- For this “Friday Free For All”, Ted reflects back on the time he spent with Jeff Beck and breaks down some of Beck’s most famous guitar magic and reveals a couple of their common passions outside of the music world. Tune in and be surprised!
I don’t play the guitar, I play with the guitar. Talent like Jeff Beck and Ted Nugent leaves me in awe. God bless Beck and Uncle Ted.
Same here.
Uncle Ted, be inductrd into RRHF
Ted is no where near Jeff Beck sir!
@@toddtuck548 He never said he was. He said he was in awe of them.
Ted has a style that is very different than Jeff Beck. Look at the guitars to begin with. 70s Ted Nugent was as brilliant as any British guitarist. On top of the talent was the entertainer. Someone convinced him to go cartoon like after Derek and Rob left him. By the 80s Van Halen took over.
Any artist who writes songs like 'My Love Is Like a Tire Iron' deserves the ultimate respect.
That song is a repetitive piece of crap.
Terminus Eldorado
Hehehehe
I have not heard anything negative about Jeff Beck. My impression is that all he wanted to do was play guitar and have a peaceful life. RIP Mr. Beck.
Yep
Blow by Blow was a masterpiece.
Love Highway Song. Something about that track just gets me. Especially the live with Jan Hammer group version. But yes Blow by Blow is a must listen.
The first time I saw Jeff Beck was in 1983 at Cow Palace in San Francisco sharing the stage with Page and Clapton. Amazing show. RIP Jeff.
Keep on rockin Uncle Ted 🇺🇸
Truth, Logic and Common Sense
Yes, The ARMS concert. A lot of great musicians were there. Joe Cocker, Bill Wyman, Charlie Watts, Kenny Jones, Ray Cooper
I was at that show too. I had just moved to the Bay area from Atl. In 1999, I listened to him at the Puyallup fair in WA to a nearly empty outdoor section. Up close and personal. The livestock have never forgotten.
Went to the A.R.M.S concert at Madison Square Garden and me and my buddy, like always when we were younger worked are way up to front row dead center about a quarter into the show and it was amazing. When Jimmy walked out with the double neck the place went crazy. Jimmy was looking a little thin and played his Telecaster most of the show. In those days even in the Garden there was no separation between stage and front row. Me and my buddy watched Jeff, Eric and Jimmy with our arms on the stage watching all three members of the Yardbirds playing 10-15 feet in front of us. Plus all the other acts that were there. The only show that matched that one was the Atlantic Records 40th anniversary show at the Garden in 88, only got to about the 8th row at that show. Also the Bob Dylan 30th anniversary show at the Garden with George Harrison, Neil Young. Ron Wood and Kieth Richards playing just Acoustic guitars. Many other performed. If ever have a chance look on Internet for those to shows. Between those three shows I would bet a third of the people are not alive anymore, will never see shows like that anymore.
Me too, ARMS at MSG, I will never forget that night. All night the security guard kept warning me to stay in my seat, or he'd throw me out...once the encore hit with Page, Clapton and Jeff Beck, I made a mad dash to the front row ,...two people ahead of me in the aisle...this was when Page could still be a gunslinger, he could still rip. But Jeff was incredible...I saw him many times...sad thing....that shot destroyed his immunity system., he should still be with us today.
@@hardrockindaddy I'm 58 and pretty soon there be know one left. Used to go to a lot of shows, living on Long Island you just jumped on the train and you would be at Penn Station in 30-40 minutes. Don't go to many shows anymore, have seen everyone I have wanted to see many times. Last show was the Stones at Met Stadium in Jersey, August 2019 before the pandemic. I figured it out I saw the Stones 15 times. Crosby just dying, Charlie Watts last summer. Last time I saw Jeff was at Jones Beach with Johnny Lang opening for him, touring with Jeff after Johnny came out with 1st Album. Rock on.
No one can sound like Jeff Beck, as clearly demonstrated!
He did nail the over under sideways down sound and with a byrdland 😳😳
I don't think that was his intention. Nugent is his own person
@steve c, he was close, but to be fair, even Page couldn’t perfectly nail that riff after Beck left the Yardbirds.
@@daviddonnell2153 Even if he did make an effort to sound like Jeff Beck, he wouldn’t be able to pull it off. The difference in talent and control is vast. Nugent wrote a few decent licks but that’s where it ended in my opinion !
@@Paine-yr9wd and Beck wrote not many good lyrics.
We love when you go back to the beginning of the history of rock & roll. Jeff Beck was 1 of the greats.
1 of 1
Awesome respect for the gifted Jeff Beck from Uncle Ted. Great guitar players who had so much in common. The love of guitar music, the origins and the ability to leave us with iconic music. It will remain forever! Nice tribute Uncle Ted!
I've been on a three day Beck Binge, he was so much more than a guitarist. Thx for taking the time to remember him Ted.
a wonderful tribute to Jeff Beck..the tones were heavenly
Jeff beck was an awesome player, and we just heard from one of the greatest also on the nightly nuge. Ted can play with anyone. He is amazing.
There’s a lot genius guitarists out there and then there’s Jeff Beck .
Page said something similar to that.
Bingo
Page said that.
wonderful tribute to Jeff. Did not know he was an archer. That tone you did to Over Under Sideways Down was spot on. I was 16 when that came out, and I think the solo on yourJourney to the Center has a little Beckism in it. Thanks TED
We lost our of the greatest ! Jeff Beck will be forever in our memories. RIP Sir!
Thank you! I didn't know Jeff Beck was an archer and bowyer. I've been making wood longbows for about 30 years, over 60 from Osage .
Jeff Beck was never boring.🧡
There have been guitarists that have come close to Eddie, with all due respect.
But nobody will ever come within a hundred yards of Jeff Beck.
Nobody will ever copy his phrasing..
Jeff was in his own league that he created.
RIP, Jeff
@@Mark-qr2up
Yep, yep and yep..
Truth.
Ted has always had a way with words. Beautiful tribute!
I still put on his Blow by Blow album now and then. Great stuff.
I love the faces Ted makes while playing , it is iconic!! 😁 It's as if it completely connects to the guitar riffs he's playing!! Ted thanks for being the Motor City Madman!! I'm 56 now but I still have to listen to Free for All and Hey baby and all those wonderful love songs!! 🤣🤣😁✌️👍
Yea , Jeff put an arrow he made on the front of a badass 12" album cover with funky riff that are untouchable . Thanks Ted and Keith ...Rock On bros'.
Jeff Beck was a real legend!!!! .....the world of Rock and roll will never be the same NO more then it would if we lost uncle Ted!!!
Ted always says good things about the musicianship of musicians..
Awesome words from the motor city madman. Beck was great. Glad I saw him live. There was no one like him on the axe.
I'm not gonna lie, when I found out Jeff had left earth, I cried like a baby. We lost one of the very few that day. Ted's words are gold here. RIP, Mr. Beck. I hope you're ripping it up in an old Ford hot rod and jamming with the rest of the greats now.
I cried too.I looked at at my wife and said, “I am not alone tonight”
Mr. Ted. You are so very awesome. It's good to see someone who cares. Jeff is a legend and so are you. Thank you very very much. I enjoyed it a lot.
Ted is a Guitar ledgend himself this is great hes paying tribute. To Jeff Beck
Jeff was the best RIP
Jeff Beck was so professional ....incredible ..and very sadly missed...
Jeff was the best Rock 'n' Roll player ever. Hands down.
Jeff Beck, Great words from my American Hero uncle Ted thank you so much for sharing your Knowledge of the world of music. I picked up a Guitar in 1965 and have been on and off playing mostly Because as an Alaska Bush pilot I was traveling all over Alaska but now I am able to Play and your sharing this information is so great I can not tell you how much it is appreciated that.
Let's not 4get Robbie Bachman, the great drummer for BTO, passed last week also...
Oh no I didn't know that..... Very sad. I grew up on B.T.O.
Wow didn't know that, BTO rocked!
Love ya, Ted. Nobody can jump on a piano like you could. You are an American icon who changed the planet. But you couldn't do Beck here and I know you know it. But thanks for the story about his archery, and thanks for all your decades of service to Humanity. I would STILL love to see you LIVE here in beautiful sunny North Idaho.
A great tribute from Uncle Ted!
Thank you, Sir!
Pretty good analysis of Jeff Beck's playing. Ted's done his homework.
Thanks Ted, I'm sure Jeff would be pleased and humbled by the kind words, GOD BLESS 🎶🎵🎶. 🖤👽
Clapton said about Jeff, " He was dedicated to thr guitar, if he wasnt on guitar, he was tuning his cars!!"
Wonderful to have you around Ted, having lived all the rock history that others just read about and parrot. Learned more about Jeff Beck from you than I would from 100 fakers.
Good Health, Working Hard, & Playing Hard - can you think of a better concept? Ted has brought so many wonderful values to our Great Nation.
I was on a date with my then girlfriend that I had taken her to a Yardbirds concert. "Baby Please Don't Go" by the Amboy Dukes came on the radio. She commented that it sounded like my Yardbirds. Bought the album shortly there after 🙂
Your accolades help us, in this dire time.ty.
Beck was the man. Dude was blowing away the young bucks that only emphasized technique. The man walked his own path and we all were lucky to witness genius. Much love to beck and the nuge who payed tribute to him. Rock on!
Best show ever. No words.
Best escape from all this fuckery around us is some Ted some Jeff some Chuck 🎸🎸🎸🎶 🎶 🎶
He was one of one.
I'm just Jammin to the new WEF album, by Clot Schwab, and the Jabbers.
Love you Uncle Ted!!! So glad I found your page brother!
O yes.... nice licks...! Ted Nugent for President...! Album Truth is excellent also highlights another guitarist? Jimmy Page... Beck's Bolero.... rhythm? ... anyway thanks for the Memories...
So good to hear a talented, successful musician praise another one so fulsomely. Hats off to Ted for that.
Ted is the jeff Beck of America... 👍
I was amazed that Jeff was quite the archer!! Love Uncle Ted!!❤️❤️❤️🤟
Thank you, Uncle Ted!
Very tuned in here on this Ted . Good info added .Cool .
Beck totally Rocked & So do You!!🤘🖤🎸👊
Great words and demonstration Ted!
The 2 guitarists I wanted to play drums with the most were Jeff Beck and Ted Nugent. My opportunities are pretty limited when it comes to my favorites.
God bless you guys too we love your and my love Jeff Beck
Ted Nugent is one of the country's leading musicologists of rock and roll.
I'm from Detroit (blow the reveille)!
Some guitarists have a little _'Jimi'_ in them.
Some guitarists have a little _'Eddie'_ in them.
(and so on)
But, ALL OF US (who got past rhythm playin') have a little _'Jeff'_ DNA!
I would humbly suggest those who fell in love with _'Blow By Blow'-era'_ Beck go back & checkout:
*-* The Yardbirds.
*-* The Jeff Beck Group (Mach I).
*-* The Jeff Beck Group (Mach II).
*-* Beck, Bogart, & Appice.
My personal fave is:
*'Rough And Ready'!*
(JBG M2's 1st album)
And, for those only familiar with Ted Nugent from his 1st solo album onward
(or his _'latter-day-comments'_ );
Check out his Amboy Dukes catalog.
('specially The AD's Mach II/early '70s stuff)
Start with:
*'Hibernation'!*
(studio version. NOT 'Dbl. Live Gonzo')
I've always believed that EVERY guitarist who came out of that great Detroit Hard R&R era ('60s/'70s) tried to emulate Jeff Beck.
So, it's only fitting the VERY BEST musician of that era be the ambassador to serve the eulogy.
Peace. Stay Healthy!
- Dave B.
Right On!
Jeff Beck is in all guitar music now.
@@johnnyt.9040 Permanent.
I loved Lady Luck from Tooth Fang & Claw.Later realized Ted sort of rearranged the riff from Jeff's Plynth on the intro!!
It has took me a long time but I can find most lead trails in a song guickly especially with a blues sound. I like to crank it up around 7 am and evenings.
God bless you Ted Nugent I love Jeff Beck like a brother by the sounds of it so did you
Maybe because I love synth, but There and Back is one of my faves of JB. Plus he always played with such greats- Simon Phillips is on that one, and Tony Hymus/Jan Hammer and the great Mo Foster.
And he did some great stuff with Max Middleton. I thought he was gonna keep chugging along forever, like Les Paul.....
Jeff Beck was a Mozart.
Love Jeff Beck! Would be interested in hearing Ted's thoughts on the passing of David Crosby.
Nugent could not stand Crosby
I don't think Ted would slag him, except for politics.
Always appreciate the truth. Thank you sirs.
Saw Jeff Beck at cobo Hall Detroit Michigan
Seen him twice at Pine Nob
Read recently that Beck’s Bolero was one of the songs that inspired Duane Allman to play slide.
Jeff transcended all. Even you Uncle Ted.
I have been to Ted Nugent concerts since 1975 at cobo Hall where he blew the walls out with hibernation people couldn't even breathe!
Was there, heavy energy for sure, Detroit intensity...hot n dangerous days in the D
Frigging wall of Fenders, loudest show by quite a margin.
Jeff was Beauty and Chaos
Great show gentlemen. Jeff Beck was a guitar master indeed. Ted my tinnitus is still going strong. I can't blame you for all of it but I know your infamous 1978 show in New Haven Connecticut have something to do with it. It was worth it Brother and I hope I get to meet you some time. Rock On!
UNCLE TED!!!
Rough and Ready was a stellar album.
High school 72 !
@@jackwezesa1081 yup - bought it in April 1972, senior year…it helped me get through those dreaded last months of high school.
@@sealisa1398 Very cool! I actually have the single Got the feeling / Situation . I think it came out at the end of 71 but didn’t get the album until a little later . Those were the days when they released great 2-sided 45’s ! I love Max Middleton’s piano playing on Goin’ Down from the next album after Rough& Ready also. Take care.
@@jackwezesa1081 Max exuded soul prefer him to Hammer. Playing Guitar Shop now…still teary about Jeff. Cheers
@@sealisa1398 I know. I’ve been spinning Yardbirds , J.Beck Group & David Crosby records continuously. Too bad about Christine McVie also. I played Bare Trees album about 5 times within a couple of days. It ‘s getting to the point in our lives where I wake up in the morning and expect to hear who’s left us. We definitely grew up with great music!
I came close to making best of Jeff Beck a month or two ago(I have done a best of Ted Nugent). I didn't expect him to die . . . I certainly hope to do a best of Jeff Beck soon enough!
Are there any videos of The Amboy Dukes playing at The Grande Ballroom?
I found a channel called (Car Crazy Central) There's a 2 part interview of Jeff Beck talking about and showing his car collection!
Thank you Ted!
Rest in Peace, Jeff Beck🙏🕇
teds expressions are spot on...
Ready Sweaty Teddy.... Nice words, again.
He was one of the best for sure .
Blow by Blow is Great Album
Thanks
Awesome and can't wait to hear your thoughts on the hunting issues
had jeff beck large poster over my bed in 69 we will miss him rip
Nuge is right...any guitar player worth his salt learned SOMETHING from Jeff Beck! Dude was Amazing. 👍🎸❤
Beck was one of the few guys not really influenced by Berry. His main guys were Cliff Gallup, Les Paul, Chet, Scotty Moore Buddy Guy etc
Probably Berry to some degree but not like Richards and Johnny Winter etc...Jeff never covered any Berry or was ever much of a double stop guy. I'd say Les, Gallup, Chet Atkins and Buddy Guy are 4 big influences you hear in his playing
Wowow,,, great , havent heard Jeff's tone copied perfectly like that
Jeff Beck Blow By Blow was one of the first two albums I ever bought. James Gang Rides Again was the other.
Love you Uncle Ted 💯🇺🇸🤙
Now you're finally in the company of a Hall of Fame musician
Jeff Beck you Ted buddy Ed Van Halen Jeff was bold willing to put his music in front of other's even without vocals.
That's Rock n Roll
I just love that "sugary, sweet" tone on "Over Under Sideways Down". Clapton called it 'woman tone"--it sounds like sugar and sweetness to me. Paul Kossoff had that same tone going a lot, as did Gary Rossington
The only Rock guitarist that is worth his salt Is Ted Nugent ...have you ever heard of him ? I have 💛
I've been a fan of Jeff since I bought blow by blow on an orange eight track back in the seventies,
new tune ...can really feel the Nugent-ness sound groovin even without the band !!!
Wow. Four minutes of Nuge sounding like a human being instead of a ranting idiot! Only required the death of one of the most brilliant guitarists of the past 60 years to get him there
Right On , Ted ‼️💔
Wow I thought Ted was dead! Rock on bro.
Thanks Chester!!
