenge and encourage you to become a much much better artist. thanks Liron!
Totally agree, he is excellent and generous! Some you have to join their Patreon group to get the ref photo left on!
That self criticism is extremely sympathetic • absolutely love the outcome
Thank you so much Rene 😊🙏🏼
Beautiful! I love your videos. Because of them I am becoming a better artist. Thank you!
Looks so beautiful!!!
Think it came out great for a small painting you did very well.👍👍👍👍
Hi Liron. Learned a lot from this instructional video, as I usually do from your classes. I certainly love your style!
Great painting Liron. Seascapes are a particular favourite of mine.
I love this!! Beautiful painting
Thanks, Liron. The result looks wonderfully watery. Can't wait to try it.
Love it!
Thank you Liron for this excellent demonstration , you explain everything so clearly and the end picture is beautiful . I am going to try this one
You've become my favorite watercolor artist because you talk about the way you feel during the process.
I am very impatient and I know how it affects my watercolors, knowing that you also struggle with the process and that you also have artistic regrets makes me way more motivated.
Your painting is amazing!
Please, keep on helping us by being human like you are!
Beautiful comment!
Loved this video! I'm am going to try the reference pic you provided👩🏼🎨
I really enjoyed this tutorial, I love that you get to the point and don’t add unnecessary chit chat like others do ! I’ve learned so much from you ...thank you
Loved it
Liked this a lot!
Great video as always! I enjoy your conversational tone and clear explanation of what you are doing and your thoughts.
Thank you Tammy 😊🙏🏼
Been following you from long time and I see the way you art style has grown. Enjoyed it thoroughly
Thank you so much 😊🙏🏼
I really liked the tones on this piece. As I watched you paint I could focus on the amount of paint, your strokes to control the brush. Yes I enjoyed this video.
Thank you Alicia! 😊🙏🏼 Trying to show as much of the process as I can (:
Thank you so much for this. You always explain everything and this is why I prefer your channel. Is it possible for you to do a waves painting of the beach? You can't see the beach here. Waves breaking on the beach look kind of different and I'm having so much trouble figuring them out. Other youtubers don't really explain the process so i was wondering if you could do one and explain the process as you always do. Again, thank you so much for all that you do
Thanks sir sharing knowledge
This was great to see- you doing a natural seascape! Great loose approach. I love doing seascapes and landscapes so it was fun. You called it complex. Yes it is in a way but for me there's nothing g as complex as urban landscapes. I really like the result Liron. You're too modest. Btw, Imloved the gouache squiggles added-very effective.
Looks good to me. I use masking fluid with a Frisk fineliner bottle. Saves ruining brushes, it’s blue so you can see it. It also helps me to be more expressive because I don’t have to worry about painting over white areas by mistake. It can look a bit ‘wooden’ though especially with water. You did an excellent job on this, it has a very natural fluid look.
thank you for such a detailed guide + including time stamps! it's a huge help. seascapes are my favourite to look at, but i can never quite get them right myself. your video will definitely help me paint them better!
Thank you so much 😊🙏🏼 They can be very challenging in their simplicity! (: Looking forward to hearing how it goes
@@LironYan haha thank you for the encouragement! i did try it - and ended up liking the outcome! ♡
Thank you!
Lovely
Thank you 😊🙏🏼
Great tutorial
😊🙏🏼
Ace!
Very nice! I like when you mix colors on the paper directly. 🙃
Thank you 😁 I love doing that!
I have really enjoyed observing your approach to doing this piece. Clouds and water are the most challenging for me and you have helped me think differently about painting them. I will trust the brush and the paper more. Let them do the work. And thanks for Turing me on to Sergey Temerev. Just what I needed right now. He is a master at water control.
I have just started to attempt waves. This video has given me so much positive insight. Excited to try it. I love your teaching method. Listening as you explain each and every step is so enjoyable. You give us the confidence to try new things! Thank you!👏👏
Thank you so so much Lynn 😊🙏🏼 That’s amazing to hear, and I will keep it up!!
Lynn Fetzer, I agree. Liron is a gifted artist; no question. I've sort of fallen in love with him over time because his lack of pretension, his very humanity, comes through so strongly. I'm 73. When I was young, I idealized artists for their insight and courage. As time went on, less so. These days especially Liron brings to mind my earlier ideals, even dreams, of the best that human beings can be.
Awesome sir g
Nice stay with watercolor, no acrylics
Liron, i have a challenge for you, i would like you to try oils, try or fail, i think it would be interesting to see how you get on. what do you think?
Hi Liron, I first found you when I searched for Nita Engle and found your review of her excellent book, “How to Make a Watercolor Paint Itself”. Since then I have been hooked on your videos; Master reviews as well as tutorials. Thanks so much. I tried to paint along with you on the wild seascape. Any chance you could post a link to the source photo, to make it easier to see?
Thank you so so much and welcome aboard 😊🙏🏼 Here it is - www.wetcanvas.com/reflib-archive/?photo=27745&size=big . The link can also always be found in the description of the video (:
How about some blooms in the foreground for the water?
Amazing painting Liron! Do you ever use masking fluid? I find it so much easier to preserve the white, then If I have to tint the highlight after removing the mask I can do that.
Thank you Nathan 😁 I should start using it more. Will try and find one I like (the ones I tried were so thick, and basically stuck to the brushes and were very hard to use.
@@LironYan I believe that Molotow makes a masking pen in a couple of sizes, which makes it a lot more precise. I use the W&N masking fluid and the consistency is not too thick! maybe like cream. I'm not sure how easily available they are Israel though!
P.S. My trick is to dip my brush in liquid hand soap or dish soap before dipping into the masking fluid so doesn't ruin my brushes, It really does work! Test that out, hopefully that helps!
Liron Yanconsky I found the W&N one too thick. I now use Pebeo which has a blue colour and is a much thinner consistency. I also use a pen, which is a small slim bottle with a needle like applicator which comes with a thin needle insert to prevent the small tube becoming clogged. It’s brilliant, Called FRISK masking fineliner. No need to apply with a brush, which I hate doing! Great to preserve thin lines and tiny bits of highlight. Can cover a larger area by squeezing more out if needed.
Liron, have a question. I'm beginning to understand what the initial wash means, and what's it for. My question is, sometimes the initial wash practically covers everything. At other times, only part of the painting is washed, and then left to dry before work on the rest happens. What's at play here? What would be the deciding factor to know how to proceed? Sorry, hope it's not too fiddly a question.
Hi, Liron. I am having some cervical pain when I am painting. Do you think its possible to paint watercollor with a big tilt on the table? Tks and beautifull seascape
How do you control water spray? Will not cause blooms?
Is there watercolour varnish or fixative?
Can I get the ref?
Hello, Im not sure how often Liron can go over his older vids for comments, but he nearly always puts his references in the expanded details below each video. Here it is @t Hope that helps.
