Yeah I didn't have much choice this time. But it worked out perfect because about the time I had to go someone moved in right next to me and that pretty much shut it down. I saw your last one I'm glad it wasn't that cold here but we got 9" of snow over a couple of days afterwards.
Nice! If you're going to keep doing outdoor work, consider selling the 450 and get an 891... Unless you need the 450 for home use. The 450 is a charming little radio. I really liked mine while I had it. Not sure if you were using an external speaker, but that's really helpful when doing parks in the air as well.
Thank you for the advise, right now the FT 450D is doing double duty in my shack and portable. I have a friend with and 891 and I would like to get one at some point but right now I'm saving up for a new shack rig. Being in a wheelchair I don't venture far from my van for portable work so the size of the 450 isn't that much of a concern and the internal tuner is a nice bonus when running my endfed. The 891 does have much better filtering and DNR than the 450 though. An external speaker is a good idea I use headphones with it sometimes but when recording I need to capture the radio's audio as well as my own and balancing the two is a real challenge. I'm learning as I go and appreciate the comments and advise.
Thank you for watching. I was running 100 watts from my FT 450D. The hamstick has done really well until my most recent activation at Battle of Carthage K-3337 it's a really challenging location and I struggled to get 16 QSOs in about 30 min. Still it got the job done it just wasn't pretty.
My 450D is doing double duty Portable and in my shack but I plan to get a new rig for my shack and make the 450D full time portable. I've started building a custom go box out of 2 ammo cans welded together so there's a lid for access on each end. I'll make a video about it when it is finished. Thanks again Wes AE0OC
Nice work! Doesn’t take long sometimes to get a park activated, but when they start pouring in it’s hard to stop! 73
