I tried lots of bells including the Rockbros electronic bell.
Around my neighborhood the paved shared trails are half full of elderly and they often would stop and turn with the siren noise instead of step to the right.

It is tricky what some people are alerted by. The sirens might affect their hearing aids 🙂

Thanks, all my bikes before today didn't come with a bell so I'd never used a cheap stock bell before today. The bell I got on my other bike uses a pull lever & as it looked similar I thought the lever was broken. It wasn't until I watched you just now that I realized it's a flick hammer. I feel silly now but at least I know how to use the bell now & I don't have to pay $ to replace the bell especially after dropping $ on a new bike.

I find a nice, "ping" or a classic, "tring" to be more polite than the sounding of a siren a me, I have a classic bell, it is a little larger but the tring sound seems to get peoples attention better, a siren or horn seems a bit rude to me- I don't like it when I am the pedestrian! For bad drivers or those with loud ear buds, a car horn on your bike is ideal, but for normal polite requests to pass, I like the classic bike bell as it has more sustain and is louder than most bells.

    • @jaselikesbikes

Hi Gamble, yes I think I agree with you. A nice classic "ping or tring" seems somehow less aggressive.

Using Crane bells. Brass dome best. I just got a painted Crane black paint with white bird $28 Amazon, but aluminun dome does not resonate or as load as brass. Acceptable though. Crane has a youtube video all their bells. Cranes are large and heavier.

Hoooaaa... I don’t understand why pedestrians and runners have headphones on. I am based in South Korea and there are a lot of pedestrians and bicycle newbies do that as well here. I don’t want to ring them with the annoying electric sound, but I must do it to avoid further trouble. I hope pedestrians let their ears open so I can ring them with the gentle brass bell or say hello and everyone's happy out there.
