Обожаю композиторов создающих симфонический произведения такие гротескныепротиворечивые музыкальные ряды ,как в шахматых головоломках

There are so many German orchestras. Do musicians make the rounds of the orchestras? I've seen the piccolo player in the Frankfurt orchestra. It would make sense.

Hey Dennis - thanks for the interesting question! Actually, most of the players you see here (or with our colleagues of the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra) will have a fixed, tenured contract with our orchestra. But of course, when a musician falls ill or has to miss a production for other reasons, a replacement is needed. Since those orchestras operate on such a high artistic level, a high-quality substitute player is needed. So yes, with our radio orchestra (as well as with almost any of the other so-called "A Orchestras", Germany's biggest professional orchestras), most of the substitute players for the week, especially in first or second chairs, will have a tenured position in another orchestra. They usually have the week off in their "own" orchestra so they can jump in. For example, when a principal cello falls ill, you first check whether the alternating principal cello is available. When this seat isn't occupied or when the alternate isn't available (for which there can be many reasons), a substitute is searched - often by the musicians themselves, sometimes by the orchestra management. There is usually a very short list of people you can call for such demanding positions, and it's helpful when the substitute has played with your orchestra before and knows its style. So this is why you will see familiar faces from other orchestras every now and again - but we're very proud of our excellent German radio orchestras and always happy to help each other out when substitute players are needed!
