Seats out, bucket of water & OMO all over seats and carpets, rinced off the seats in the garden with a hose, the carpets less water and towel dry, seats left out in sun. Decoke and cambelt, all back together and was great for the years I owned it until a company car parted our ways. There is something quite satisfying bringing a car back from a minging death. Geoff the Volvo Whisperer will soon have this old girl looking her best again. Can't wait to see the transformation. He's like the Blue Cross for neglected Volvo 850s.
Geoff, how about a challenge converting the 850 wagon into a makeshift camper? Hubnut tried and failed with the Berlingo, and it looks like he's off to the tip. 😂
My local garage has a ratty old Skoda Fabia in similar condition. +200k miles, every panel is dented & scratched, and it's filthy dirty both inside and out. Thing is, it drives brilliantly, and I always enjoy my time with it. I much prefer it to the brand new Nissan Juke Hybrid I had for a day. Needs a LOT of love to get this one in proper condition. And when you start probably double the parts you expected to be needed. Such a shame people totally neglect maintenance and small repairs on a car.

@@crazyforcars I only bought this because I love them and want to try them all… and I needed to go to london so it made for a fun day out. I wasn’t sure what I’d end up doing it when I made the video, as I own two other 850 diesels. Thursday night someone got in touch wanting to buy a Volvo for their mum, it wasn’t actually for sale. I made a little pocket money, got a video outta it and had a day out. Makes it worthwhile to me!
I think this is the one I spotted on FB marketplace recently, was fairly local to me. I did instantly think I wonder if Geoff will go for this one? Guess I was right
Looks as if it will clean up well and as you say minor bits here and there; scratches, dents etc but apart from needing a good valet is a sound buy. Perhaps the danger of the bonnet flying up is a risky one lol. Great and love that old building (cylinders/old tech type towers) in background. Thanks Geoff!
I bought a XC70 off ebay for 1K 7 years ago, the pics made it look great. It wasn't, it did have 12 months MOT and 4 new tyres. He smoked and had a german shepherd.....it took me forever to get rid of the hair and I still find some today(it's had multiple very very deep cleans). The smell has gone but for 6 months I thought the car was developing into the "little tree" scent forest in an attempt to overpower the cigarette stench. I love the car and it has taken our family all over the country on holiday with minimum fuss. I'm now on 226K miles having bought it at 171K. If it dies I'll buy another, I'd love a LPT 940 but the Mpg would make me cry.
Geoff, the front bumper ding may come out with a hot air gun. I used the technique on several cars and they came out perfect. Just don't rush it and let it get soft. Cheers.

The only real damage is to the drivers seat back where the 8 previous owners have bundled themselves in and out, if they were all the size of the seller, even so in 200K that is not bad! The body is straight and hole-less, MOT with high 40's fuel economy, has to be as green as half an EV, at a tenth of the price!
