Steve cant use the crafting table unless he's on a platform or hard ground, so the planking is for gold & diamond at the cost of extra resources & the possible pickaxe/shovel they currently have.
it will never stop being wild to me that it's the steve players that have to find and share the counterplay to their own character, but still this is a great video
