I noticed that too. I very much doubt everyone doing it is doing it completely independent of the societal pressure for black/curly hair women to straighten our hair. Besides, that it's literally just not healthy and potentially cancer causing. Overall I wish women would consider their health over beauty but it's a much more complex issue.

I used to get relaxers as a kid. My mom did too. Basically, however she wore her hair, I did too. Eventually, (in early 2000’s) my mom stopped with the relaxers and went natural so I did as well. She didn’t allow it anymore. I remember being so mad at her because relaxed hair was all I knew and I thought my natural hair was “unmanageable”.

I’m bi racial, I never learned how to take care of my hair and have gone through a journey learning how. Every time it gets long I have this urge to cut it OFFF lmao a few years ago I did a big chop. And when it started getting long again I did a semi big chop up to my ears, it was very cute though i missed how long my hair was. Lmao I’m trying to stick through this urge to cut it off again and learn how to braid my hair especially now that I’m a hijabi. I know not all hair types are the same on everyone but Please if anyone has any tips I’d appreciate it so much. 😭😭😭😭

No girl same. I never learned how to take care of my hair either, and my mom would always take me to get it straightened or relaxed so it could be more "manageable." It's not unmanageable, I just was never shown how to manage it. I'm attempting to get out of that mindset that it has to be relaxed to look pretty. It's a struggle trying to find something that works for us mixed girls, so I'm in the same boat as you tryin to find how tf my hair works 😂
