Always! I used to drive for 3-5 hours every day I could, up and down the long, last paved and empty road outside of town, smoking pot and listening to Assemblage 23 and VNV Nation albums over and over again and again. I discovered A23 and EBM as a whole on an internet radio station, “Balaam’s Miracle” in 2001 while working 3rd shift alone at a hotel with 85 rooms and maybe 1 guest most nights. I was hooked on A23, VNV, Apop instantly. Complimented my rabid fandom of early Cure, like “Seventeen Seconds”, “Faith” and “Pornography” with danceable beats. Eventually that spring I checked myself into the “hospital” for a few days and actually saw horrors inside that place that give me seizures to think about. Always know when to press “stop.”
@@railgap I'm you appreciate Covenant as well. "Northern Light" is a fantastic album among others of theirs. I even got my 64 year old dad to listen to Invisible & silent and he liked it.
It's very liberating and awesome. I've enjoyed it since I was a little kid. Plenty of great artists in this genre. I'm sure you'll find alot you enjoy.
Just received the Limited Edition...cool that Tom signs upon request. I gotta say the quality is excellent and Tom has produced an awesome sequence of songs...you really get a lot listening to them in sequence...what a ride. Brilliant work Tom.
Last mistake you ever made is one of my favorite the reason for that is because the way he captured the sentimental part of family it gets me right in the gut
100% agreed, I can see some people who aren't listening to the lyrics very closely thinking the same thing some do about LMBYA and playing it to someone they like. Awkward! I've been calling it Let Me By Your Armor 2.0... That being said it's so much creepier! Brilliant.
I haven't seen you in so long And I think that's wrong And I think that's wrong This problem needs to be addressed It's really for the best It's really for the best We'll be a family again No one to steal you from my grasp They'll bury you right next to me We'll be together at long last If I can't have you, then nobody can I hope you understand I hope you understand I have your interests in my heart Never to be apart Never to be apart We'll be a family again No one to steal you from my grasp They'll bury you right next to me We'll be together at long last The last mistake you ever made Was trusting me Was trusting me Now close your eyes, my precious child And I will set you free I will set you free We'll be a family again No one to steal you from my grasp They'll bury you right next to me We'll be together at long last
Assemblage 23 has been my most favorite music since 2002, what a voice Tom has and his songs words always have a deep meaning, not like the simple minded supper repetitive garb gard gard gard the top 40 puts out.
if i can't have you then nobody can i hope you understand (x2) i have your interests in my heart never to be apart (x2) (chorus) the last mistake you ever made was trusting me (x2) now close your eyes my precious child and i will set you free (x2) (chorus)
"Now close your eyes my precious child, and i will set you free" "We'll be together at long last" "If i can't have you, then nobody can" "We'll be a family again" The person is probably someone who has had their kid taken away by custody by the other parent and not allowed to see it at all, and now kind of have stolen it. I see nothing here pointing to that it would be to his/her wife
My very first memory of life was my estranged father coming to visit when I was perhaps 4. He was strong as an ox: Southerner, WW2 Marine, industrial construction worker (power plant smoke stacks). He was beating the sh*t out of my mom. My sister jumped on his back, pounded on him. He threw her to the floor like a dirty rag. I screamed at him to stop, “you don’t do that to my mama!” He didn’t like that at all. I disrespected him. He charged me like a bull, my brother grabbed me and we hid behind the couch. With red face and bulging eyes, he reached for my throat and tried to strangle me to death. After that I don’t remember much. Of that visit. I’ve had Fibromyalgia and PTSD since then. I’m 42. He’s dead. Some men still terrify me. Since then on separate occasions, with no provocation, I’ve been choked near to death again by a concrete worker I almost had to stab in the throat with a screwdriver, been raped, been kidnapped (or attempted? I got away before going to the basement he told me he was taking me to). I carry a knife now. At least one. Fast, spring loaded and sharp. “What Evil lurks in the hearts of men?” I know. I’m the kindest freak you’d ever meet. I can’t let them win. But I’m not counting to 3 next time.
i haven't seen you in so long and i think that's wrong (x2) this problem needs to be addressed it's really for the best (x2) (chorus) we'll be a family again no one to steal you from my grasp they'll bury you right next to me we'll be together at long last
I am kinda torn when I am listening. I feel awful for the speaker and at first, if not listening to closely it seems like a father speaking to a family member. Some pretty dark stuff in this song. Love.it
It's actually about killing a child. It follows the same theme as "Let Me Be Your Armor"; obsessive love. In this case, it's obsessive love for a child, rather than obsessive love for a mate.
Yes, killing his/her child so that the ones who took him/her away from him/her can't take that person back. "They'll bury you right next to me, we'll be together at long last". Implying that if he/she can't have that child than he/she would rather kill the child and be buried next to it so nobody can take the child away from him/her. This is at least what i interperate from it :) Due to the "Close your eyes my precious child", and "If i can't have you, then nobody can", sounds like custody.
it isnt about a child it is about a woman. perspective is through a man who killed their previous lover , a true thing that happened and inspired this song.
Yeah Liam, Utube needs to kill this post and A23 needs to post this. The quility of the recording is BAD and TOm Shear got some other bleed through at about 1:40-1:50 mark and forward. Ruined the song for me.
VNV Nation goes hand in hand with Assemblage 23 on my play list.

@@railgap I'm you appreciate Covenant as well. "Northern Light" is a fantastic album among others of theirs. I even got my 64 year old dad to listen to Invisible & silent and he liked it.
God, this song gives me chills. It's haunting and sad and creepy and everything I love.
I just saw him live and he was amazing! and he sang this song...it was very uplifting and beautiful
I just discovered this genre of music. and I feel so free listening to it :)
how's your goth journey going?
i just adore this man...his beautiful voice..powerful lyrics and stunning voice!
what about his voice though?
The way they shift pitch when they say "again" and "me" gives me goosebumps
This song makes me physically sick and causes me to feel overcome with nightmarish horror because it sounds so sickeningly familiar. Excellent song.
Right???
It's very liberating and awesome. I've enjoyed it since I was a little kid. Plenty of great artists in this genre. I'm sure you'll find alot you enjoy.
Excelente banda

It's really for the best
We'll be a family again
No one to steal you from my grasp
They'll bury you right next to me
We'll be together at long last
If I can't have you, then nobody can
I hope you understand
I hope you understand
I have your interests in my heart
Never to be apart
Never to be apart
We'll be a family again
No one to steal you from my grasp
They'll bury you right next to me
We'll be together at long last
The last mistake you ever made
Was trusting me
Was trusting me
Now close your eyes, my precious child
And I will set you free
I will set you free
We'll be a family again
No one to steal you from my grasp
They'll bury you right next to me
We'll be together at long last

YES
Thanks. Really nice.
What an excellent song
This may be one of the darkest songs Tom has ever written, from a guy who specializes in singing about darkness.
This song never ceases to curdle my blood.
Great music Tom, I will be buying your CD
Assemblage 23 has been my most favorite music since 2002, what a voice Tom has and his songs words always have a deep meaning, not like the simple minded supper repetitive garb gard gard gard the top 40 puts out.
This song touches me deeply!
It sounds a bit more pop than previous album. A great album (not my fave but, my favorite song of the year did come from this album. thanx Tom.
Man...now I really can't wait for the pre-order...each track seems stronger than the last. Great work Tom.
if i can't have you then nobody can

"Now close your eyes my precious child, and i will set you free"
"We'll be together at long last"
"If i can't have you, then nobody can"
"We'll be a family again"

tom is a musical n lyrical genius

Am I the only one who thinks this song shares thematic similarity with Let Me Be Your Armor?
i haven't seen you in so long

(chorus) we'll be a family again

This sounds like the music I dance to at Numbers!
Well A23 did make an appearance there a few weeks ago.
Numbers the club in Huston TX?
The line "We'll be a family again" is what really makes this disturbing.
can anyone else hear the brief moment where the music seems to 'jump' or 'jolt'?
oh yes, he sang this at the concert yesterday :)
and "You're All I Need" by Motley Crue : )
same accords, yes.
Feel, my lovelies. FEEL.
I love this song..please somebody share the lyrics :)
what about the other part?
I thought exactly the same. A troubled disturbing relationship in both songs.
thank you!!! I couldn't figure it out with listening, i'm mexican so my english y pretty bad :/
It makes me think of my son.
At least these should be the lyrics, I just listened to the song and wrote them down, so please let me know if I'm wrong!
I hope u understand
..Are you -absolutely- sure you meant to post that on a song about a man killing his wife?
I am kinda torn when I am listening. I feel awful for the speaker and at first, if not listening to closely it seems like a father speaking to a family member. Some pretty dark stuff in this song. Love.it
Sorry couldn't get them all in one comment, didn't have enough characters. =/
It's actually about killing a child. It follows the same theme as "Let Me Be Your Armor"; obsessive love. In this case, it's obsessive love for a child, rather than obsessive love for a mate.
he said its based on a true thing that happened where a guy killed his former spouse. in oregon or something.
i was right all along! wow
great lyrical talent
Yes, killing his/her child so that the ones who took him/her away from him/her can't take that person back.
"They'll bury you right next to me, we'll be together at long last".

I wish emotional and spiritual violence on he or she who thumbs-downed this track!
Because that's exactly what Tom Sheer stands for.
LOL...u so cray...
DasCryborg Yes. Because I meant that literally. Grow a sense of humor.
This is yummy.
Tumbleweed Folf Yummy? Lol, how?
Tumbleweed Folf very yummy
