    Great review. I've been wanting to check out the UV1's and this helped immensely. Great natural eq with no muffling, nice sustain and a little boomy. They seem really well suited for jazz but can take heavier punishment.

    Still kills me to this day that this channel never took off. Great info and production quality

    im just recently aware of eames they make great sounding drums very tone oriented, seems like a great company! I'd say they're definitely above par tonally.

      @TheDrumShed  7 лет назад +1

      True! They work great both live and in the studio, and have a huge tuning range which really helps when switching between various playing situations.

    John agree....I've been using these UV1's on 2 different kits, including 2 snare drums. Working like a charm. Love em. I stop using wire brushes years ago and have been using Vater plastic brushes in two different sizes. I find the plastic to help keep the heads cleaner than using the wire type, with no sacrifice in sound quality compared to wire. Too other drummers reading review, trust me I'm a 2nd generation working drummer 60 plus years old and you will not be disappointed with UV1's, try them. Keep swinging and all good things.

    Thanks for the review. I was wondering about these Evans.

    I recently purchased a set of these. I found they aren't nearly as resonant as other single ply coated heads. They sound more dampened to my ears. Closer to a 2 ply. I also found they aren't as sensitive to lighter playing as say a Remo ambassador.

  • @larrytate1657
    @larrytate1657 7 лет назад +1

    The attack and tone seems a little darker and more attack over normal G1s. I'm gonna have to try them out next head change. I've been a Remo guy for a while but I'm always open to trying a new idea.

    10mm? Sounds like the old ST heads they used to make (but still make for 14") years ago. I loved them heads and was gutted they discontinued, so I think I'll give these a go.

      Its a 22 K Con Lite over hammered. Really cool cymbal, super thin so better for quieter situations but one of my favorites!

    Thx for high quality demo! Would say that they would last as long as fyberskin heads? I've to admit i love clean looking heads on my drums! I was wondering if those could make me reconsider coated head.

    • @TheDrumShed
      @TheDrumShed  7 лет назад +1

      I actually think they will hold up longer than a Fyberskin. When I use to play fyberskins I had a little bit of a problem the the top layer delaminating. These seem to hold up better than any other head I've had a chance to try. Thanks for watching!

    I think 10 mil is 10 thousands of an inch, not 10 millimeter

    • @figwasp6101
      @figwasp6101 6 лет назад +3

      alan williams, yes. That's correct. 10mm is a similar thickness to early tank Armour.

      Yes. 10 mil is 0.010", 10mm is 0.349". Big difference.

      Lol. Thank you. 10 millimeters is one centimeter. That would be about cardboard. You right.

    Love the tone in all three tuning range.
    Can you please let us know what resonant heads are you using with UV1 in this video. G1 clear or coated, g12 clear or coated or UV1 for resonant side too?
    Thanks much.

    • @TheDrumShed
      @TheDrumShed  7 лет назад

      In the video I am using Reso 7s on the bottom of the toms and a hazy 300 on the bottom of the snare. They take a little of the ring out of the drum compared to clear G1’s.

  • @glenwolfe8437
    @glenwolfe8437 6 лет назад

    These heads sound awesome to me on toms. I'll stick to the heavy weight for snare. A UV heavyweight would be awesome! Not sure there would be a point to a UV2 (someone mentioned this) seeing that the UV1s have great attack/durability/and kind of a quick sustain.

  • @haydenschroeder4703

    Will they make uv2?

    • @TheDrumShed
      @TheDrumShed  7 лет назад

      I've heard some rumblings about them expanding the UV line but nothing definite yet to my knowledge.

    • @ToomanyFrancis
      @ToomanyFrancis 6 лет назад +1

      I don't see why not. Evans loves to provide multiple choices of the same line to give the largest variety of sounds possible.

    • @JazzyJonas
      @JazzyJonas 6 лет назад

      I hope so. I would use both depending on the music. And, like John said, a reverse power center UV1 would probably be perfect on any snare for me.

    • @TheDrumShed
      @TheDrumShed  6 лет назад

      Hi Joseph, thanks for checking the video out. The ride I’m using in this one is a 22" Zildjian k Constantinople overhammered light ride. I haven’t been using the uv1s as much recently just due to really liking the sounds I’m getting with the calftones. I haven’t ordered a Emad uv1 but iam going to check one out soon!

      I love the EC2 ive been wanting to try the UV1 and all the research ive been doing on these heads leades me to believe the UV1 will stand up like my all time favorite EC2 does..I will be checking them out for sure.. I have a pearl masters 100% Birch shell so I think these would really sound great on them.

    So I'm guessing these are really G1's with better coating? They sound very similar.

    • @TheDrumShed
      @TheDrumShed  4 года назад +2

      They are using a different coating but also a different film. It is a noticeable difference when you are playing them. To me the UV1's seem like a slightly heavier weight than a standard G1 coated.

    • @TheDrumShed
      @TheDrumShed  6 лет назад +1

      Yes! I have been using the calftone Emad on the batter and the calftone eq4 on the front since they were released and I love em.

    • @johnwallace6497
      @johnwallace6497 6 лет назад

      ha,ha I have the exact same on a 24" kick. I also put calftones on the rest of the shells too for a new album recording and got the nicest tone I think I ever got. Thanksfully I'm not to hard a hitter so they stood up well for the whole session and onwards.

  • @larrytate1657
    @larrytate1657 7 лет назад +2

    I think they're a little thicker than a G1 I heard, no? Like 2 mils thicker.

    • @TheDrumShed
      @TheDrumShed  7 лет назад +1

      It is still a 10 mil film like the G1's but they say it is a "unique film" so I think there was a change to the formula they used on these heads because I agree with your other comment that they sound a bit darker than a standard G1. G1's have always sounded a bit to bright for my taste and I have preferred g12 or g14's in the past and would say that these lean a little more toward the g12 tone wise while still being a bit more open due to the 10 mil film.

    • @TheDrumShed

      The drums in the video are made by Eames drum shells in Sagus Massachusetts. Real small maker but they do amazing work. This kit is a 9 ply birch kit.

    2:39 Ten mil is not ten millimetres, it is ten thousandths of an inch. A ten millimetre head would be unplayable. Mil is Latin for 1000, and it's often used in engineering to measure very small thicknesses, usually of film.

    • @panurge987

      A micron is a one millionth of a meter. There are 25.4 microns in one mil. Microns are part of the metric system, and mils are part the Imperial system.
