    Teams will also note he is a seasoned professional athlete, already used to the pressure of playing in front of a big crowd , as well as the performance pressure of international rugby. As a pro he will already know the importance of looking after himself, and behaving professionally on and off the field. Good luck to him .

      To be fair mate all those college players are used to playing in front of big crowds, probably bigger crowds than what most of LRZ rugby games get.
      They’re pretty much professionals too, maybe not “officially”.
      I imagine LRZ has a better professional mindset and experience tho of course.

      @@user-em1ig7xo9d LRZ played 32 times for Wales to crowds of at least 80,000, played in 5 world cup games over 80,000 attendance, played in 2 Lions test matches with 70,000 seats and played 38 times for Gloucester and scored 38 times in those games. He has the experience and the attitude, in fact, he could bring a a lot to an NFL team, not just in media attention. Another great thing about him, unlike some Rugby players, he is a well mannered and respectful player, he also wont cause trouble! I really hope to see him at The Buccaneers!

      @@dylanllewellyn6792 I'm Welsh however I did my degree at LSU.. these guys are used to much bigger stadiums, Brian Thomas, Malik Nabers and Jayden Daniels, LSU's QB and most recent Heisman Trophy winner regularly played in front of crowds of over 100,000 (yes college football there really is that big). I for one hope LRZ makes it in the NFL but this years WR combine are a different breed. He will get into a team no problem, as every NFL has an IPP slot, it all depends on how motivated he is effectively behind closed doors for a year and his improvement during it

    As an athlete he has been trained in being able to operate as a winger (rugby’s closest equivalent to wide receiver) for 80 plus minutes (albeit actual playing time is nearer 30 mins) having skills in both attacking and defending. So it’s a combo of speed, power and endurance that is his built in norm. I won’t for one minute suggest he could be the top wide receiver with training but lets say in a years time having trained with a pro NFL team how much improvement could he make after losing some of the endurance characteristics and enhancing speed and power. This has to be the question the NFL teams looking at that options will be trying to calculate. The other aspects as people have said around professionalism and playing under the most intense pressure he has proven. As a welsh rugby fan I hope he does brilliantly for 3 or 4 years and the comes back to the best game in the world!!!

    • @QSNgg
      @QSNgg  Месяц назад +3

      You said it perfectly Jon! It's undeniable that LRZ is amazing fast and talented. These tests are not the end all be all. He'll definitely get a look and get picked up I feel
      His top speed is exceptional. Now he just needs reps against other football athletes in a system. 10 weeks of training is not enough to outperform athletes who do this their entire life
      They need some measurable on the board to access a player and will now bring him to their facilities to do 1on1 evals to see how he fits in their scheme
      What's nice is that the NFL has a rule that every year each team (32 total) gets 1 international roster spot. So I feel he'll get picked up and get experience on the practice team, then move through the ranks from there
      I hope he does well! I'm pulling for him 🙌🏽

    He's a huge loss to us (Wales) as our biggest star. He's a proven athlete, with huge transferrable skills. He's used to playing rugby for 80 minutes, in attack and defence, so more endurance based, he now has to change to be more explosive in short bursts. He has great hand eye coordination, what we call 'heads up' instincts to spot gaps, the ability to side step, swerve to lose a defender and of course pace. Good luck with the Chiefs LRZ !

    Great summary of LRZ, but I'm not sure people fully realise what an athletic freak the guy is. He's been clocked running 100m in 10.4 seconds, and that's from a standing start - not using starting blocks...
    He combines that raw speed and agility with real power. He's more than big enough at just over 6' 3" tall and weighed 194 lb in rugby, so he might have bulked up slightly already in the US for the NFL if he's now at 209 lb.
    In rugby, he's also used to being tackled multiple times in a match by players up to about 6' 7" and 300+ lb - and that's without all the padding and helmets that the pampered and protected NFL players wear.
    More than that, it's his game intelligence and anticipation that marks him out in rugby. Also, unlike other rugby players that have made the switch to NFL, Rees-Zammit has been obsessed with NFL since early childhood and has a huge knowledge and understanding of the game.
    It might take him a year to get used to memorising so many plays and understand the game even better, but you're right to highlight his potential. People on your side of the pond should underestimate this kid at their peril. He could turn out to be a superstar...

    My question is this: how do these combine numbers equate to talent on the actual field of play? That is to say, so many times college players put up these incredible numbers and then are an absolute flop on the field. Does LRZ stand a chance? Thank you in advance.

    • @QSNgg
      @QSNgg  Месяц назад +1

      Hey Prog thank so much for checking out my video I appreciate you!
      To answer your question, I feel that the numbers don't necessarily equate to how talented an athlete will be on the field.
      They're definitely great markers and highly influence how much an athlete will get paid, but not the full picture of an athlete from what I've seen in my football lifetime.
      I feel that LRZ definitely does stand a chance especially with a long enough timeline and exposure in the right system which KC can provide
      He's already played at the highest level of competition and now just need to learn the explosive short-burst nature of football compared to how rugby is played
      I see he's listed as a Running Back as well which is great for him. He will have to worry less about all the traits it takes to be a WR and focus on running and shorter routes out of the backfield
      I would love to see him succeed and do well. We'll know more in July and August timeframe so I'll stay updated on him for sure

    Interesting solution to quantify an athletes abilities, I knew nothing about this prior to watching your video, so thanks for the break down. Just a thought, do they not have anything to show for how hard it is to tackle a player? I'd thought that would be an important factor for an attacker. There was a player called Mike Brown who played for Harlequins and England at fullback, wasn't the fastest, silkiest or strongest player but had this skill of brushing off tackles.

      The best measure we have is only in real time action to see how well they perform in evading a tackler.
      It's one of those traits like you mentioned with Mike Brown that is really innate to that players ability in a given circumstance.

    Louis is a wonderful athlete. Will be a challenge competing against guys who have been playing WR since they were kids. Muscle memory, game reading etc all take years. Rooting for him to do well. Cross pollination from rugby to NFL and vice versa is goosbto see. NFL coaches would do well to study how top level rugby players tackle their opponents to take them down, without injury.

    These new drafts have trained their whole life for these particular physical tests. LRZ has spent only several weeks, after fully training his body for playing 80 minutes of international rugby every game. Plus the ability to play in several areas of the game at international level when required, like Number 12 & 13 full throttle hits by 3 players at once!
    He’s proven himself at the highest levels of international sport against the best in the world!
    Part of the LRZ’s game is handling catches and running with defenders in-front, to the side and behind him. He’s trained endlessly to drive through those players to score! His father was a college player too, so he’s been brought up watching and talking about the game.

It will bring a lot of eyes to the nfl from the U.K. combine numbers are great but not the best all end all. Brock leaner apparently broke a lot of combine records but didn’t amount to anything. Louis with his experience of playing in front of big crowds and ball handling skills is what will set him apart. He’s gotta be confident to making the league for him to give up a promising rugby career. I hope he makes it great video. I think he will be a good running back due to his rugby experience of direct running and breaking tackles. The guys with high verticals probably played basketball too. It’s not uncommon in America for athletes to play both basketball and football. A high vert matters in nfl but not the be all end all. Good hands high I.q will get you a lot further. With that saying Louis ain’t played a game of American football from what we know so his I.q won’t be there compared to the seasoned players looking to get drafted

    Football is an explosive sport, whereas rugby is a contact sport. Completely different. The average football play is maybe 5 seconds, then you get a full 40 seconds to recover and go again. So the question is how explosive can you be from here to there in 5 seconds? There are quite a few athletes in rugby that would get lit up playing football, and conversely American football players would be nothing after just a few minutes of rugby because they'd be so tired.

      You said it perfectly Charlie! I 100% agree with you on the differences between football and rugby athletes. There are definitely a lot of crossover skillsets, but the energy systems used in each sport is entirely different.
      Like you said football is mostly short bursts and explosive actions where as rugby is a game of attrition and energy management.

    I'm not deep into NFL these days like I used to be so not sure about various styles of RB that you might get these days from years gone by, but I'm surprised that he has gone for WR rather than RB given the skills he already has speed and agility to sidestep etc. Just seems adding the WR requirements would give less opportunity. Could he not try for both RB and WR?

    • @QSNgg
      @QSNgg  Месяц назад

      Now a days in the NFL it's really difficult to find a hybrid RB/WR like we had back in the past. Now you see RBs are usually shorter 5'6" - 6'0" and WRs are 5'10" - 6'5" on average I'd say
      With his height and higher running style his knees will get targeted heavily by defenders as a RB and cause a lot of damage/injury to his body.
      He has more of the ability to be out on the edge as a WR in space rather than taking a handoff from the QB. I think WR will give him more ability similar to how he played Wing in rugby.
      It will allow him to be more creative and free where I think he'll excel with his talents. Also adding him to kick return too

      @@QSNgg thanks. It’s sort of what I meant in the types of RB that are around these days and how they are used. I get the shorter guys are going to be the ones who will blast thru the middle, but equally there were always those who can cut through the openings, so not forgetting that he also plays full-back which is an equally tough gig where you need to be able to cut through the field on a return (eg punt/kick return) with no support initially which can be v similar to going through line of scrimmage. Plus he could then bring receiving into it too alongside playing with a RB mate to play the alternate, blocker or decoy. Just saying he will have had that experience already so it’s an addition to his skill set that not all WR would have in their locker, would seem a waste not to try it too?

    What do the scouts look at as important factors for the Defensive Lineman? Is it the 40yard or the others?

    • @QSNgg
      @QSNgg  Месяц назад +1

      D-Line need to hava a very good bench press, 3-cone drill, 40yd time, and skill position assessment.
      So they look at footwork, strength for inside D-line
      They look at footwork, strength, speed for outside D-line.
      Here are some measurables scouts look for on D-line (inside lineman and outside lineman)
      Interior defensive linemen: The average height and weight for defensive tackles entering the league is 6-foot-3, 306 pounds. Weighing in below 300 pounds makes it more likely that a prospect will be projected as a three-technique in the NFL (think Aaron Donald); weighing more than 320 pounds would point toward a future as a nose tackle
      Edge defenders: The average pass rusher steps on the scales in Indianapolis at 265 pounds and stands 6-3. Teams consider wingspan and arm length with every defensive position, but it draws more attention at edge. The average wingspan there is about 80 inches (6-foot-8), which is vital because edge rushers have to use that length to keep tackles at bay and create necessary angles to turn corners and win the edge.
      Edge rushers with shorter arms, or that weigh closer to the 240-pound range, have to show high-level athletic traits elsewhere.
