Back in the day we had an old Smyth Drill kept at the back of the Barn in the dry, we only ever used it to sow Kale, a week prior to use my farther asked me to cover the spoked wheels with wet sacks, and keep them wet to tighten the wheels up, as a Boy it always fascinated me how the sowing mechanism worked and dropped the seed down the coulters.
Great video as always, thank you for posting.
Cheers!!
What a wonderful video I really enjoyed that, I take it the drill was converted in the past from horse drawn to tractor drawn the drawbar looks distinctly blacksmith made
Glad you liked it, yes I believe it was converted from horse drawn - lovely to see such an old amchine still doing what it was built for!
Nice to see a old drill working ,what are you planting ?
They were planting proper old fashioned wheat, a tall variety as was grown in the past
Thick rear tires, are those period correct option or retrofit?
Most definetly retrofitted
Is this a six cylinder Perkins engine.?
yes 6 cylinder 4.7 litre 89x127mm 1500RPM 45hp
I could be wrong but I think it might be a Perkins L4
