I've had this book since I was a weld inspector in the petrochem industry 25 years ago.
Great choice. Especially when explaining the grain types and hardening attributes.
Keep up the great work on the videos.

Love your tip about striking a corner of cast iron. One of the big problems in industry is finding out whether a part is cast iron or cast steel. This trick would help sometimes. The other thing we always did it to take a small sharp chisel and see if we could pull up a sliver or burr. If you can pull up a "shaving", it is cast steel. If you can't because the "shaving" keeps breaking, it is cast iron.

Great video, I'm a welding student, I learn tons from your videos and your the only one I trust to get true info from, one day I hope to have watched all your videos and have as much knowledge as you do and I really liked the outtake :-)

I came here after signing up for your metallurgy course. Finally found somebody to explain the rationale for some of the numbers, thanks. I sent away and received the book -- Lincoln Foundation had a special deal for some of their other books as well, though they are quite dated. This vid is a great intro.

You are the smartest person i have evr seen in a video about welding. I have watched just about all of you videos even though some of them do not pertain to the work that i am currently involved with i may come acrossed it some day. If at all possible could you make some videos about welding out of position with gas shielded fcaw i got certified in the 3g positiin when i was in school but i like to see others techniches and try to intigrate them into my own to make myself more proficient.

The statement at the end about how welding is like heat treating is enlightening as to why grinding welds are such a pain.

Doing alot of 4140 in my job there is a big learning curve for a guy that has done low carbon and AR plate for 20+ yrs. Proper preheat and post weld cooling is a large part of my job success. Proper alloy filler metal research for the application to s a must.

My welding instructor never wore a badass leather flight jacket, which probably explains why I've been welding almost 10 years and still don't know what I'm doing🤣

I'm looking into buying a TIG welder. Thinking either miller 180 tig or an Eastwood. There is a big difference in coast. What would be the best for my money. I don't know much about Eastwood

    UK, 0$ shipping.

Its a funny deal. Our government and other UN members help disadvantage countries and give them low postage rates (we can get parts from china for like $2, basically honoring their rate), but if we ship something its full price. So I guess I'm saying to order the book from china.
