  • Toronto FC playmaker Sebastian Giovinco is among the smaller players in MLS, but his strength, quickness and sublime skills earned him the nickname "Atomic Ant" during his time with Juventus FC and Italy's national team. Teammates Jozy Altidore and Michael Bradley call him "Seba" and laud his qualities.

    i believe that the MLS is a very good league. I also believe that people judge it to be a retirement league because they see the potential in this league. I think even though that Gio is being paid that much, it helps the league to become stronger and thus attracts more talent.

    • @sebastianjedrzejewski8566

      People judge it to be a retirement league because the essential parts to many teams are over 30 whilst in Europe they are not

    • @anthonylong9067

      They call it a retirement league because a lot of the big footballing names came and played in their 30's. But the only players i know who retired in this league are di vaio and Henry.

      I've always liked him. But he didnt get much of a chance with Juventus. But he's a fast, nimble, dangerous player. I like how he links up really well with Jozy Altidore.
      Toronto has never made the playoffs. This might be their year.

    Giovinco isn't a world class player, he was just a sub at Juventus.
    But i believe MLS is getting better and better. I'm french so i'm not really familiar with the american system (with salary cap, draft, playoffs) but i appreciate following the MLS and who knows, perhaps in 30 years, it will compete Europe ?

    • @Freyyyr
      @Freyyyr 9 лет назад +5

      ClemB Also i think that MLS should follow the model of clubs like Sevilla, FC Porto. Buy and sell. Rather than recruiting some old europeans players, american club should try to sign some young players with high potential. It needs a significant investment in scouting but it could work in a long term perspective. There are plenty of hot prospects in Africa an in South America that would for sure be interested in a move to the US.

    • @holychild2581
      @holychild2581 9 лет назад

      I agree that MLS clubs should stop buying players close to retirement. But the problem is a lot of players aren't giving MLS a chance and going straight to European clubs. We're growing but we need to create a world class player like Messi so players will want to play with them and come to our league.

    • @DarkwingMcQuack

    Da tifoso juventino mi è dispiaciuto tanto che una gran parte della tifoseria fischiava Seba per ogni minimo sbaglio!
    A questo ragazzo gli dovevano dare più fiducia e noi tifosi lo dovevamo supportare sempre,come tutta la squadra!
    Purtroppo Giovinco non ha mai avuto la Chance per poter dimostrare quello che vale davvero alla Juve,prima chiuso da un brasiliano sopravalutato come Diego e poi con un Capitano che nn gli voleva fare spazio e dettava legge.
    Molti giocatori se nn gli dai fiducia si perdono,specialmente se la tifoseria lo fischia ad ogni tocco solo perché il ragazzo ingenuamente dopo un gol ha tirato fuori la linguaccia ?!
    Conte fa bene a convocare Seba x la nazionale ,peccato che proprio adesso si è infortunato ma se continua così sono sicuro che anche in nazionale farà bene !
    Per tutti quelli che dicono che gioca solo in MLS ,gli rispondo: questo già da ragazzino quando gioco contro il Chelsea fu il migliore in campo ,e gli inglesi al epoca erano davvero tosti ,poi ha vinto il premio miglior giocatore del torneo di Toulon ,era il più grande talento europeo ! Purtroppo la sua squadra del cuore non gli ha portato bene anzi,questo in una squadra che gli avrebbe dato la fiducia che meritava avrebbe fatto sfracelli !

    I'm really glad for Seba, as an Italian football lover and one of Seba's fans. His size did not affect himas some say in the comments below, but at Juventus you can definitely find a crazy competition between people capable of doing the same magic. In the Italian national team as well, since there are at least six players capable of the same free-kicks and tricks. Moreover, no offence,since we are all football lovers and passionated :-) in the video you can spot at least four goals Seba scores that he would have never scored in Europe, due to a very poor defencive skill from the opponents. They seemed afraidof staying too close to Seba and being dribbled, so they allowed an awful lot of space for him to shoot, or to change the striking foot from right to left. That would never happen against Juve, Chelsea or Real Madrid. They would have bitten his ankles off like angry pitbulls

    Well, it was natural the decision to sell him and it was wise for giovinco to get out of there.

    Giovinco is good but he's not world class. He was a bench player at Juve most of the time. Pirlo is world class, if he does end up joining NYCFC they're gonna be hard to stop - he's a real midfield maestro and better all-round player than Giovinco, but respect to both players.

    • @domenicomarzolla3045
      @domenicomarzolla3045 9 лет назад +4

      Stuffyou100 Guys, guys, may I play voice of truth here? I'm Italian and I'm a supporter of Juventus FC, so I know what we're talking about. Giovinco is merely an average player beyond "blossoming age" who plays in a low-quality league like the MLS. He did show some promise when he was in the youth circuit, but for various reasons he never achieved that potential. He had one good season while on loan (hint: good players don't get to be sent on loan) in Parma FC, persuading coach Conte to give him a try in the first team but he was quickly sidelined again after a few matches. He quit with Juventus mostly because he had slipped to fourth or fifth choice when Morata, Matri and Dybala were hired and his market value was precipitating quick. He openly said to Italian press he did it for money and for finally being protagonist somewhere, acknowledging the MLS' poor level.
      Enjoy him and I'm sure he's very happy to be there, but he's no star, and neither a great player.

    • @domenicomarzolla3045
      @domenicomarzolla3045 9 лет назад +2

      ***** Well, Milan has beaten Real Madrid this December. They're 10th in Italy and really sucky. Guess what: club friendlies tend to be, you know, friendlies. Especially if it's British teams going after new supporters in a rich and fat market like the US. You know, people don't tend to buy shirts or watch in TV a team that has crushed and humiliated theirs.
      If you want to have an actual international comparison, try the Concacaf Champions League. You'll be amazed to know that Mexican and Costa Rican teams regularly beat the shit out of MLS teams. Costa Rica and Mexico aren't exactly world superpowers.
      Unfortunately for a variety of reasons the MLS lags behind European or even South American leagues.

  • @domenicomarzolla3045
    @domenicomarzolla3045 9 лет назад +1

    North American soccer fans are so cute. They think that Giovinco is a "world star". Reality check: he's an average player who played in team far too quality-heavy for him, he was dished an ironic number 12 shirt (usually reserved for the 2nd goalkeeper) and played only when Del Piero and then Tevez needed to rest. This winter Juventus was shoveling him new guys over him (Matri, Dybala) so Seba decided to quit and spend his last professional years in some well-paid, easy league.

    • @domenicomarzolla3045
      @domenicomarzolla3045 9 лет назад

      mike lane That is very cute, I repeat, but things work out differently. Every team has some reserves which are kept mostly in case the titular player for that position is injured or needs rest. It's not that Giovinco can't play, it's just that he's really average. He'd be first squad in some middling team, but he wouldn't be paid so much.

    • @moritzpbbarvencik
      @moritzpbbarvencik 9 лет назад +2

      Domenico Marzolla Don't exagerate. Giovinco is a very talent player. He had a lot of potential, but he could never fulfil it at juventus. Partly because the defenses were to structured.

    • @JLCD905
      @JLCD905 5 лет назад

      And what does that tell you about Giovinco's style of play in Europe? You technically just said that defenses were too structured, that means the defenders are world class players. Needless to say, Giovinco never scored an international goal before and after the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup.

    Toronto Cycle
    1. Be bad
    2. Attempt to get better by throwing money at pretty well known players.
    3. Team under performs and misses the playoffs
    Repeat cycle
    Money doesn't buy a good team, it buys a recognizable team. Only time will tell if the juve reject will be what your team needs or if your just gonna end up buying more expensive players that don't gel
