Just made this tonight but put it into small foil trays to make lollypop. Did it to the crack temperature and they are perfect. The children will love them at the fireworks display Thank you
It did harden I took it to the Blyth community church to share with my friends. I left it on the table during the carol service , Richard said it tastes hard , like glass , I had some I liked it .
I lived dangerously didn't use a thermometer it's not hard after it's boiled a little does change colour thickness after it stop rising I used the old way to test it cold blow of water if it clumps into toffee stop cooking it and pour out let it set job done taste great.
I wonder if you could substitute honey for the golden syrup? Also we can't get treacle in the states, any advice about how to make molasses work for this recipe? Edit to add- I did find treacle on Amazon, however I quite like the flavor of molasses so I may just keep it at that.
Sorry for the delay in replying! I am not sure of the substitutes would work, not can always try to find out! I reckon the molasses will give it that nice rich taste! Hope your toffee making went well!
In my experience it's a matter of what temperature you heat it to. Candy goes soft/chewy at one set temperature an hard at a higher one. One way to test it is to put a drop of it into a glass of cold water. Of course if you take a slight spoonful and as it leaves the spoons it is spinning sugar webs you know it will harden to glass.
Let me know what you think of this Bonfire Toffee! Will you be making it?! 🔥🎆🍬

Followed you recipe and made two lots of treacle toffee. My mother used to make it in lancashire when i was younger. The taste is great.
Oh, I am so glad it turned out how you wanted it to! It is a unique but delicious taste, isn't it?!
Thanks for watching and commenting too 😊

Hi I made some today mine is still very sticky I put grease proof paper on that was very hard to take off . I put it in the fridge.
Oh no, did it eventually harden? It could be an imbalance of ingredients or not getting it got enough?

How long can you keep the treacle toffee for
At least a week or two in an airtight container. It will start to soften if left out. Hope that helps 😊
Is this toffee chewy or hard ?
It is a very hard toffee. Similar to a boiled sweet 😊
you don't wanna be using silicon with burning sugar lol
I didn't realise this. Why can't you use silicone moulds with hot sugar? It seemed to work fine for the bonfire toffee.
this is confusing, you just made bonfire toffee, hard and delish, treacle toffee is soft and chewy , but your title suggests both ??
Sorry for any confusion. I know the toffee as both and the same thing (hard toffee) xoxo
